  • This was a 3-day 2-night backpacking trip to the summit of Mt Whitney at 14,505 feet elevation, the highest peak in the contiguous 48 states of the USA. It is a fairly easy trail to follow but the main challenge is the elevation. Sure enough one person in our group of four got altitude sickness. The date of this trip was from September 7th to 9th, 2024.

That was a very enjoyable video. So glad Jason was able to make it back down ok, despite the altitude sickness. It must have been miserable for him for awhile until he recovered.

Another good video. Can't imagine how rough that hike down must have been for Jason. Those pancakes are a great post-hike reward!

Thanks. Altitude sickness makes your experience pretty lousy and that's why Jason said he is one and done for the summit. I was so hungry when I finished I thought for sure I could finish the whole thing, but it turned out I could only finish half 😃

@@davidfeiler1279 Ya. During my first summit attempt I started feeling sick at Trail Camp while setting up camp. Ate some food and hydrated, but decided to pack up and head back down rather than risk getting worse overnight. Possible I could have gotten better after getting some rest. Will be interesting to see if Jason changes his mind after he's back and fully recovered. Funny how we forget the tough parts of the trips when we are back home sitting comfortably on our couches.

@@HuskyMike I think that was a smart move to head back down. The mountain isn't going anywhere. Also, you are so right about how quickly we forget about the tough parts of the trip.😉

Enjoyed the video in its entirety! Really encouraged me to train like I used to and finally make my summit happen.

Thanks. In addition to training, you want to make sure you acclimate properly. We spent the first night at Whitney Portal campground (8,400 feet) and the second night at Trail camp (12,000 feet). You can do it!

Thanks. Yeah I wanted to make sure he got down okay. I was thinking of hitting the SOS button on the Garmin Inreach at one point, but we managed to make it out in the end.

What a great trip, can’t believe we did it. Jason showed some spirit, it could’ve been a different story but he pushed through.
    Until the next one, tagay!

Yeah that was a fun trip. It looks like our training paid off in the end again. Next time I'm sure Jason will join our training 😉 Tagay!

I love the thumbnail. Reminds me of Gate's of The Artic in Alaska.

It's a different looking world up there. I've never been to Alaska, but it's on my list. Will check it out. Thanks.

@@davidfeiler1279 I have a friend who is from Alaska, he was born in the artic circle in fact. What's crazy about him is that he is really resistant to the cold, It'll be 37 degrees and all he has is Jean's and a hoodie.

The views are amazing but the wind on the mic is annoying.
