  • Welcome to the complete video of our 5-day trip in beautiful Puerto Vallarta. This is our first time visiting Mexico. We tried to capture our journey and share the prices, reviews, and experiences of visiting Mexico from Canada.
We were pleasantly surprised by the festival of Our Lady of Guadalupe, it's an annual tradition that takes place from Dec 1 - Dec 12. Everyone is dressed in colourful traditional Mexican wear, Mariachi singing, dancing, and rallies - the whole town is just in a festive mood.
Our main attraction for Day 2 was visiting the Vallarta Botanical Garden. Catch the bus to “El Tuito” at the corner of Carranza and Aguacate streets in the Romantic Zone. This bus leaves every half hour or so. Vallarta Botanical Garden is an amazing place if you are looking for ideas for a Puerto Vallarta day trip - you can hike through the trails, take a swim in the Los Horcones river, and watch so many tropical plants - orchids, cocoa, vanilla, blue agave.
Back in the city, we decided to walk around the romantic zone and check out one of the most popular beaches in Puerto Vallarta - Playa Los Muertos or Los Muerto Beach. If you search for the best beaches in Puerto Vallarta, this one is bound to come up on the list. You can also catch a water taxi or panga to the nicer beaches in the south such as Colomitos, Las Animas, Quimixto, Majahuitas, and Yelapa from the Los Muertos pier.
We finished off the day by having dinner at one of the best restaurants in Puerto Vallarta - Pancho's Takos. If you are out on a Puerto Vallarta food tour or looking up the best tacos in Puerto Vallarta, you cannot miss this place.
Day 3 was all about exploring the romantic zone and the surrounding local neighbourhoods. We decided to check out a few different places for breakfast. We started off with a smoothie bowl from Ono Smoothie Bowl and Cafe then had some really great fish tacos and squid tostada at Marisma Fish Taco and ended with great refreshing drinks (Tejuino and Horchata) from a street food cart.
Our next plan was to check out the Mexican grocery stores in Puerto Vallarta so we ventured off to some local stores near Farmer’s Market Emiliano Zapata. The stores are filled with fresh local produce, spices and dried chillis. We saw both locals and expats doing their grocery runs in the stores. Afterwards, we decided to check the narrow shaded island between the Centro and Romantic Zone - Cuale Island. This little quaint island is home to many cats and of course, the Cuale Island Flea Market is very popular among tourists. You can score some beautiful Mexican art pieces and handicrafts from this local market.
Before our trip, we had been checking out ideas for things to do in Puerto Vallarta or Puerto Vallarta day trips or best excursions in Puerto Vallarta and consistently one idea popped in all the searches. Yelapa and Mahjahuitas Day trip! You can only access these two coves by boat, so you can hire a Panga or Water Taxi from Puerto Vallarta on your own or do a guided tour with one of the reputable tour agencies. We ended up booking a tour with Vallarta Adventures.
The total tour package includes a boat ride to Yelapa and Majahuitas, unlimited drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), breakfast and lunch, snorkelling, a guided tour to the Yelapa Waterfall and through the town of Yelapa and if you are lucky - whale watching in Puerto Vallarta! Not to mention, the ride back to Puerto Vallarta turns into a mini party itself with the music, drinks and occasional dance performance by the crews.
On the last day, we visited the beautiful Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and had some really nice tamales. The streets are so colourful and filled with cool graffiti, it just feels amazing to walk around the romantic zone.
We planned to use only Public Transport in Puerto Vallarta as it allows you to explore the city and the local vibe, on a budget. Puerto Vallarta Bus Routes - visit-vallarta...
Generally, most people search for all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta. However, we booked a hotel as we would be roaming around the city more and eating street foods than staying all day in the resort. We chose to stay in Centro which is also very close to Zona Romantica or the romantic zone.
Puerto Vallarta felt very safe as we wandered the streets at night and the locals were friendly and helpful.

Great video. Well organized and no need for commentary as you added the subtitles and reviews. Well done!
Question: At the 51:04 mark you walk into a craft store. Do you remember where it was located and possibly the name?
    Thanks.

Thank you so much for your generous comment and so glad that you liked the video. This souvenir shop is right beside the Hotel Rio Malecon and the Kiosko beside that, the name of that shop is Marazul. Unfortunately, they don't have a Google map location so I am posting the location pin which is the closest to the shop.

Hi Robert, I hear you! Unfortunately, it's going up everywhere, isn't it? It's getting harder to find affordable and beautiful places to live in.

Thanks a lot, glad you liked the video. Honestly we found PV a lot cheaper than where we live but I agree, there are definitely more affordable places to live in Mexico.
