Here's my input... I was a photoshop user since version-1 in the 80's! recently, I had a stroke. The biggest thing I lost was how to use Photoshop! Everything I did for a living for 35 yrs was gone outta my head. I had taught myself Photoshop the first time. Tried to do it again after the stroke. I was lost and devastated! It was my identity... I was an expert Photoshop Specialist! Now my head doesn't work like it used to. But this, I totally understood the whole way! I am so excited I might have a chance to do what I loved to do again. I am so grateful for seeing this video. Peace to you!

Greatest part is that even if you lost your Photoshop skills you retained the knowledge and feeling for the art. You just lost the way to transform your knowledge. And than regained it in a different software.

Grabbed Luminar AI the day it came out and I love it. Been a professional portrait photographer for 15 years now, this saves a TON of time. What would normally take 20-30 dodging, burning, masking, layering etc...eyes and skin takes about 5 minutes now. Especially if you shoot weddings or groups, it will apply the edits to everyone in the photo if you want it to, crazy. The templates and LUTs are also really good starting points for more creative ideas and you can apply all the edits to multiple photos with one click. You can make quick fixes or really get in there and fully edit a photo too, your choice. Also, unlike Adobe products, this is a one time buy and its not very expensive at all. Best $79 Ive spent in a long time.
Haha Luminar AI is way worse than a true software for portrait Like "Portrait Pro 21". Luminar AI is for casual, not pro.
Hi Michael, I wish I could share your enthusiasm. After purchasing this product (I am a Windows user) I learned that there is no undo functionality for key editing features like erase and clone stamp. To make matters, this issue has existed with there other products for quite sometime, and there is no timeline for a fix. I don't think Windows users should purchase this product when it is not full featured (crippled). Once they fix it, then I would be happy to recommend.
@@jamesskintauy6773 ummmm, go to history and go back to the step before you used the erase or clone stamp tool. Maybe learn how to use the software before bashing it?

Photographer or not, this worries me. Not because of the changes people can so easily make to photos with Luminar 4, but because "fake" images will become so normal and people will sell them as the real deal. Portraying a lie is common enough in social media and by making the pictures more fake more often, people will again be comparing themselves and their photos to fakes, which doesn't end well in my opinion.
Actually nobody cares, what is important is the end result whether someone likes the photo or not. Nobody cares about your editing skills or how long did you edited the photo sweating tears in Lightroom for hours while someone just clicked once in Luminar. You won't get any extra credit for that. And when it comes to fake photos....nobody cares about that nowadays either. Just look at Peter Lik for example. Richest guy in the photography business, selling prints for millions. And mostly composites ! Look at his Moonlit Dreams photo.
It's like saying DJing is not what it used to be in the 90s and I agree it is not. But nowadays you don't need to have skills with old big Vinyls. Technology made everything easier , so even you can become a DJ. What the most important is in the end , whether people will like your music ( and photos ) or not and not how it's made. This is not a competition where you need to fight for respect in areas which don't matter. It is 2021 almost... just get on with it. We evolve.

You're right. My feeling is that AI is useful but it has to be combined with natural intelligence or photographs will look cartoonish and you won't be happy with the final photograph.

I really need someone to make this video with vlog-style face screenshots and/or mediocre photos. I bought it after Colin and Samir's video but I'm just not getting the "Scroll stopping" results they were. I don't feel intimidated by Lightroom or Photoshop, I just don't want to be tied to a monthly payment.

I get it if you in the past purchased PS but honestly for both photoshop and Lightroom I pay 10(10.99?) a month it’s low enough I go through long periods of forgetting I even pay for it.
@@ghostrider2214 That is still 120 $ per year and 240 $ for two years which is a lot and you could have spend it elsewhere, Netflix or HBO GO maybe ? Or whatever. I have the classic Lightroom 7.3 which reads Sony 7 III raw files and I am happy with the way it is. I don't think the new extra features would be worth the money. I am glad I was lucky to get it before they went with a subscription option. Today I would not opt in for Adobe. I am not interested to pay monthly for it.

So glad to see Peter finally do a video on Luminar. I discovered it several months ago when I got into photography because it seemed to have so much less of a learning curve than Lightroom. As a total amateur just looking to up my photo game for Instagram it has been a total gem. A lot of the same features as Lightroom so I'm able to use what I learn from Peter within Luminar which is nice.
I love having these kinds of conversations! I'm honestly a huge fan of AI editing and I think we're going to see a lot of programs in the future geared towards making sophisticated edits with minimal effort. That being said, I don't think AI is going to replace artists simply because it needs photographers with a good eye for composition to make the image actually look good.
I do photography as a hobby so for me this is amazing, I never really edited my pictures outside of some slight color adjustments and that was because I didn't want to put in so much time and effort for every picture I wanted to post, mainly since I'm not even getting paid for it. Honestly I've actually stopped doing photography for months now and part of the reason was because editing was always a wall for me, but now I feel like I can get back into it.

I actually use this in conjunction w/ Lightroom to speed up my overall workflow. I do all of my color correction in LR and then do the skin/eyes/teeth w/ luminar. I can finish edits in a fraction of the time now, and my clients don't know the difference.
Software to make me lazy with video editing but Peter's energy is enough to pull me out of sleep 😂😂

You would like Luminar 4 even more. Luminar AI has less features than. As a long time Luminar user I'm really don't like this AI version.
I definitely like having it because when traveling (once that is a thing again) and you have to work with whatever you get when you are getting to a location (for example blank skies). Having this tool to replace the sky to create an epic photo out of a mediocre one is awesome. Of course that’s just my opinion. And there is something to be said about not always is a blank sky about sky. It always depends on what you are going for. 🤙🏻

I’m really enjoying the diversity in your sets as of late.
This video has such a clean and bright feel with the white background and the last two minute Tuesday video had a dark “in the lab” type of feel with the podcast style set up and the black shelves.
The change and contrast adds another interest depth to your videos, definitely appreciate the extra effort Pete!
If this is something you're still using, I would love to see an update video to see how you were ultimately able to incorporate this into your workflow.

This AI version is a big step down from the previous version Luminar 4. They stripped out a lot of features. The presets that come loaded into the program aren't that good. When you create your own presets (or presets that were imported from previous versions) are just thrown into a list at random. No organization whatsoever. This wasn't the case with previous versions. As a long time user of Luminar I'd do some research before purchasing Skykum products. They don't have the greatest of reputations. Lots of unkept promises. Bug and issues in in Luminar 3 will be fixed in Luminar 4. Bugs and issues of 4 will be fixed with AI. Bugs and issues with AI will be fixed with ???. If you have a PC don't purchase a skykum product. They are virtually unusable. They run decent enough of Macs however. I really love Luminar 4. It's way better than Lightroom IMO (on a Mac). I'm summer disappointed with this AI version.

Tbh I love how the AI can fix some of problems like how editing can sometimes be time consuming so possibly in pinch it could definitely do the job! But also there could be a danger delving in too deep into changing the image it could look artificial but if your creative with it and it comes out great, that’s awesome! There’s beauty in everything with some thought and effort into it!

I don’t think this is necessarily a reflection of where photography and editing is going (considering all the options to make it more “fake”) but I think it could be a really powerful tool to help speed up the process of editing and getting really nice looking photos really fast! "Nothing can steal ur creativity", well that's great man, let me pay my bills with my "inner creativity" when a real estate agent and other job positions are disappearing from the market for photographers/videographers because every joe blow on the block can click a talentless button and get the job done for free. Also, I'm 100% not for suppression of technology like many are "to save our jerbs from the robots", but I am against the idea of money and the forced slavery we are dealing with today. The issue here is that technology is getting way ahead of our human evolution, it's why 90% of the population lives pay check to pay check and the wealthy keep and own literally everything from generations of wealth. In short, the privileged were there first in the gold rush and now own stocks/property in every crevice of the country, while they fight newer generations tooth and nail just to keep the archaic and unjust systems alive. What we will see in our lifetime is an implosion of capitalism and massive market destabilization if we don't wake up and realize the insanity/chaos we are allowing to exist. Long story short, AI will replace MOST jobs naturally, and it's not fair in a survival based, archaic, Neanderthal system to tell people to figure something else out or quit what they love to go make money elsewhere. I have been wanting this software because I just did a photo shoot where I flew into a city for a day that had overcast sky. I needed to do sky replacement. This is GREAT! I knew about this software few weeks ago. Thanks Peter for sharing this video.
I've been using Luminar 4 for over a year now and I gotta say it's great - I did my research to find a budget non-destructive photo-editor with the features I wanted, plus the fact that it had some photoshop elements thrown in like erase and clone stamp. It's a one-time purchase which is what I wanted. But I gotta say that it doesn't always work well with a MacBook (occasionally crashes), and that there are a few features I miss that I know Lightroom would have. But it saves my work and does the job. Nice video Pete!

Interesting program, especially liked the fact that you can insert different backgrounds. Now download, practice
