  • 13 vw Passat TDI engine, customer complaint is a check engine light, veh has multiple faults stored for nox sensor, the nox sensor is used for the diesel exhaust after treatment, nox sensor looks like an o2 sensor but it detects nox and reports to the ecm, the ecm takes this input and varies how much adblue or urea is injected into the exhaust to correct this nox and turn it into nitrogen and water (chemical reaction), one quick note is always check the basics! I hope you enjoy this video and thanks for watching.

Hey guys and girls, guess what!?
I just found out from an acquaintance that works at a Volkswagen dealership[USA] a majority of these TDIs in question have an extended warranty with anything related to the exhaust system. even if you are not the original owner, this warranty still applies to you. Parts and labor is 100% covered. As long as you have never modified ANYTHING on the car, you have a check engine light + DTCs, you should be good to go. just call the dealership and give them your VIN number and describe the problem you're having. They will be able to find out if your car qualifies for the extended warranty. Best of luck 👍

This is not covered under warranty. There is a tsb about this. It tells you to check the connector for corrosion and replace as necessary. In this case a new NOx sensor and harness.

Thank you for having this video. I spent more than 30 minutes and I could not find it. My car has 69,000 miles and nine years, so I believe it still under warranty.

What a place to put these components. And here we have reason #456 why we will be turning our '13 Passat TDI in for the buyback next year......

Good one Tom, don't know how I missed this one, thought I'd seen all your videos, but we have lots of these WV and Audi's in the UK, infact I think the UK is the biggest market for VW, in Europe, really good Video cheers thanks again Tom

Yes, but how to remove all that emissions crap and get it back to just being a diesel engine?
Can I just disconnect the sensor from the exhaust and plug the hole?

Hi like a month ago I got one of my customers car a Passat TDI 2013 with a defective NOX sensor and there was a permanent fault and there was a warning that the car would not start in 300 km's and this car had a intermittent fautes for this sensor for months and we were hoping that it would last until the buyback but it failed and it's pretty expensive at around $ 900 but the car was outside the VW warranty but surprisingly the exhaust valve and AD blue tank heater never failed witch I heard of was common. I like that the new diesel are clean but they are expensive to repair when they get older like all the extra equipment needed to pass emissions parts like EGT sensor,NOX sensor, particles filter, egr valves coolers, urea tank lines and injector and heater and fluid level sensor etc. .....

This one also had a no start warning I forgot to mention. Yes the valve and tank heaters are very common.

Good video..can't believe how rusty the car underside is, I have a 2012 and live in the land of road salt (toronto) and the underside looks new, despite the almost 200,000KM.

Don't understand. Your engine code says Bank 1 Sensor 1. I thought sensor 1 was O2 sensor located at DPF, not NOx in the pipe. Please explain.

Can you help? I have a P2201 and a P220a code.I have 13v at the power across ground. Bad sensor the issue then? Can I test the can wires for continuity anywhere? Where does this connector go in the engine bay? I bought a box sensor with part number 8K0907807E installed it and it worked for about 10 miles then light again. I ended up buying a new part number 03L907807AF and will try that this weekend. Any thoughts? 2013 Passat tdi

Hello sir , is it the same thing for P2201 code , and for your experience how much it cost a Nox sensor plz , hope you'll replay

DPF's (and generally speaking all the emissions systems crap) will kill the Diesel engine (except the commercial vehicles) in the next years. These systems negate the whole advantage that diesels had, namely reliability, simplicity and low cost of ownership.

I've got a P20EE code and my location VAG specialist is quoting £1300.00 for get the issue sorted.
is this something that u can do if u have a jack and tools at home, I've changed a O2 sensor before.

Mine did not restart so I hauled it to the dealership and they told me this sensor was bad and was corded and does not fall under the recall warranty. They worked on it 9k miles ago and said they replaced the def heater, now they want to charge me over $900 to replace this. If I replace it will the car crank back up without a computer to reset something?

I cant say if that's what you need, but what you need to do is check wiring to the NOx module
