  • What Do We Think?
One of the things that really stands out to us is the way the two channels are voiced. Channel 1 is remarkably lively and chimey, absolutely perfect for your cleans. Channel 2 is notably thicker and throatier, giving wonderful meat and body to your overdrives. Independent master volumes for each channel make it effortless to balance the levels of your clean and dirt tones.
The 2-band EQ and Cut knob are highly interactive. Dialing back the treble not only rolls back high frequencies, but also boosts a midrange that rises richly in the mix. Bumping the treble pulls the opposite direction on the midrange to form a brisk scoop in the EQ. And the Cut knob provides powerful control over the taper of your top end. You can conjure everything from warm and rounded with the Cut knob turned towards the right, to a Vox-like sheen when rolled in the opposite direction.
The Black Cat ships with a 2-button footswitch for channel switching and for engaging its deep, well-versed tremolo. The effect can go from subtle to staccato at either end of the Intensity spectrum. The reverb is lush, with a decay that hangs ethereally at the upper reaches of the knob and yet still avoids being overpowering. A padded slip cover is also included with the amp.

Hi Mike, I am so sorry that I am just now seeing this. The Jet Black extends to a little higher gain ranges than the Black Cat, but I would not consider either of them to be high gain amps. The Jet Black is twice the wattage so you'll have more clean headroom if going for buttery Fender-like cleans, and adds a mid control to the EQ section in place of a cut control. But much of the DNA remains the same under the hood. I tend to find the Jet Black to be brighter and glassier with all EQ controls at noon on both amps, but both can easily be EQ'd to taste. The Black Cat has a very interactive EQ that bumps the mids as you turn down the trebles, and scoops as you turn them up.

Our Mike, who shot the video, is touring with a Jet Black right now. We should have a video demo of that one going up soon too!

Hey Mike did you keep the amp, or send it back. If you sent if back why? I have a Cub that I really like.

Hi there, Mike did this video demo for us using one we had in stock. Do you have the new version of the Cub or a prior version? If you are looking for a 2-channel amp, I find the Black Cat to be a lot easier to dial in because you have separate volume (preamp gain) and master volume controls over each channel. The Cub has an overdrive switch which extends its flexibility well beyond that of a typical 1-channel amp, but the amount of "bump" you get is very dependent on where you are running your preamp control. With the Cub, you can do some tap dancing between two master volume settings to even things out but it's a little more involved than dialing the Black Cat, in my opinion.

I have the most recent 30w Cub and I really like It. I'm on my Winter break from my band and go back in April so I haven't used it live. One thing I noticed is that when switching masters with the foot switch theirs an audible pop in the speaker. I contacted Bad Cat and was shocked when the response from John was. I'm to busy to help you, reach back out in a month. I've never in 4 decades of playing professionally and buying gear been treated that way. I really like the amp but might just sell it out of principal. he could have easily said I'll send you another foot Switch to try and see if that's the culprit and just send him one back, but no. It was bad treatment. If the FS had soft silent switches it would probably avoid that issue.@@GuitarsToBePlayed
