Bro, had my BMC5 for almost 2yrs and its always been very finicky and overflowing. I just tried your method and lifted it up until the right level occurred. I was a 1/8 needed. I tried it and BOOM!! It worked!!! Perfectly!! Thank you!!
Yes i set up 65g with 20g sump and my curve 5 making same problem. I end up adding 3 1/2 high 2 in PVC pipes on each legs now it's skimming much better .. thx for the tips.. 🙏
The adjustable knob does nothing with the air. That small tube next to it is for the air. But it is Not adjustable. That is just there as a silencer. The knob controls the water flow Exiting the skimmer column. And that is how you control the hight of where your bubbles are.

I would think you want to get a height that works with the air set at the middle, then you can adjust the air up or down

That sucker is going crazy. I know that every time I totally clean the skimmer it takes like 2 weeks to break in again which is annoying
Billy Pipes yea I got it finally deep skimming again thank god . Raising it was the solution though ! First pic on this video you see how it looks when it is doing a heavier green skim which is doing again now 👍🏻
Any under water Venturi will eventually clog . This is where the it line connects too .
Have u lowered your skimmer? What is the current depth of water it’s in?

Hi the max produced more wet skimming.. rather put it in min to starting and then adjust it ...
Lixi Lineas I think it’s the opposite . Max should be the most amount of restricted airflow . Min should be the least causing it to skim more
have the new a5 skimmer from bm and it's even worse. says 8 inches. I left it at 8 inches and put a air valve in the air line to control amount of air. That max 3 2 1 is the flow out of the skimmer. Not air related.
Cole Barone my skimmer is doing great now , just give it time ! If it helps I would raise it as high as u can without it overflowing , then gradually overtime lower it . Good luck !
Cole Barone did u raise your a5? I have problem with my skimmer, all the gunk is collecting around the neck
Hi! I got the Curve 5 like 1.5 weeks ago and it's still overflowing like crazy. I did the lifting up thing like you said in the video but it's still overflowing with the minimum amount of water in there to allow it to work. Do I just have to wait it out longer for it to break in? :L
Oh yeah, my tanks empty too. It just has sea water, sand and artificial live rock in it and I'm waiting for it to cycle.
Raise is up with your hand with the lid off , and see where it stops overflowing . Once u find out where it stops no matter how high then that’s where you will put the egg crates too . Put it on 3 . If it’s a new skimmer give it time . Hopefully this helps .

Yeah, even when the water levels just above the pump it's still overflowing on the max setting. :(
I'm doing a fishless cycle and when I shake the bag of fish food that's in my sump which is decaying (and it lets out small particles of fish food into my sump)- it stops overflowing? Is that normal?
Henry since the take is so New it’s prob not that dirty honestly. I would give it time, another week

I have the curve 9 and I am getting way to much air bubbles in my sump. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Etech Etecho hey i just recently switched back to the curve 5. In the beginning I had a few but realized my water was to low in my sump . Try raising the water as that worked for me . Best of luck

Hey, not to be a smart ass but isn’t what you did common sense. I figured that out two months into getting my first Protein skimmer. I can’t believe that there’s people out there that have tanks that can’t figure out how to properly run a skimmer…
Taking 2 months to figure something out doesn’t sound like common sense lol

And just a tweak the skimmer sometimes it takes more than two months
Why you just didn't add a air valve o adjust the air flow just that simple want look so ugly
leonard edwards the thing in the left is the air valve which adjusts the air flow , and this video is old mine is fine now
your fellow reefer what did you do if you don't mind me asking because I tried lifting I and cleaning each part but it still didn't do anything. So I cut the hose and put an valve on it
your fellow reefer I have a octopus 202 plus which I adjusted the valve even to the lowest setting but it didn't work.
Dont buy this skimmer. I have same issue and mine just blasts microbubbles everywhere
its totally built wrong
send it back or modify it... stop complaining
Hey Dan ! It turns out it was just new in sump and had to adjust and settle in, had this for a few years now not complaining at all ! Thanks though !
