I just have these thoughts that heir is the most polite youtuber when he explains things so patiently at the start of each of his videos. I wonder how he can be so polite, but then I realize heir's viewers/community is so good that he doesn't even get troll dislikes on his videos, its fucking amazing when you think about it! Props to everyone
YO HEIR!!.. A few roman tips( I know that i posted this in part 1, but im just trying to make sure that you actually get to read it:p).. Cities like Constantinople, Alexandria, Ailia Capitolina (modern day Jerusalem), Antioch, etc.. They have that Little golden cross next to their name called 'Pentarchy See'.. These cities are special to christians( Latin, Greek and Arian), meaning that non-christians cant build religious Buildings there and christian factions can build a special branch known as 'Patriarchal' churches, which are better than regular churches.. so if you have a city with the pentarchy see in your province, then that specific city will be ideal for Building your religious Buildings in.. Also, there are a couple of Technologies in your tech tree which, once researched will disable some of your starting Technologies.. so for example, if you plan on Building a level 4 library or amphitheatre, then you have to finish Building them before you research those new Technologies that disables them, mouse over them to read which ones have these effects.. Lastly, it would be a good idea to put some new people in as governeurs, and then adopt them into your Family, i think it costs 50 influence, but its a good way to kickstart your influence generating and i think both your Family members start with enough points to make an adoption, meaning you can have all for governeurs in your family, making politics a lot easier to control from the beginning.. you should also try to find a wife for your Brother, perhaps the western romans have a daughter available, or maybe one of your two puppet states have one:)..
No need to get so political with your channel man. Just do you. If anything the 5 mins of redundancy every episode is boring. People are gonna support you no matter what because you're putting out good content. That's just my 5 cents.
I think the blood is actually much more realistic in Attila. While it looks gruesome in Rome 2 and Shogun 2, and is more visible from the player camera, in real life it's a lot different. Soldiers would usually be wearing numerous layers of clothing in addition to their armor to provide as much protection as possible. One side effect was that you wouldn't get spurts of blood spattering all over the place because it would be stopped by clothing and armor. Sure, the ground would get bloody after enough fighting, but any soldier with adequate protection won't be easily decapitated by any sort of slash in combat, especially with a one-handed weapon. Most of the blood would end up on the ground, not spattered all over one's armor.
That is true. But tw attila was meant to be gruesome and apocalyptic, and while a less spectacular version might be more better for rome 2, attila is supposed to go all the way
I'm glad to see you are continuing this campaign heir. It seems in most total war campaigns, the goal is to build yourself up from almost nothing. This one is refreshing in the fact that you start somewhat big and have to keep yourself from collapsing. Keep up the great videos :)
Wow, you are putting out a lot of stuff for us. Good luck keeping up with all of this. Also love seeing you are doing videos of all the total wars games from Rome 1. Great seeing some classic Total war gameplay.
damn dude this is one epic campaign. will definitely be following this one alongside the medieval 2 total war france campaign - love em both immensely :)
I did about 78 turns as the WRE so here is some advice for starting a campaign as the Romans. Consolidate your forces into 3 or 4 powerful stacks, leave a couple small stacks in provinces not threatened by hordes. I left one small 8 unit stack in carthage just to put down revolts, while all my other armies were on my northern border. Spend money in provinces that are already yielding you a lot of cash, don't waste money on areas that aren't necessary or that you might have to yield to the enemy temporarily. I spent nothing on Britannia and abandoned it in 408. If you need to just offer hordes a small area of land to get them to stop raiding, I gave the suabians Colonia aggripina and I abandoned illiria to the goths. Watch your politics, I made the mistake of not watching and I ended up with a major rebellion by a large army.
Heir! Dude, when the enemy army splits up to attack the settlement in 2 places is the perfect opportunity to destroy them. Divide and conquer right? Well they've divided for you, so all you have to do is rush them with your infantry advantage and crush their two smaller forces. You might not be able to take out the entirety of both armies but you will severely damage them instead of letting them take the initiative and attacking you, force them to react.
If you need any ideas I've done a ERE campaign and currently 140 turns in. War with Sassanids can be stopped or it will start late on, 50+turns in but regardless have two 10 stacks patrolling the eastern border. Always be on the defensive until you break a two stack siege and chase them out. Take an army from Egypt to Greece as support and subjugate Dacia who hate the Huns anyway. Always try and keep some equites in armies and I usually try to build one of each military in Egypt Antioch and Constantinople and just force march across Turkey and across once the northern hoards are dealt with
Love your videos Heir! Always have! You should try defending with you garrison from time to time just to make things more challenging :D there's always a chance at winning when defending with a garrison against a full horde stack. Hold at a chokepoint and try to kill enemy General ASAP. Roman units are good at holding spots due to their tankiness.
Heir, really enjoy your videos, keep it up. Whether you play the long vids or go back to the 20-30 min vids I will be a follower. Subscriber for about 3.5 years now and just wanted to tell you that I really appreciate all the effort you put into your videos. Good job Heir and War Eagle.
Hey Heir I would like to recommend you something: When defending a town try to block the entrances at the tower in testudo thus ensuring that the towers get max time fire arrows into the enemy. They really get you most kills by far. Thats how I do it in my ERE-campaign. and you can actually make the WRE your puppet, but in my campaign it didnt turn out beneficial because later they turned against me ( not joining my war) and I lost more than 1500 trade revenue!!! looking forward to learn more from your campaign. Your vids are pretty asome and I like the new variaty of campaigns from different games too! Attila has still to be fixed at some point...
Heir, keep it up with Fall of Samurai and ERE, I like them better than Ebdanians. And yeah, I totally agree that you should play WRE and Huns last so you can max out the epicness.
HeirofCarthage Heir, I've got a question! What specs do you believe are the ones needed to play the game in the best and still not too expensive way? I'm thinking about buying a new computer and I'd like to read your opinion. Thank you!
Hey Heir, instead of attacking the Ostrigoths why not try to give them one of your small settlements in Dacia and turn them into a client state? Then they could begin to expand north and your borders there would be secure while you focus on other territories as well as economic growth.
You can recruit some priests. They will very helpful for public order. I think you can recruit with to three in the same time because you start as a big empire. Good job though. Looking forward for the 3d part.
heir first off i love your videos keep it up, second i did a ERE campaign on very hard and am doing very well this was due to the fact that every turn i gave a tribute (in gift form) every turn to the sassanids and eventually got a trade agreement and an alliance if you can acomplish that then everything becomes much easier since you have one less front to fight. this may not work for you since the ai in diplomacy is inconsistant.
I believe Equites Dalmatae are built through the military chain's stables. It also seems that Macedonica, Asia, Bithynia and Cappadocia are losing public order by as much as -5/turn. for the battlefield, you could use your Germanic Levy to eay any yolo!charges, then use your Legios' plumbata to rek their day. GL also have the one javelin with +15 vs large.
Loving the video's. Wondering, what video settings you use? i ran rome 2 fine, and this seems to run ok, but when fire arrows etc are in use FPS in too low if zoomed in?
this is probably out of date by far (4 months since it was uploaded) but Scout Equites are one of my favourite early game units, ive just started an ERE campaign and have played quite a few of the other factions. i have been pleasantly surprised by how valuable they have been to me way more so than the germanic light cav.
wouldnt a 1hr campaign + online battle video a day be a bit much for you heir? Plenty of content is always good, but committing to such a harsh schedule i imagine would be draining...i love TW as much as the next guy but I cant play so much TW after a week or 2 :O
I wish that units that had shattered would fight to the death rather than attempt to flee when surrounded by enemy troops. I believe that was a feature in Rome 1, right?
You definitely need to testudo at towers so they can do massive damage to the enemy. The longer the tower lasts, the more damage. ERE on legendary and you can beat 3,000 stack with about 1,000 or less. You can really do damage to attacking nomadic and eastern armies. Even if you don't always win. Best of Luck in Eastern Rome
I just finished my east roman campaign with finishing off every single faction and getting every victory there was. Right off the back I ended my alliance with west roman empire to prevent going to war with misc factions that would send agents over to my land and cause mayhem and mainly just defended my settlements.
What you could've done here was put your spearmen up at the front to soak up the charge and allow your infantry to throw their darts before committing them in melee.
Since a lot of the hordes were looking for new places to live after being chased from their homelands by the Huns, you should be able to invite them into your faction and basically absorb them along with their troops and tech.
Steel4 It isn't in the game, but it should be. As a function it would just let you "adopt" them into your faction. Watch Terry Jones Barbarians, it may be here on youtube, specifically the part about the vandals and huns to get a better idea of the real history.
Ryan Murphy I think the Western and Eastern Roman Empires can "Levy troops from friendly hordes". Which would be more useful if practically every faction didn't hate them.
The first fight u fought i won, same position, but I blocked it off better with only 2 units, then after 10 min just send in everything and fast forward until win (with cav attacking in their backs)
I got lucky with my ERE campaign the Sassanid king of kings was actualy fond of eastern romans and traded with me and all that jazz. Bought me enough time to Get the military power to fight them when he died and his son was a bastard ;c
Tbh, Heir, the WRE is only hard if you keep all your provinces from the beginning, which is impossible. If you raze all of Brittania, Gaul, and the Balkans, it is a lot easier. Just keep Hispania, Italia, Magna Graecia, and Corsica en Sardinia.
Next time put your spearmen in defensive testudo and the cohors in wall shooting dards.....once finished put them down and stablish a defensive formation behind spearmen....use the unit wisely next time....
To be fair, they spread culture and advanced technology across Europe. Not saying they were perfect (they were a brutal dictatorship, after all), but they were essential to the development of Western Civilization. Of course, if you're joking, sorry about the misunderstanding. XD
Heir, I would prefer that you also alternate hour and half an hour episodes throughout the weekdays. For me hour long episodes are too long to watch. I really like the Sunday-Special day idea btw.
I know this is coming a bit late but instead of turning battle difficulty to normal you qccidentaly turned campaign difficulty to normal and battle difficulty is on very hard
Harris Turner and he never ask for subs or like or comment at the end of his video!
Truth be told.
I agree, maturity seems to pay off.
Harris Turner I guess not many idiots are into strategic games ahah much love for everyone!
Harris Turner I IZ MUCH TRULL, VERI MUCHO TROLLO. Jk but seriously. Yeah Heir's Community is so good.

Second that
I third that
Your smart
Jackson Bowen yes he is
Agreed!
Awsome! Love watching these long campaign videos on my tv , make me really feel relax, especially the shogun2 campaign!
I can't watch on my tv because the campaign map is too small
Jackson Bowen as in the resolution? Its quite clear on mine
no the screen is to small and far away i cant see a thing
Mory Didn't think of this O.o I think I might have to hook up my laptop to the TV now
Finally long episodes. I watch these at the end of a long day and it's a great way to unwind. Thanks patchy!
Army wiped out Heir be like "Yay i don't have to pay their wages any more! :D"
love the FoTS game heir. you've inspired me to get Rome 2 and Attila and now FoTS. thank you for introducing me to these games
Heir is a great UA-camr because he goes of on these hilarious tangents, "Mosh Pit" and "Patchy" are great examples!
Just started this series. Love it. Pure entertainment and better than the stuff I pay money for,
like movies and cable. Great job! Keep it up!

Uuuugh TLDR: this is a game! Blood needs to be seen!!!!
That is true. But tw attila was meant to be gruesome and apocalyptic, and while a less spectacular version might be more better for rome 2, attila is supposed to go all the way

Loved this part, you are doing things pretty logically. Byzantium will survive!
Wow, you are putting out a lot of stuff for us. Good luck keeping up with all of this. Also love seeing you are doing videos of all the total wars games from Rome 1. Great seeing some classic Total war gameplay.
Probably the best start for the ERE campaign that I have seen on youtube! Good job man! Greetings from an italian sub!
damn dude this is one epic campaign. will definitely be following this one alongside the medieval 2 total war france campaign - love em both immensely :)
Excellent campaign choices now Heir! Brilliant content as ever. Keep it coming.

From now on you should say "what the (insert faction you're playing) crap is going on?". I love it.
Heir you got me addicted to this campaign xD I was hesitant at first then I gave it a chance and now I need more xD
I'm really liking this campaign Heir, keep it up!
I used to be in a gothic war band. Played bass.
Love your videos Heir! Always have! thanks for putting in all the massive amounts of time heir!
The Germanic Barbarian encampments looked a bit like mushrooms sprouting up from the earth. lol

Oh man Heir tripping over those "rock traps" cracked me up.
Love your let's play videos!
Hey Heir!!!!
You can let your faction leader which is the emperor command the army so he can gain some influence for your faction
you are right
But you have the chance of him dying
Heir, keep it up with Fall of Samurai and ERE, I like them better than Ebdanians. And yeah, I totally agree that you should play WRE and Huns last so you can max out the epicness.
What ever you do, just do loads of it! We like campaign that progresses fast!
Really enjoying this campaign! Keep trying to get the West Romans as puppets! Haha!
That first battle was like a Late Classical Charge of the Light Brigade.
HeirofCarthage Heir, I've got a question! What specs do you believe are the ones needed to play the game in the best and still not too expensive way? I'm thinking about buying a new computer and I'd like to read your opinion. Thank you!
Great campaign choice! There aren't many (if any) ERE campaigns on good youtube channels.
Great video heir please keep them coming!
Hey Heir, instead of attacking the Ostrigoths why not try to give them one of your small settlements in Dacia and turn them into a client state? Then they could begin to expand north and your borders there would be secure while you focus on other territories as well as economic growth.

Time zones for streaming? what time zone are you in? Greenwich like in England? so 7 in the morning EST?
heir first off i love your videos keep it up, second i did a ERE campaign on very hard and am doing very well this was due to the fact that every turn i gave a tribute (in gift form) every turn to the sassanids and eventually got a trade agreement and an alliance if you can acomplish that then everything becomes much easier since you have one less front to fight. this may not work for you since the ai in diplomacy is inconsistant.

Heir i am one of these people who just like your style. Whatever you play its ok with me. Thanks.
More Shogun! But we love you regardless Heir. I have liked both the Shogun Vids. More sexy gunpowder carnage.
Loving the video's. Wondering, what video settings you use? i ran rome 2 fine, and this seems to run ok, but when fire arrows etc are in use FPS in too low if zoomed in?
Where do you live stream Heir? and what is your time zone. Would love to watch the live streams when they happen if i can
Shoulda checked which generals were better before disbanding
I was gonna say the same thing lol
+Godly Gohan can't learn if you don't fuck up. So the more mistakes he makes the more he has to improve on.
I like to make excuses for you tube streams as well.

I want to ask you what computer do you have to handle the game graphics so well
I wish that units that had shattered would fight to the death rather than attempt to flee when surrounded by enemy troops. I believe that was a feature in Rome 1, right?
Is Homeworld on hold, or perhaps part of Sunday's special feature?
I will be continuing it as I get a chance. I didnt get time to record ant this last two weeks. Should get some recorded this weekend.
HeirofCarthage try to make it a hour long or two missions in one video👍👍👍
Romans can levy troops from passing by, non-hostile hordes. I've seen WRE armies with plenty of hunnic units in it once.
What do you stream on UA-cam or Twitch???
You definitely need to testudo at towers so they can do massive damage to the enemy. The longer the tower lasts, the more damage. ERE on legendary and you can beat 3,000 stack with about 1,000 or less. You can really do damage to attacking nomadic and eastern armies. Even if you don't always win. Best of Luck in Eastern Rome
Make sure to use archer ability. They don't have as good damage, but that ability gives bonus 50% damage. Just hoping to help you with some tips.
Oh and it sounds stupid, but offer to make WRE to be your puppet state. They offer massive income and they usually accept.
I just finished my east roman campaign with finishing off every single faction and getting every victory there was. Right off the back I ended my alliance with west roman empire to prevent going to war with misc factions that would send agents over to my land and cause mayhem and mainly just defended my settlements.
Great Heir, after this you can kill the Ostrogoths with their own levied units! Oh the irony...
What you could've done here was put your spearmen up at the front to soak up the charge and allow your infantry to throw their darts before committing them in melee.
Extremely cost effective scout equites.
Since a lot of the hordes were looking for new places to live after being chased from their homelands by the Huns, you should be able to invite them into your faction and basically absorb them along with their troops and tech.
+Ryan “Acidhedz” Murphy How exactly does that work?
Steel4 It isn't in the game, but it should be. As a function it would just let you "adopt" them into your faction.
Watch Terry Jones Barbarians, it may be here on youtube, specifically the part about the vandals and huns to get a better idea of the real history.
Ryan Murphy I think the Western and Eastern Roman Empires can "Levy troops from friendly hordes". Which would be more useful if practically every faction didn't hate them.
The medieval 2 campaign is alive! Bleeding a lot and struggling to breathe, but alive
Like the new campaign format. 30 mins for TW, especially with the Roman factions.
Rear charging barbarians usually causes a rout especially with their general dead.
A vs campaign with WRE and someone else playing Huns, would be awesome.
Are you going to finish the Homeworld campaign?
This lets play really wants me to play as the Romans
love the long videos :)
I think the Chinese mod will be a good episode on Sunday. New units, also I think new buildings if I'm not mistaken
The first fight u fought i won, same position, but I blocked it off better with only 2 units, then after 10 min just send in everything and fast forward until win (with cav attacking in their backs)
+viikmaqic You should not have pulled them off is what I mean, that caused a big wavering on your troops
I got lucky with my ERE campaign the Sassanid king of kings was actualy fond of eastern romans and traded with me and all that jazz. Bought me enough time to Get the military power to fight them when he died and his son was a bastard ;c
Thanks heir for the ere campaign
Tbh, Heir, the WRE is only hard if you keep all your provinces from the beginning, which is impossible. If you raze all of Brittania, Gaul, and the Balkans, it is a lot easier. Just keep Hispania, Italia, Magna Graecia, and Corsica en Sardinia.
So lucky the Goths didnt go for Trimontium and its gold like they usually do :)
Arent Ostrogoths your client state? how otherwise could you levy their units?
The Romans can levy units from neutral or friendly Hordes that are passing through their land. They dont need to be client states.
Cheese
thanks :)
As for the colour scheme, its not called the dark ages for nothing.. good vid!
Spears need to be your first line on defensive testuedo, the get next to 0 kills regardless they just tire out and kill cav.
When it comes to this game I either choose the Danes or Saxons XD
You just killed a bunch of equites there charging both at the onagers. They friendly fired the first equites unit in front of them 😬😬
Jesus heir your spoiling us here😂
Next time put your spearmen in defensive testudo and the cohors in wall shooting dards.....once finished put them down and stablish a defensive formation behind spearmen....use the unit wisely next time....
Pulling back basically kills your unit like you will start to lose describe ly
Heir please more Attila
From a young man in Cleveland
You are in normal difficulty.. what did you expected from AI??
Give Sassanids each turn some little leftover money to improve relationship, then they will not attack you
Other than the clean water, what has Rome done for us?
To be fair, they spread culture and advanced technology across Europe. Not saying they were perfect (they were a brutal dictatorship, after all), but they were essential to the development of Western Civilization.
Of course, if you're joking, sorry about the misunderstanding. XD
Andrew S It's a Monty Python reference.
Glenn Weissman Ah... I've only seen Holy Grail, so I don't recognize references to the later movies. Sorry about that. XD
Andrew S Much hilarity ensues. Go watch Life of Brian.
I guess he livestreams on UA-cam?
u forgot about the archers on the wall, u had 2 units :P
Heir are you on EST or central?
Hephaestion He's on Central time.
Nathan Paul thanks buddy
Eastern Rome is AWESOME!!
When will be the next live stream?
Heir, I would prefer that you also alternate hour and half an hour episodes throughout the weekdays. For me hour long episodes are too long to watch. I really like the Sunday-Special day idea btw.
Or do 45 minutes
Comment for the beginning of this vide : just do it. ;)
Otherwise, good game. :)
How does he do that on 41:26??? Can somebody tell me?
I know this is coming a bit late but instead of turning battle difficulty to normal you qccidentaly turned campaign difficulty to normal and battle difficulty is on very hard
so no more ostrogoths?
did anybody notice the face of a lady on the mountain
Convert to Roman Paganism!
crackshack2 i'd recommend it due to the sanitation bonus, the greek christian bonus is pretty lame
Why would he do that?
Cool i like it
