    Heir, I feel convinced that the Opening Video antagonist (the man lecturing Hannibal) is Hanno the Great.
    And I also feel like Hanno is the leading cause of Roman Victory in the second Punic War. As he apparently was chief in the decision to with-hold reinforcements for Hannibal in Italy. What a douche he was.

      its Hamilcar.-.

    • @lordaragorn001
      @lordaragorn001 10 років тому +16

      Adrian Cota yes hamilcar was talking, but he wasn't the one who stopped the reinforcements going for italy. he was the father of hannibal, a great carthaginian commander famous for his maneuvers, and guerrilla warfare with the mercenaries against the greeks he set a foothold in iberia and expanded, but he was killed by iberian rebels, then hannibal took command and kept expanding, till he took seguntum, which is where the games puts us in :).

      It's a Roman. Also, don't expect this game to be historically accurate.

    • @knives4cash
      @knives4cash 10 років тому

      That is a VERY valid argument, one that I definitely agree with.
      However, I feel compelled to point out that after Cannae, the opportunity to send ANY reinforcements to Hannibal was short.
      Shortly after Cannae, Hannibal's younger brother Hasdrubal lost a major battle in Spain that ultimately resulted in Rome seizing control and thus preventing any reinforcements from going via land. (Hasdrubal made one big push later on and broke through, but he abandoned all of Spain in exchange.)
      And later on, Rome retook Sicily when they finally took back Syracuse and murdered Archimedes. Thus, they effectively cut off Hannibal via sea as well.
      So, even if the politicians HAD decided to help Hannibal, they would have had to act quickly. The war officially started in 218 BC; Cannae happened on August 2nd, 216 BC.

      true but the famous lines of "I have two folds in my toga. Which shall I let drop - that holding peace, or that with war?" was spoken by Quintus Fabius Maximus to the Carthagian Senate which that scene is referencing. And its clearly Carthage Rome II battle map shown in the intro cut scene not an Iberian town where Hannible was at.

    When i was playing this it really helps to disband the your Navy because you dont really need them in the beginning and you have armies in Africa that have troops you dont realy need so they just eat your upkeed, its best to disband them in the first turn and focus on economy and after turn 3 you start building an army.

    Two Things:
    1. It seems as though Rome has been nerfed horrendously in this expansion. Pre-Marian Troops suck apart from Principes, which can only be recruited from level 3 barracks. It seems as though Carthage can just steam-roll Rome off the Map with Libyan Infantry and African Elephants...
    2. With regards to diplomacy, I think they should make a TV show about it: "Everybody Hates Carthage"

    • @HeirofCarthage
      @HeirofCarthage  10 років тому +5

      1. I don't think Rome has really been nerfed. They already had massive unit availability with good armor, morale, defense, ect. They can still hold their own vs Carthage I think, but Carthage can threaten them more easily now.
      2. It sure seems that way :)

    You know, I always loved the Roman civilization and you have to appreciate the enormous contributions they made for mankind.

    Hey Heir, I don't think you knew this but you had a lot of useless AGENTS in the CARTHAGE campaign. You can put those agents in your armies to extend their movement range, increase your armies experience (with the champion), and lower your upkeep cost (with the dignitary). Its really useful for armies that are currently inactive cuz they could gain experience away from the battlefield. It REALLY pissed me off how many agents you had just laying around compared to how much you actually used.

    I know its unlikely, but it would be great if the Alexander and Barbarian Invasion expansions were redone for Rome II. Although they could probably be fully fledged games of their own. The two DLC so far have been good, but the expansions were much larger. If they are going to do a third DLC campaign then I'd personally like to see the Roman campaign against Parthia, including the famous annihilation of the Romans at Carrhae.

    I really think Ca needs to hold of on DLC and put some effort into fixing the AI,as it appears to think standing still in one spot under an artillery barrage is a good idea,vs at least trying to move away and make it harder for them,among other issues. Is having an at least halfway decent AI too much to ask for?

    • @HeirofCarthage
      @HeirofCarthage  10 років тому +1

      But if I remember correctly in the lead-up to Rome 2 CA said that the "Ai has been drastically improved" I expect them to do exactly that,especially given what modders with limited resources have been able to do on this issue. To allow it to be released it this condition speaks volumes about what they consider acceptable..

      I don't find the Very Hard setting to be much more challenging except for giving the AI tons of cheats. While some people enjoy that type of challenge, I really don't. It irritates me so bad that it makes it hard for me to enjoy the game. I will play some campaigns on harder settings eventually for folks who want to see it, but it will be a lot more tedious I think.

    Heir, why did you raze that settlement to the ground and then rebuilt it? I mean, I've never tried and I wondered, in TW games what's the advantage of just razing conquered settlements to the ground?

    • @weecam27
      @weecam27 10 років тому +1

      pretty sure killing everyone in it helps you keep order and stops the city from rebelling again meaning you can move your army onto new targets quicker.

      I just really like the story of Hannibal. Also most people think of Rome as the only republic of the ancient world. Carthage was also a republic and had an interesting political system.

    Prepares artillery assault.
    Lots of units just stand there in a tight formation not even trying to run or at leeast spread a little.

      To be fair other total war games had that problem as well with arty. I think, however overal AI is at least ok now, safe for the sieges, i think the game might improve on that issue if they remove the torching gates deal. Thanks for the vids mate, this is actualy awesome to watch.

  • @austyntona7607

    Heir, Will you try to recreate an army similar to Hannibal's army when He invaded Italy and try to stay more historic or will you create your own history in the campaign?

    • @HeirofCarthage
      @HeirofCarthage  10 років тому

      I can try, but to be honest recreating Hannibal's version of events in this campaign will be difficult as the diplomacy most likely wouldn't allow it. It will be my own history mixed as best I can with the reality I think.

    Hi Hannilbal,
    I hope you record the Carthage grand campaign live stream and put it on youtube cos I watch it from Singapore and we're 12 hours ahead of US EST. I've been hoping to watch a Total War campaign I like right to the end for years but most of the ones I like have all been ended prematurely.

    • @SuperCompany007

      HeirofCarthage Fantastic! And many thanks for putting up the Carthage campaign. Of all the other casters who've done this campaign, yours makes the best use of armies and agents. In my own campaigns, using agents makes can make a bigger difference than just expanding tru outright conquest alone. Agents slightly OP IMO so might as wel make full use of it :)

      Not just them, I don't know how many times I've rage quit my Rome campaign, I got Sparta and Athens coming at me from Magna Gracia and sometimes I am able to secure good relations with Syracuse and other times they are coming at me then Carthage and I don't know how the Arverni always conquer so fast, but they are always wrapping at my door.
