What a great adventure and film! The editor did a great job capturing the whole story, including all the stalks that didn't result in a kill. The little scene about mechanical issues on the boat struck with me too. Last season we had a mechanical failure after about a 3 hour boat ride to get to the hunting area. I had a nice bear spotted on shore at about 400 yards from where the boat was positioned, but we couldn't restart the main engine to reposition it and then launch the inflatable. So hunting became a secondary priority to troubleshooting the engine and just getting back safe. It was a nice 6'+ black bear (no rubs on the hide) that took his time eating some kelp and watching us dink around with the engine for about 30 min before he finally wandered off. We ended up taking the kicker back to harbor, which was about a 15 hour putz at 5-6 kts. Good times... T - Minus one month until I am planning on going out myself for a redemption trip. This film dropped just in time as a great primer!
8:38 subconsiously i thought "dont shoot that" idk something about being that close, and that bear was just grazing eating grass, not even worried about a thing..something about it felt off, and then you drew, i waited... great video, ill be checking out more
Awesome video guys! Takes me back to when i guided black bear and griz on the northwest coast of B.C. Its crazy how similar your hunt was to the many i guided, you brought forth the true ocean bear hunt with the sights and sounds and bear sightings! Thanks for taking me back! It was my favoright hunts of the year! Good job on the bears, sows can be tough to judge especially under pressure!
Always love watching these Alaska boat hunts, and great cinematography! I'm heading out for a 4 day hunt here in British Columbia next week, soI'm super stoked to see new footage right as I'm gearing up to head out...keep up the great work!!
@@tylershumaker8875 I'm on the South Coast, so I hunt mostly the coastal and cascade ranges for spring bear. There's been a few taken down here already, but I usually hold off until the last week of April at least to really get after them because the weather's always so hard to predict down here...every year's so different. Good luck up there!
Been a dream of mine to go up there with my .41 Blackhawk. Such beautiful country! Watching the video and several times I kept thinking, I’ve seen those shore lines before…, that bit of trees coming across the shore looks eerily familiar…. Probably not but several of the coves remind me of several of the coves that Randy Newberg has shown bear hunting. Good video guys!
Great adventure! I had the same thing happen to me on my first trip to Southeast. I was disappointed to harvest a giant old sow…for a little bit. She was 14 years old and alone. Bears are hard to judge. It’s the adventure and the awesome rug I have reminds me of it almost daily. I’m ready to go back after watching this
That was an awesome video, makes me want to plan a trip to Alaska, and thanks for showing having to fix the boat that is a real life situation that seems to happen. Can't wait for the next one.
Awesome job with the film! You get a good sense of how thick it is here in SE and how difficult it is to navigate the woods. Also the challenge of the inconsistencies of the wind off the ocean and a smart bear. Good shit fellas🙌🏽
Yellow jacket guy seriously asked if the only obvious bear that was out in the open that he was also stalking for who knows how long, was the bear? Some people man 😂
Man disappointing to have a guy with so much blood lust he is pissed about his own miss judgment. A trip like that and the guy seams unimpressed the whole time and cranky about his bear. To bad.
And getting pissy when the bear spotted you out in the open asking the camera guy if thats the right bear? Come on you know theres a bear out so stick to the bushline and move in
Please don’t hesitate to share your vast experience and opinion on how another man should hunt. Everyone has their own hunting style, this place would be pretty boring if everyone acted, talked and even hunted the same exact way. Just watch the video and refrain from criticizing someone else’s preferences.
We asked ADF&G and they said under those circumstances shooting that bear in the tree would be legal. Not definitively knowing the law and the scenario feeling weird we obviously elected to pass.
40min in to this and I can't help but feel like these guys should've let some arrows fly already.. made respect for the effort but arrows gotta fly to punch your tag.
Was this through an outfitter, or just people you all know up there? I'm very interested in going and doing something like this! I also feel like being a right handed shooter would have been such an advantage -- I feel like every stalk was really awkward for the lefty shooter
I would have shot the 6' 8 to 7 foot bear the first day without a second thought. A really nice trophy with a bow. Frankly, I have never understood not taking a mature prime animal instead of waiting for a declining animal. The day one bear has bred and passed on the genes, so available for harvest in my book. Its like passing on "the rock" to take George Burns. I enjoyed the fellow shooting the marlin 336 in 30-30. I don't play with sharp sticks but I have taken 3 with a lever action in 50 Alaskan.
For whatever this is worth......let me tell you a little about what I've learned from 22 years living in the remoteness of Northern British Columbia. In regards to your feelings about shooting a sow, predators fall under a very different category than ungulates when it comes to male vs female harvest. There's a certain political correctness that wants to dominate our thinking about this. I know you're not really in great ungulate country there, so it's probably not a huge deal, but an over abundance of predators is not good. We have so many bears here in our area, the ungulates are suffering badly. Shooting a sow is just as good of a management idea as anything. Just my thoughts......not every one will like them......
Pass on a good Boar because "its the first day" only to shoot a sow on the last.. Don't pass on anything the first day that you'd be happy with on the last
Did that guy call the fist bear you drew on 7 foot???? No F-ing way that was 7 foot. Big eyeing SOB. Wish I had a dollar for ever bear that got big eyed a foot bigger or 100 pounds heavier.
Incredible video! Biggest critique on SG videos is not being able to watch them with the next generation of hunters because of the language. Every youngster we can get interested in hunting the better because hunters are becoming a minority in this country Anyways Congrats!
We try to keep these as clean as we can and try to instruct our guys to keep it clean during filming but a couple seem to slip through as that's just reality. Appreciate the feedback!
THAT INTRO, JESUS!!! THIS IS INCREDIBLE. TOP GRADE PRODUCTION
Thanks!
My brother in his element doing what he was born to do! So proud Jess!
The camera work was fantastic. The stalks and over the shoulder looks at the bears was awesome
What a trip guys, hunts like these are the American dream👍
Great camera work! And the good old lever gun toped it off!
30/30 no scope,!!! That's a hunt baby!! Wow!

finest video quality .... awesome film ...
Good on ya for the ending. All bear hunters stress about taking a sow wether they admit it or not.
Very nice camera work guys!!!! Great hunt!!👍👍😀
Great video SG! Alaska is a special place.

Man I moved away from SE AK last December and man this makes me miss it
Solid work by the Capt. that dog wanted no part of the bear ha! same with ours. Good haul, Alaska has it draw on us all.
Great hunt guys.

Excellent video, Well done. Yes bears have the best nose in the wild but do you think wearing some good camo would helped at all?
Honestly wearing black was probably better than camo in our opinion.

Those pants worn in this video reminds me of a 70s movie. What's the deal with the bell bottoms.
Nice trip all together. Job well done. where can I sign up?
What gear are they wearing? Jackets, pants, etc?
My man was hard scoping the corner in the end
Kudos to an ethical hunter not taking the shot at a bear in a tree! If it isn't illegal, it should be.
We asked ADF&G and they said under those circumstances shooting that bear in the tree would be legal. Not definitively knowing the law and the scenario feeling weird we obviously elected to pass.

Great film boys! Only one series critique..... WHO BRINGS MUSTARD and NOT KETCHUP?!
That's definitely a real concern and we agree, ketchup before mustard especially when we're talking burgers!!
Love to hunt. I'm a big dude and have to wear Sitka because it fits. Love your packs but can't wear your clothing.
Not sure how much time in boots American hunters get but that stalk game needs some work. Good vid though
