  • In this video, Filmed back in February I head out to explore Oklahoma's painted desert and map a route. This little known area of Oklahoma is gorgeous and an easy drive. The route begins at Canton Lake, weaves through some scenic areas, and I end this video in Fairview, and head back to Canton to camp. In the next part of this video coming out soon, I come back at a later date and continue to map out a section from where I left off up to salt plains state park where I end the night.
Designed for the photographer, Overlander, or just someone seeking a little adventure on some backroads, OKBXR is sure to have something interesting for everyone. From scenic views, Historic points of interest, Old bridges, or just plain ole fun roads to drive, OKBXR is designed to give someone a starting point on where to get out in Oklahoma.

I just stumbled onto your videos..I am enjoying your homespun narration and video. I live in Enid and have travelled all over western OK including Hinton area. I recognized several roads you travelled. I too enjoy the wide open spaces and varied terrain. I used to calibrate natural gas meters all over the areas you travel and enjoyed the scenery... I have just started viewing your videos.

I just now watched your video and I have a couple of questions for you. Myself and a few others fly powered parachutes and would like to fly over that area. Is there any place a person could use as a landing strip?

When will you be hitting the road again? I’ve got 9 days off coming.

Another great video. Didn’t realize this was shot in Feb. Everything is so brown and snow last week??? Then I read the description. 😂

I live about three miles from your camp. I’m just starting to get into this. We should do some trails together sometime!

@@WestOkOverland Thanks for replying and I did see the name of the area - but was more interested in any route information you could provide. I see Hwy 412 takes me to the Painted Desert but where did you go from there? Thanks

The painted desert route, is part of the Oklahoma Backroad Exploration Routes, which can be found on Facebook. The exact route is posted on there. That’s where I publish all my public routes.

Was there a reason for the established camp in that remote area?

this is one of the most beautiful places in OK in my eyes. Love the western landscapes but despise the liberalism of the rockymountain states so I particularly enjoy these places in OK.
