You are definitely setting a trend man, I see people doing this all over downtown Colorado Springs. Some people do it for months or even year, unreal dedication. You are an inspiration!
Awesome, man! I hope they discover another amazing stealth camping meal, the sandwich. You take some bread, then add some cheese and vegetables and meat if you have it, and ideally some mayo and mustard, and you have a meal. Make another if you're hungry. One day this may even replace the classic "wrap" that has fueled civilization for centuries

right? this guy has charisma to spare and the whole gimmick is really really fun. Kind of the good version of "I spent the night between walmart shelves and no one noticed"
Two most important components of a stealth camping video. 1. An area that is high traffic yet has a section that is never traveled to give that feeling of "I'm doing this thing I'm not really supposed to do right next to all these people and they have no idea." 2. Said area must be small to give that sense of coziness that you get when you have all the stuff you need in a small confined space. Oh and if you were to do something like this again, aka stealth camp in an area you can walk past but shouldn't normally go, I'd suggest keeping some trash in your pocket. Then if a cop or someone of the like spots you outside of your area, you can flash them the trash, give a nod, and walk back over to where you should normally be until they leave. They'll assume you're just a good citizen helping out the sanitation department by picking up trash most others wouldn't.
@@cvspvr They have far more to worry about than a random guy who's only suspicious thing is being in the middle of a roundabout but otherwise seems completely normal and fine.
@@randomlyentertaining8287 they'll probably still ask a few questions. i've been questioned by cops for walking home late at night. sure, they weren't confrontational, by i did have a perfectly valid excuse
Lol most of the cops would just kick you out and be on their way, man. Trying to lie to people that hear lies 24/7 is a good way to piss them off. Just say your homeless. I was homeless for the entirety of 2017. I would go into a Panera bread or the public library, community college knowing full well I was going to get kicked out. Sometimes it was 30 minutes, sometimes it was 6-7 hrs. They wake you, you say sorry, then leave and walk away. Switch up your spots so you don’t annoy the owners and you’re good.

As a person who lives about 500m from that specific roundabout, and have used it many times myself, you sir have found the jackpot and I must commend you! No one ever bats an eye at that bush, and and I didn't even notice the rocks until you pointed them out. Like you described in the beginning, people are way too focused on not getting hit to even think about how someone could camp in a bush that is presumed to be all bush, and not a hollow bush-mansion for a stealthy man like you. Well done sir, well done!
Can we just appreciate the fact Steve has escalated these stealth camps from what we thought was "stealthy" like sleeping in a car at an airport or in culvert under a secluded road, to now what can only be compared to that of spending a night essentially on stage surrounded by people unbeknownst to anyone!! Absolute legend Steve, keep it sneaky brother!
When I was homeless me and my friends would sleep like this all the time! Favorite place was in an underpass. We climbed up the side and slept in a little alcove under the bridge. People would walk by but never see you LOL And I stayed in many of bushes. I would look around and finding places and bushes that looked good to sleep in and make a little camp
This guy is living my dream. Every time I’m out walking I’m scoping out place that I could hide away for the night. Stealth camping! I think it comes from childhood adventures of climbing under a bush to find a perfect hideaway.
This episode hits all the right marks for being a great stealther: - Tactical gear - Hidden in plain sight - Cozy location - Potential trouble with authorities
Just walk away like you were looking for something and didn't find it to return to stealth, paranoia is physically visible and police use it as a reason to investigate even if everything seems normal besides that, there's nothing to fear Steve, don't worry
I love how in google maps the roundabout is now labeled “Steve Wallis Roundabout” maybe they’ll put up a statue of Steve in the middle. I think this is the best stealth I’ve seen yet. Good job!
When i lived in California there were all these little hidden away foliage areas off roads and between fences out of the way that I always imagined stealth camping in. Nice to see someone do something similar.
Great video Steve, it brings me back to the winter of 1983 when I was a messed up young guy flat broke and homeless. I took my last bit of money and bought a cheap nylon pup tent and stealth camped in a ravine in Toronto. I did this for two months while working day labor jobs to save money for rent. Viewers need to realize your anxiety is real and justified because I was hassled by police and security guards for sleeping on business or government property. I never went near private properties. My ravine location was never discovered. You don't know what cold is until you have slept in a ravine in winter.
@@Rob-dp3vr Doing well. I have worked 31 years at the same employer and have traveled the world. I was lucky but also worked hard to never be homeless ever again. The reflective vests are actually probably the perfect way to hide in plain sight. Sure, you're more visible. But to myself and I'm sure many other people, if I see someone in a reflective vest, I generally just assume they're there on some kind of official business.
In 20 years of trades work, I can tell you that you can put on high-visibility coveralls, steel-toed boots, a shoulder-slung toolbag, and carry a clipboard, and if you're acting like you're actively looking at things(following pipes on the ceiling, or pausing to inspect lights/hydrants/etc.), people just assume that you belong and don't question you.
Can confirm with the clipboard alone. Old job I had, doing deliveries, no real dress code so in the summer was basketball shorts and a t-shirt, and no one ever stopped and questioned me.

As a young teen, my mom and I had an apartment in Alaska really close to town so I could walk anywhere and I did. There was a HUGE bush shaped tree on the side of the road sort of distanced from all the surrounding houses and one day while walking home, I decided to go over to it. When I got there I saw a small "entrance" on the side so I walked in and it was like something out of a fairytale. Nice and open inside, lost of sun but totally invisible to anyone outside. I felt special for having found it. As a child I use to wander around the Alaskan woods by myself for fun. This one time, I saw the most beautiful spruce tree like the perfect giant christmas tree with it's lowest branches draped so low they were touching the ground. I pulled the branches back to reveal that some child from the past had made it a secret hideout/fort. It was so clean and open inside, I went back thousands of times until we moved out of the neighborhood many years later. There was a patch of woods across from the house I grew up in and I spent most of my time there. There were 3 old moss covered logs that had fallen just so that it made a small triangle on the ground. I collected fallen leafy and spruce branche that I stuck in the ground around the entire perimeter of the log triangle. I was so hidden in there that no one could see me and none of the neighborhood kids ever found it. To this day, I am SO fascinated with nooks, hidden places and secret hideouts.
I love hidden spots too! Some of my best memories are exploring the natural brazilian pepper tree forts in Florida. For an invasive species they sure make a great fort.
This was brilliant... Classic Canadian who was overly nervous that other people would care he's in a shrub in the middle of a roundabout... Hi Steve. I find it amazing that the people that post negative and mean comments really don't understand the concept of the channel Camping with Steve. Steve is not homeless, he works has a home and family and friends. His youtube channel just grew because of his simplicity of Camping Camping the way he does
As someone who has been homeless, it's important to be able to find places like these where one can sleep without being seen or bothered. Sadly, all the places like that around here have so many other homeless people in them that you either can't sleep there or it becomes too obvious just because there are too many people.
I was homeless a few years ago and I had a perfect spot but unfortunately it's now a parking lot lol. It was a little wooded area that had somewhat of a hill for drainage and it was behind a line of stores ( I used pallets from them to make a platform and a windbreak.
@Clay Pylant be careful, that’s pretty harsh criticism to an unfortunately large group of people, all of whom have their own string of reasons for ending up homeless. It can happen to anyone, it’s definitely not by choice
@@eclipse12822 a huge portion of the homeless population are that way by choice actually. They’re to lazy to work and they’d rather beg buy drugs and just have enough food to survive the rest goes to drugs and alcohol. roofs used to be the go to, plenty of warm vents, often during day time because night time is when all the nasty ppl tended to move around. these days it seems they dont care
This is something I'd fantasied about frequently on trips as a child; imagining what little worlds or resting places could hide in the little scraps of "useless" land along the roads and cul-de-sacs. It's odd; but I'm quite pleased to find out that not only did someone else feel this way; but as an adult they acted on their feelings and gave it a go.
I can relate to that.. would always wonder if it’s possible to walk along the motorway in the hedges/trees at the side of the road or live there. In between places. Wonder if there’s a name for it

Stealth tip; try to just clack the very right corner of the can seal and get as much air out. Then, use your thumb and push down moving from the corner you clacked the rest of the way. Get some kinks out so they don't randomly do that clang sound, and enjoy! Cheers. Love your videos.
My 10 year old son, Daniel, and I love watching your videos. We like to set up our tent in the backyard or sleep in the back of our SUV, in our driveway, and pretend we're stealth camping "like Steve".😊
One of the coolest things, ever. I have 3 sons and we went camping all the time, helped us get through our divorce as a group. They are now in their 40’s and still talk about those as being the best of times, despite our losses, we weathered it in the woods. Enjoy that time with your boy.
A note about sleeping bag temperatures for those wondering: a bag’s temperature “rating” is the lowest temperature that it can keep you alive in. That includes you being freezing cold and shivering, but alive. So, if you want to be comfortable, make sure your bag is rated for lower temperatures than you expect to sleep in!
To add to this, the rating assumes you’re using a properly insulated sleeping pad as well. Sleeping on the ground will lose a lot of heat into the ground and leave you colder
This is gonna become a trend and next thing you know you’re gonna be walking into your apartment and hear somebody underneath your bed say “I think this is a pretty good stealth camping spot, the owner has just returned home, but from my perspective here I don’t believe he’ll be able to see me. right? this guy has charisma to spare and the whole gimmick is really really fun. Kind of the good version of "I spent the night between walmart shelves and no one noticed"
Two most important components of a stealth camping video.
1. An area that is high traffic yet has a section that is never traveled to give that feeling of "I'm doing this thing I'm not really supposed to do right next to all these people and they have no idea."
They'll assume you're just a good citizen helping out the sanitation department by picking up trash most others wouldn't.
i don't know man, some cops might buy the trash excuse, but i think a lot of them would still ask questions
Bet you're a bucket load of fun at parties
Lol most of the cops would just kick you out and be on their way, man. Trying to lie to people that hear lies 24/7 is a good way to piss them off. Just say your homeless. I was homeless for the entirety of 2017. I would go into a Panera bread or the public library, community college knowing full well I was going to get kicked out. Sometimes it was 30 minutes, sometimes it was 6-7 hrs. They wake you, you say sorry, then leave and walk away. Switch up your spots so you don’t annoy the owners and you’re good.

Some of us had swat teams in our houses in the 90s because the garage smelled like weed

@@codgodmase7680 ALL your ancestors, over billions of years, thought it was perfectly 'normal'. And NONE of them were 'homeless', nor suffered from mortgage stress.
Smoking is a hunger depressant and so “helps” stop the hunger pangs.
You’d know this if you observed most homeless in America (specifically Cali where I live)
roofs used to be the go to, plenty of warm vents, often during day time because night time is when all the nasty ppl tended to move around. these days it seems they dont care
Wonder if there’s a name for it
The urge to become a Traveler. The tiny house movement back in 2009 felt like that, before they made TV shows about it.
Omg I’m not the only one! 😄 I still do it today. I imagine fairies live in gravel pits and under bushes at the truck stop.
@@CrystalMouse1as an adult you find out instead of faries theres just needles and empty listerine bottles in those weird places
@@TheBiggestNaturals 🤣 not yet, thankfully but yeah that's possible in the city for sure. I live in Washington state. Lots of needles in Seattle
Imagine reviewing your dashcam and seeing Steve's face in a roundabouts bush lol 😆
That's gonna end up on Nukes top 5.
Imagine sleeping in a roundabout and a vehicle deciding to go straight

This video just popped up on my recommended page, the title is straightforward but i was like is that really whats happening, lol sure enough and now im going to be binging stealth camp videos from you. Youre so sweet and so funny. Your face when you were shaking the lettuce bag! LOL! "thats not stealthy!!" Great video my friend.
"We'll just 'stealth crack' this beer" had me absolutely rolling
i love your commitment
Well, that's what we say up here in tropical Top End Australia: 'Camping' without an Esky [icebox] full of cold beer is basically just 'sitting in the bush' !
I teach English as a second language to Polish students and I've recently been recommending Steve's videos as unusual "real life" material. Also, because they're fun. :)
That’s very cool. Hoping they’re enjoying them!
Steve's accent and pace is perfect for ESL learners. Good call! I'm from Michigan and esl students often say I'm easy to understand, especially compared to Brits, etc., who tend to speak too fast and have difficult accents.
Didn’t know I needed to watch a man be anxious in a bush all night but hell I’m glad I did
Stealth tip; try to just clack the very right corner of the can seal and get as much air out.
Sound like a great mom, he’s a lucky lil dude.
That is the cutest thing ever and will *definitely* be a memory he will have for the rest of his life.
so awesome. I want to do that.
Awww
im now going to be searching for the most deluxe roundabout to camp in whenever i drive. Thank you steve wallis for the creative, original content
Cheers!
@@campingwithsteve What would happen if you got caught?

Just be careful you don’t set up camp in the same one!
It depends on the sleeping bag. For example the one I have has a comfort rating, lower limit rating and extreme rating.
@@missingMBR my sleeping bag has the same.
Was turning it inside out another factor in reducing its performance?
@It's not looking good it's also assumed this is Earth and not Mars.
