The island is part of the Corfu regional unit, and is administered by three municipalities with the islands of Othonoi, Ereikoussa, and Mathraki. The principal city of the island (pop. 32,095) is also named Corfu.

I cycled all over Corfu in the early 70s and this is exactly as I remember it. The holiday makers with the rental car must have been well off. I have no idea about the hotel with its funicular railway, never seen that before! You might think the driving is all on back roads, but these were actually main roads in those days. Lovely empty beaches, no dreadful sunbeds or to be honest tatty commercialisation. Many thanks for the upload, brought back memories. David
