It’s fantastic to see how your restoration progress is developing….being a far away member of the L & H i love how you keep us all up-to date ….thank you
Thanks for such an informative video, my fingers are crossed 🤞 with yours for the extra funding needed. You're doing a great job & it's good to see the tree 🌳 & hedge planting being done to give nature a home by the water. Nice to see so many volunteers enjoying themselves too.
That was just a fantastic presentation and must enjoyable to watch and appreciate all the hard work by all that has gone in to it, as well the informative progress and plans for the new year. If I see Santa in my travels, I'll let him know that your all need little extra in your stockings for being more than just good. A bloody big BRAVO ZULU on a tremendous job to all involved.
So will this section also be navigable as soon as HS2 is done with the diversion and lock 30 is completed? And what about going further to Darnford Lane and even further? Will it all depend on pumping the water from the brook?
In theory yes, subject to access through the section currently used by the Crusiing Club and the fact that there's no winding hole so boats would have to reverse back. The section to Darnford Lane (and onwards) will depend on getting more funding.
@@LHCRT OK, thank you. Personally, I think that when LHCRT will manage to open even a small section of the canal to an actual navigation (connected to the network) it will be a huge moral boost for the project. Even if you already did an amazing work until now, of course...
Do you mean the weekly Lichfield Community Lottery? We promote that a lot on Twitter and our members' newsletters, but not on UA-cam. (I'm waiting for my numbers to come up too! 🤞)
I don't know all the details, but the government guaranteed funding for European Regional Development Fund projects following Brexit and existing managing authorities in the UK continue to manage ERDF grants.
When we left the EU we paid billions of pounds to cover already agreed obligations , I’m presuming grants like these are part of this . Not really EU money but British tax payers money after all we were always net contributors to the EU . Great to see the money going to a great cause, could do with the men and women organising the Lichfield canal restoration, sorting out the Ashby canal restoration . As nothing ever seems to be happening with it despite the announcements over the years of various grants being awarded.
The piling is currently galvanised which provides very long-term corrosion protection. If you weld it then you breach the galvanising and it corrodes a lot faster. You have to grind the zinc back quite a way from the weld too, otherwise it burns off when welding, giving you zinc fume which is highly unpleasant. Overall, the tape is a better option.
Fantastic work from the 🙋♀️ 🙋♂️ volunteers and brilliantly explained 👏( I learnt a lot, especially taping seams) by whiskers.
Excellent work, well done
It’s fabulous to see such progress and to hear that another section will be in water in the near future.
What a great, informative and exciting update! Congratulations on the grants.
Great work by you all guys 👍🏻

Thank you for the interesting update. Admirable work for such a worthy cause.
Simply wonderful work on the canal, but also on applying for funds. Teams are not 'one dimensional' they are multi 'dimensional'! Bravo to you all.
Its great to see all of this progress!

@@LHCRT Interesting. Where do you plan to have the next winding hole, BTW? I know there is one at Borrowcop already...
@Butrus Damaskus there will be one just after the lift bridge, but I'm not sure how big it will be. I must ask the question as I've always wondered.

Absolutely. It's something we've been aiming for for a long time. (I want a trip boat 😀)
I notice that not much promotion is given to the LHC monthly lottery? I am waiting for mine to be the winning numbers. xx

@@LHCRT Yes - it is because the money comes out monthly - but yes. Woo Hoo enough to buy a narrow boat.
so where will this branch connect? trent and mersey canal ?
The Coventry (at this end) and Wyrley & Essington (at the other end):

How do you get EU grant when we are not in EU
I don't know all the details, but the government guaranteed funding for European Regional Development Fund projects following Brexit and existing managing authorities in the UK continue to manage ERDF grants.
So not EU money?
It is EU funding. I believe we may be in the last tranche of the funding.
Thanks enjoyed the video best wishes

Wish I lived nearer to volunteer
You could become a member instead. That's the best way to support us from afar: lhcrt.org.uk/mobile/m.membersapply.html
Why not weld the seams to the panels instead of sticky tape?

Sponsored piles great 💡 idea .
