    ah yes brothrer,,,, i started my MX racing on the 89 125, had many bikes over the years but this bike, being my first, held a soft spot with me, still have her today 24 years on, spent way to much money on a ground up rebuild, still even have the factory workshop manual that the boys from Kawasaki Cairns kindly gave me for the rebuild,,, FYI, a 125 rear guard fits the 89, and gives it a better look, not so rounded more flatter guard, love my bike dude,,,,

    You need to resurface both the head and cylinder. Look at it joe it may be smooth but that little bit will make it leak. Unless it's a faulty gasket. Resurface the head just enough

    I left a comment on the previous video but will do the same here for anyone curious about KIPS. If you have a more common KDX 200 with the same KIPS system (same applies for similar years KX): BDK and motoduro UK makes replacement powervalves for the KDX 200 and a couple of other companies make them for the KX. I went with motoduro and got mine shipped pretty fast. The wear problem is that the OEM valves are aluminum and the power valve shaft is steel. If the KIPS system isnt maintained then the valves will not move as freely as they should and the teeth fail. My KDX had worse looking powervalves where one side has completed rounded into an aluminum pellet and was basically gone. Fresh valves make a world of difference and the steel ones are well worth the money for these awesome machines!

    Glad she's finally going man, I know uve already been hit alot lol but yeah man, flat surface, some 600 grit wet sand paper, and surface that head, and put water on the paper to use it as wet sand paper. Not dry b.c. it will clump up and not sand evenly. Cylinder head, can do the same by hand or use scotch bright pad, wire brush the studs, put antisieze on threads when torquing too. And instead of silicone (shouldn't be needed but last resort with clean shiny surfaces) use the gasket tack, spray on gasket adhesive and it doesn't squish out everywhere after torquing. Deff can't wait for riding vid though!!! Hell ya man

  • @johncoleman2495
    @johncoleman2495 Рік тому

    @2vintage I believe the center power valve is timed wrong....don't believe it's supposed to close when the other 2 open. Head and cylinder need to be resurfaced. Spark and timing are still an unknown... which is always a problem with bikes that have been hacked! Which you continue to do. Never pays to cob stuff together. As you're finding out with this clam. Someone else already did exactly what you're doing. Half assed a bunch of stuff chasing their tail. Guessing and changing multiple things at once never gets you where you want to go. Also never tells you what was wrong to begin with. In most cases like this, you're best off tearing it completely down and doing things right from the bottom up. And with these old bikes parts need to be replaced and refurbished. Buy a carb kit, complete gasket set, resurface the head and cylinder, new ring(at a minimum) new crank seals, new intake boot! New air filter!(not a junk K&N) CLEAN THE AIR BOX! , clean and or rebuild the petcock, make sure it's timed properly and get a manual (should be able to find it online) test coil and stator, and assemble the power valve according to the manual!

    Carb cleaner has more balls than brake cleaner for jobs like this. Seems the mechanism is very complex especially compared to the design used by the rotax engines in the Aprilias for example. When you put that together I winced as the mating surfaces were filthy - no wonder you got a leak (I'm surprised at you!). Also cleaning with a wire wheel will clean the surface but it wont be flat anymore. Sorry if I sound like a dick, just sharing what I have picked up along the way.

    The 1989 KX125 and Suzuki Rm125 used a conventional 46mm KYB front fork and are the ones to own. Lots of 89 250s went to inverted forks that were poor. Earlier 90's inverted forks became pretty good eventually. 89-90+ Honda inverted front forks were the worst.
