$500 isn't really a sweet deal for a 93 125, even putting fresh tires and plastics on you'll lose money when you sell it.
@brdman I had my last dirt bike for 5 years and put almost $1000 into maintaining it. Just saying buying bikes that old is almost never worth it unless you can get a really good deal (

I absolutely love how it has the 2 different shades of green on the fenders and the graphics and seat cover blends them beautifully.
Take off rear subframe. Makes carb removal/install so much easier. Also u missing an exhaust mount

It was running lean it had a hanging idle if you actually rode dirt bikes you would know and hear it easily

Wow, it's beautiful. Kawasakis were so awesome back in the day.
I was a skinny 13 year old holding on for dear life on an old Yamaha DT400. Now, riding around on a little 125, in my Boomer days, sounds like the deal.
Take that rear brake apart and clean and re-grease with rubber grease the slider pins, the brake will work as should then. Same for the front too.

It's not lean, If she's blowing smoke she's good to go. 125s have a very close ratio trans because lack of horsepower. Call it a major score she's a ripper !
Hanky Bannist8r sounds like he has a lean condition to me, it has a hanging idle. Either an air leak somewhere or pilot circuit issue
I think he just needs adjust the air screw...that should richen it up on the bottom

seals may have gone rock hard on it but it sounds like it has an air leak to me. anything in the silencer ? might sort itself out after a good run easiest $500 you ever made if it does
I wouldn't mess with the jets. May be old reeds or an air leak somewhere

Todd Jacobs i always look for the obvious. bike has been parked up for 6 years? they are usually parked for a reason.
he’s just covered doing a compression test and leak down test. if i had the tools i would be doing this check on every bike i got hold of.

That's probably the best looking KX I've ever seen. If it was only a 250
I dont know if the short shifting has to do with this. But you said you put 10w-40 in it. But since its a two stroke the cylinder gets its lubrication and oil from the pre mix. So a proper 80w gear oil is recommended for filling up the case and not 10w-40. Most all two stroke dirt bikes take an 80-85w gear oil. So maybe that will help with the shifting
Pretty sweet bike for $500 beans. Two things: Sub-frame off for carb removal and check the dang air filter. Probably a squirrel living in there. Nice video though and have fun with that thing. Braaap!
That bike runs great, runs crisp, I think you need to hold them gears out longer tho... it’s not lean, these old kx’s always feel/sound lean...also I think the silencer may need repacked

Hanging idle is to lean on the pilot jet adjust the air fuel screw to richen it up at idle ..go up 2 on the main jet for the cold weather.. cant go by the OEM specs since it has a pipe on it.
I specifically bought a bike like this just to learn how to work on bikes lol. It's been fun as hell. Now I'm modding it into a scrambler and it looks killer

I used to use SOS pads to clean rims, pipes & such, makes them shine like brand New !

The early 90's blue fork Kawasakis are so cool. I say make it look stock again, they were beauties. Enjoy that bike regardless!

Len Gaming yea Kawi bikes with the KIPS is notorious for having a little ticking noise
My 95 cr250 ticks like that to and the motor is brand new to to bottom it's always made that noise

Yeah all kawi engines are noisy, I have a kx500, kx65 and even a 99 zx7r and a 2000 ZX9R. They all rip, hardcore and are very healthy engine but very mechanical sounding. They all tick like hell. The 9R is the noisiest, but makes 192 RWHP. So yeah, a happy kawi is a noisy kawi. Lmao.

I can polish that back to a mirror in no time, got some spray that takes that surface rust off completely and some Wenol pnk label that is amazing.
Could need crank seals that would cause a air leek and make it run lean. I would put crank seals in it because it has been sitting
Btw, the chrome polish won’t work well on headers because it’s formulated to polish nickel playing which is what chrome actually is and due to the high heat that a given off from the exhaust, it’ll fade pretty quickly. You can honestly use basic rubbing compound and/or metal polish and it’ll last a whole lot longer. I’ve used that stuff for years and even used it to polish rims and other metal surfaces. I mean, I know you know what you’re doing but that’s just my .02, lol.
Its a PC Works pipe. After every ride they recommend to spray it down in WD-40 to make it perfect.

Nice barn find, how’s the suspension feel for a 93. I just picked up a 2000 kx250 and got the fork seals done and got a brand new rear shock oem I don’t know what settings to have it at but she’s a little stiff for the trails. My 2017 floats over bolders no problem and my 250s a bit sketch lol.
Check the jets and compare the them to the stock ones. When it gets colder out the bike will also run leaner so you may need to adjust accordingly. I have a 2001 kx125 and have a pro circuit pipe on it also and if you look up pro circuit jetting for 1993 kx125 then it will give you a good starting point. Don’t forget to consider altitude also. Great find btw, 500 is a steal.

I would,ve loved to see how he changed the rear brake fluid, bet he did,nt even bleed it, just siphoned off the old fluid.
For that pipe, I'd use Wenol and green scotch Brite on my dremel, it does nice job.finish with 4 ought steel wool.
sweet bike bro you made a good buy looks great for a 93 but if I was you I would definintly check out that cylander and probably replace that piston cause those 125 pistons go bad after like 20 hours hard and it looks like it hasn't been changed for a long time.
Do a leak down test and compression test. Seems like you're pulling air somewhere. Crank seals both sides should be replaced and while you're in there let's give the clutch plates and basket a look.
Idle hanging a little? Try richening your idle air mixture a quarter turn. Assuming you checked for the obvious, vac leaks and what not. Make sure it wasn't already screwed with, start in factory specs. Prob 2.5 out or something.

When you riding a 2 stroke do you have to pull the clutch in after you go full throttle? First 2 stroke and 2nd top end
MID CITY whenever your not on the gas use the clutch. engine breaking is bad for 2 strokes

I got it for $700 spend $200 on new piston and rings and got a over 100 hours of riding out of it
But i didn't stop saving and now i have 01 yz125, 06 kx250f and
2010 CR450f you just have to believe in yourself
Ed Dean I did something similar only I bought and sold from the time I was 11 until now at almost 17.... saved up my money when I was 11, bought a good Klx125 for $300 that needed only little work, sold tha bike for $700 after riding it for 2 years, then bought a old Yamaha rt180 2stroke for $700, sold that one for $900... lol THEN I bought a 1994 Kx125that needed fully restored for $80 lol and sold that bike for 1800 after I restored it... haha sold that bike and bought me a 2000 Chevy Silverado(the one in my profile pic)... just shows what you can do if you manage your money right
Did the same thing, worked for over a year for a carpenter. 5:30 in the morning and worked all day. Saved up money and put down payment on a yz250. It's completely worth it, you just have to work hard.

The reason the carby has green paint on it is because the frame has been painted. Also has new front fender and plastics apart from rear fender.
Looks like the rear fender and rear side panels are Maier plastics( they had that weird, darker color back then). Front fenders are rarely replaced because they aren't prone to damage. Good call on the frame paint.

Clean score bro. This is the bike that gave me the bug my cousin raced an got a new kx125 every year in the early 90s. I remember loving those blue shocks lol. Check out LUNDMX's video on pipe restoration, he made the same but beattt pro circuit pipe look trick.
