GRAY BLENDING FOR DARK HAIR WITH GREY | HIGHLIGHTS ONLY NO LOWLIGHTS

- Grey (or gray) blending is a new way to transition your hair. It does not cover or color but it camouflages your grey, making hair coloring lower maintenance and easier to embrace your natural grey hair!
updated video: • GREY BLENDING FOR DARK...
My client in this video is allergic to hair color so we could NOT tone the highlights at the end. Toning would help negate the yellow tones. In 2020, my client made the transition from highlights to full grey hair. No color or highlight maintenance at all.

I would recommend having a lot less product on your brush when applying the lightener.
Also taking smaller sections so your able to get closer to the roots and don’t brush past your foil as that will create bleeding.
thanks!
LOL! Do you have a youtube channel? Although I was thinking that was a lot of bleach on the brush!! For someone doing this thats not real experienced in doing foiling. I think she has really good sections, How much smaller would you do? Those are nice and small. I've been doing hair 30 years and still like to get other ideas. This was a pretty good video it could use a little extra work! But we all can! I'm here looking for a little extra help! LOL I do think maybe some toner would be pretty/ certainly not necessary. I'm looking for a more silver look. I appreciate the help of the sectioning! It always depends on what look your going for!! Thanks
Is it just me trying to find a video of how to go from black hair to highlights gray?
I'm looking for one on a 5 level for highlights, however I have seen the black with highlights! It is beautiful. Don't give up bc demonstrations are out there
it would be the same process. if you arent allergic to color (as my client is) you can tone the highlight grey after.
I watched other videos and I couldn't understand why the people weren't just dying the whole head of hair because it looked like they were doing row after row after row of foils covered with bleach. Yours showed that there was a layer in between and you showed how to zigzag Within it making it more natural. I did not get that from any other videos I watched so I can't thank you enough. I am very nervous about doing this myself but I've had some bad experiences with hairdressers so for now I'd like to try it. And have a hairdresser fix it afterwards if I have to. Thank you so much. I'm glad I happened upon this video
thank you so much!!!
It’s sorta making me crazy that you have a big ol’ gob of product on your brush and starting at the root. I would feather up to the root for no harsh line, especially in the top. And having SO much product makes hair stick to it and get product where you don’t want it, like at the beginning.
I care most about the end result. hair color came out perfect.. even at the top. thanks for your comment!
If you're starting in the front I hope ur watching it like a hawk! 😳 A stylist started on my bangs once and by the time she took it out my bangs broke completely off!
I definitely heard you say you use a bond builder in your lightner like Olaplex. I know these products do great work not frying the hair. No I would never put lightner on fried hair and expect a miracle.
Thanks for the video!😉
i always watch like a hawk! even if i start from the back. don't want breakage anywhere!
never heard of that. must be an entry class.
New subscriber i love this and so happy I found you gorgeous and the foiling was spot on ❤
thank you so much for watching, subscribing and for your kind comment!
Would recommend to overdirect the hair section before you put the foil in, you will get closer to the scalp if you do so😊And don’t be afraid to pull the hair section so that it is really tight!
:)
This is so incredibly helpful, as I would like to help my mom who is also transitioning to grey. Can you tell me the recipe for the mix of bleach and the toner that you used after? Thank you! :)
i didnt use a toner because she is allergic to color. bleach with 20 vol is the HL
Looks great
Thanks!
What are the products ur using?
clairol bw2 bleach powder with 20vol same brand
Needs toner...too yellow
she is allergic to toner. thanks!
Can you do one on LOWLIGHTS?
absolutely! give me some time to get it done and I will!
Hi thanks for the video. I am not old but I have a ton of grey hair around my face and well everywhere. I am tired of coloring it. I have medium Brown hair so when the grey comes in you can really see it. would you recommend blending or highlighting?
I'm curious about this as well. Well, not really curious, just hoping like hell it's going to work because I'm going to do this. In preparation, I've used a Color Remover twice on my hair so it's now gone from dark brown to sort of light Auburn or dark strawberry blond. The grey is still quite prevalent at the top but the definition between the New Growth Roots has really been blurred. Now I want to do this balayage to bring the lightness of the roots down to the ends of my hair and I really hope it's going to work. Then I'll probably go over it all with a very light Ash blond hair colour to counteract the brassy reddish tone and blend it all together a little. Fingers crossed. Please let me know what your experience was if you did this
@@crystalconcrete7605 Too much work. Poor hair.
blending for sure!
LOVE your videos girl! we need another video showing us how you color your hair at home! rand remember to wear a cape1
lol thank you!! I will try to remember the cape
Thanks for sharing. ☺
Thanks for watching!
Is this something that could be done with black hair? All the videos I find are brunettes but not totally black hair. At the same time I can't find anybody saying that it won't work for very dark hair. Thanks
depends on what you want to outcome to be. this method will lighten the hair.
Ok but would look better toned
shes is allergic to color.. cannot use a toner.
@@ErikawithaK If she is allergic to color have you tried amonia free color on her? Or possibly putting toner on foils and rinsing each foil out separately , or use fanola no yellow shampoo? It's just the yellow is contrasting her dark grey hair and in the highlight form it's too shocking of a contrast. Your technique is there, but maybe next time after lifting her go back in and use toner with foils like 8- 9N
In my opinion the gray looked better. Highlights made it seem yellowish and unnatural. Mam, if you're reading this review, embrace your grays. They looked so beautiful.
she wasn't ready to and she's allergic to color so this is what we could do
Thank you for the video! Would you be able to post the name of the hair protectant you used? Thank you❤️
in the lightener, i use zerran or olaplex
Thank you so much!
My hair is similar to your mom, dark and greys. I used to go salon and have it done but it is hard to maintain and getting too expensive. For my age not practical coz I can not afford it. looking for less maintenance blonde hair
Hi you should have toned to get rid of the yellow for a more sophisticated look 😀
she is allergic to color. i cannot tone.
Her hair turned out so pretty. It's amazing what a few baby lights can do.
I have a couple of questions about my own hair if you don't mind me asking. My stylist is not a bleacher lol (her words) so I did my own a couple of years ago. I'm in the process of transitioning to all gray. Right now I have about 6" of gray, and where the gray stops it joins to near platinum bleached blonde the rest of the way down past my shoulders. I've got it colored with a darker demi blonde right now, but I'm getting ready to remove the color. I'd love to add in both baby low and high lights to it to give it some definition before putting on a much lighter silver/gray toner. Is it possible to do that without causing much damage, and messing up my eventual all gray transition? Also, I'm disabled, and don't want to have a lot of maintenance or upkeep by having to redo it all the time because I have both hand and arm issues. I can also do just another solid demi color on it again like I've been doing, and just go with a lighter silver/gray color that is dark enough to cover the demarcation line, but some lights in it sure would look pretty. Which way do you suggest would be the best route to take? Thank you, and Good Job!!
would you want to add the baby highs and low to your natural 6" gray growth or just on the ends? if just on the ends, it wont mess up anything... if on the natural 6" any highlights will turn the grey more of a blonde rather than what it is right now.... and you might feel like you need to do the lowlights often because you will see them grow out from the roots. personally i would not do any highlights or low lights to your natural 6". but i see no harm in messing around with the bottom part. just be careful with highlights, use a low developer and keep an eye on them, you don't want to damage your ends. hope this helps!! good luck!
Thank you Erika for the suggestions. I think I'm just going to leave out all the high and low lights and just use a solid demi until my hair is all gray, then hopefully, lol fingers crossed, the gray will add it's own natural highs and lows to break it up some.
the customer talked the entire time, how are hair dressers not distracted by that
lol i appreciate you noticing. you definitely get used to it as a hair dresser, plus this "customer" is my mom, so i am VERY used to it. haha!
Love how nasty and messy women are at heart 🤦🏻♀️. So many opinions on here telling this woman what she did wrong and what she needs to do. STAY IN YOUR LANE! Mind your business because this woman has got this! If she wanted your negative feedback she would had asked for suggestions. This is why men can’t stand women except for getting one thing !
When you post publicly online expect feedback. As a hairstylist myself I can say that most the feedback she’s getting is correct. Also your comment about men not standing women basically because they have opinions is toxic as fuck and you need to work on yourself girl.
lmaoooo everyone is an expert at giving opinions but no one successfully does the work.. am i right?
To be a pro-stylist is to be both a scientist and an artist. HOW one chooses to get to a result is the art of our profession. Not sure enough people understand this.
Hi, how long did you keep the foils on? Thanks!
Everyone is different. Everyone's hair processes at different rates. Keep an eye on the first foil. Be sure to check the foils often.
Hi, what happens to the white hairs that you left out when weaving?
they blend with the blonde highlights
@@ErikawithaK ty❤️
It looks so yellow but nice explanation
thank you so much for your kind comment. I hope you continue to make the world a better place! xo
Erika with a K sorry, I didn’t mean my comment to be hurtful.
Your not showing the full picture at the beginning. Your camera is not showing the foil being pulled up on the bang area for your demonstration.
thanks!
Great
:)
The yellow is still there 😞
she is allergic to color. i cannot tone her.
I would like for you to do my hair
you're so kind!
I went on this to get advice on highlighting dark hair with silver, and what did I see a lady with obviously colored hair light colored hair.
Great comment, thanks for sharing.
I thought this was from dark hair to a grey?
it's called grey blending for dark hair with grey.... its a video about blending her natural grey color by using highlights.
Hello! I am allergic to hair dye. Is there a product that i can use to cover gray hair? In the last year, my hair has been slowing turning gray. My hair is a very dark brown color. I used a ppd free dye and it still irritated my scalp. I’m not ready to go all out gray just yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
hii thank you for watching and for your comment. I do not know of a brand that covers grey and does not cause some kind of reaction.. but if and when i do i promise to broadcast it so everyone with a hair color allergy can rest easier!
Have you tried henna?
Megan6772 Hello 👋 No, I have not tried Henna. I will need to investigate it further. Thank you for the suggestion!
@@puregrace8 no problem, I'm also dark brown with grays (silver)...pure henna is red but if its mixed w indigo (black) , they also call this hendigo, you get shades of brown...check out Light Mountain Henna :) good luck!
Hey I know I'm late but hennas from LUSH are fabulous products for red heads and brunettes
She turned blonde - I dont understand why its titled "for dark hair with grey"
because she has dark hair with grey.
Do you put bleach on the grey!!!???
depends on the look we're going for. sometimes yes.
could you have done some kind of color on the root to cover even more gray?
yes but my client in this video is allergic to color so i could not do anything but highlights. could not tone either.
Why are you hitting so much of her already colored blonde hair again with the new color
to re-lighten since i cant tone because she is allergic. color gets very yellow
I wish you had stayed longer on the shot of what the right color is while lightener was still on to see how light you need to take it before the rinse/ completion. UGH!
It's probably too late to mention this but I think at 9 minutes and 10 seconds in this video it shows the hairdresser taking the foil off and what colour the hair is supposed to be at that point. I think that's what it is anyway. I'm just about to try this. Did you try it?
thanks!
You did not really show her final result with her whole face in it! So we could not see how it went.
it went really well.
Would have been helpful to see the client's face so we get the big picture.
thanks for the tip!
Still looks/can see the gray in the end
Yes that's exactly what grey blending does.
What toner did you use after words?
No toner was used. She is allergic to color.
Her hair was dyed already I was expecting dark hair
We were blending grey..
Dark hair? I didn't see the video 🤔🤔🤔🤔
im not sure what the question is.
Can't see the head
it usually takes 9 months
Looks super great!
thank you so much!!
She got a lot of breakage! Encourage her to embrace her natural blended greys .. she isn’t that bad at all.. from what I can perceive she is greying blended.
i'll let her know your thoughts on her hair...
Should have toned the hair more ashy . Those high lights are way to yellow
shes allergic to color. toning would be deadly.
That needs some toner or shimmer lights something is doesn't blend
thanks!
The foil placement she’s doing aren’t that great at all
Hi! You can direct your comments at me. No need to speak about me on my video, kinda weird. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
That’s not grey blending it’s a blonde highlight. Would look much better toned. I would never start in the front. Technique was very beauty School basic and wrong on a few levels.
shes allergic to color therefore I cannot tone. its grey blending. enjoy the rest of your day trolling videos!
