Thanks for sharing your DITL using GR. We are on a second unit study. We dove into Indigenous Peoples over the Summer to get our feet wet. We are now half way through NAB, and my kiddos are loving it. Enjoy your channel, thanks again for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your DITL! I love a couple of your tips; modeling note taking for my older kids, doing the sheets together, but breaking off with a picture book with my youngest, and noting the rabbit trails to return to later. Soooo helpful!
This is BY FAR the BEST Gather Round DITL video!!! I got SO many great ideas from watching this. You are brilliant in organizing and managing these units with your children. I LOVE how you broke down the lesson and pages and had everyone working together at the table on the same pages!! And rabbit trail time after lunch and notebooks are done is absolutely genius. This restores hope to me that maybe, just maybe, I will be able to incorporate some Gather Round units in the future to our homeschool. Sadly, I have run in to many problems and issues with GR that I just gave up trying to make it work for us, even though I LOVE this curriculum. So thank you thank you thank you for this!!! Please do keep doing videos like this one. I feel like Gather Round is almost too open ended/flexible for Type A homeschool moms like me and you have knocked it out of the park on how to implement this curriculum! I do have a couple questions. How many days a week do you do Gather Round? On Gather Round days do your kids do their non-Gather Round LA and math curriculums? This is one of my BIG obstacles in doing GR. I do not want to do the Gather Round LA with my kids and I find doing GR on top of their LA and math curriculums outside of GR (Masterbooks) overwhelms my kids. My kids do have special needs/learning challenges though, so maybe this is why I haven’t been able to make it work. I wish I could chat with you over a cup of coffee in real life and have you help me figure this out. I’ve been trying since January to make GR work for us and gave up at the beginning of this school year. ☹️ The quality of your videos is phenomenal. Thank you again for this. I’m going to watch it again and take notes. 😀
Thank you!!!!! We do GR 3-4 days per week and also do some of our other curriculum as well on those days. I’m thinking about doing a video devoted to how I schedule our days (although this changes frequently- so stayed tuned!). Also I would love to chat sometime! Shoot me an email and maybe we can try to set up a phone convo sometime!
This is my 1st year homeschooling my 10 yr old and 4 yr old and although I love having them home and teaching them I am struggling. I found my oldest is so behind on grammer and I am in need of help. This is all new to me, but I most likely will need to supplement LA for him. I love your day in the life and pray one day I will be able to achieve this.
Ugh the first year homeschooling is equal parts joy & struggle! Everything is new, fun, & special... but often so so so difficult! I’m sorry that you’re struggling. I’ve definitely been there (actually a lot of the time I feel like we’re battling with one child or one subject!). I try to focus on their progress, even when it’s the tiniest of baby steps of improvement! As far as grammar we have loved using First Language Lessons and Fix It! Grammar through the years. Although there are so many great curriculum choices out there. Thanks so much for watching! And please feel free to email me if you ever need to just chat homeschool life.
What a wonderful video!! I have almost 11 and 13!year old girls and struggled a bit through the planets units. We are fixing to do Oceans and this is so helpful. We also do a different LA and I’ve put so much pressure on myself to incorporate both. Watching you just cross out that page was what I needed. Curious what LA you use in your homeschool and how you fit it in. Thank you for sharing this!!
Thank you! I posted videos a couple weeks ago outlining all of the curriculum I use with each of my kids. But short answer is IEW and Spelling You See with my olders.
Thanks for sharing! I love Gather Round. I like your approach to group note booking as my middle schooler is struggling to learn how to take notes, research independently, etc. We also supplement with other curriculum. When do you fit that in? I’m struggling to fit everything in with each of my four children without exhausting them, or myself. 😄
I am thinking about doing a video this fall devoted to what a full homeschool day or week looks like for us... how we fit in our other curriculum. The short answer is that we don’t do GR daily and are flexible/creative with how we use our other curriculum. If you are feeling overwhelmed or exhausted I would definitely encourage you to consider a looping schedule for some of your other subjects if you aren’t already. This definitely has helped me to take the pressure off and not feel like I have to check off every subject every day.
My hubby is justin too;) Thanks for sharing what gather round is like with tiny kids. I have an 18 month old and a 3 year old and am a little scared for our first year homeschooling my 7 and 9 year old. This helped me tho. It can be done! 💜
Ohhhh thats a great tip I think I'll get some read aloud in at bfast or snack, etc My youngest seems to have difficulty getting through the full "reading" lesson of GR...he sits for a bit and then moves along onto some busy work, whether its lego/sand/quiet play...im still reading tho for his brothers, hopin he's catching any tid bits...and YES his little hands can't handle all that writing...so i just don't make him write it all GREAT video!!! Thank you
I’m planning to make a video devoted to our current homeschool schedule/routine soon. Short answer is that we normally do math before breakfast and our LA after GR/in the afternoon. We only do GR 3-4 days per week, so it gives us flexibility with our other curriculum.
Thank you, appreciate this video! Do you do Gather Round every day? I have my 7th grader doing more, so just curious how your week looks...thank you!!!
Yes. GR provides a suggested reading list to go along with each unit. I normally pick a book from the middle or high school list to use as a read aloud.
2.5 hours is just for gather round, that does not include our other curriculum like math, etc. I am an early riser, so on days when I eat breakfast I eat early before the kids. But honestly, most days I just drink coffee and water until lunch time.
YESSSS...im only a week in and there's no way I could get any "extras" in or videos in DURING the lesson....i would surely lose them!! vids are allowed if they want tv time....and they've been receptive to that
@@joepotter106 No I didn't do one on Asia (I was just getting my channel started back then), but I am hoping to get my Plan & Prep Africa video posted in November!
Thank you for sharing 😊
This was amazing to see someone's day using gather round!
So glad it was helpful! Now that’s we’ve been at it a while I’m realizing our days change a little with each unit.

Everyday Homeschooler seriously?! I would LOVE that! 😀
I would also love a video on how you schedule!
I just discovered your channel and I love it!! Homeschool mom to 5 - ages 14 down to 5. Thanks for being so quick and to the point 🙌
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing. I love seeing how others do Gather Round.
Absolutely ☺️
Enjoyed watching this again ☕️

Isn’t it amazing how much they take in when we think they’re not listening! Thanks for watching!
We just moved onto Africa! When do you do math and supplement for ELA? I love your notecard idea we will be stealing that!
I’m planning to make a video devoted to our current homeschool schedule/routine soon. Short answer is that we normally do math before breakfast and our LA after GR/in the afternoon. We only do GR 3-4 days per week, so it gives us flexibility with our other curriculum.

We only do GR 3-4 days per week. I am thinking about creating a video this fall devoted to what a full homeschool day or maybe even a week looks like🤔
How do you pick your read alouds? Do they go with GR?
Yes. GR provides a suggested reading list to go along with each unit. I normally pick a book from the middle or high school list to use as a read aloud.
Do you have your space planning video?
Sadly no. I started this channel after we finished that unit.
Does the 2.5 hours include time for math and your other LA? Do you eat breakfast at another time or skip it altogether?
2.5 hours is just for gather round, that does not include our other curriculum like math, etc. I am an early riser, so on days when I eat breakfast I eat early before the kids. But honestly, most days I just drink coffee and water until lunch time.

Do you plan to do the continent unit studies?
We did Asia last year and are working on Africa now. I don’t think we will do all of them - but we’ll see.
@@EverydayHomeschooler Did you do a video on Asia and will you do one of Africa?
