For many many years I have been a great believer it traditional Chinese medicine. Not just acupuncture. If it's been going for 3000 years there must be something to it. I had eczema on my leg and tried all the creams my doctor prescribed to no avail. Then I tried a Chinese remedy. It disappeared completely within a week and has not come back. That was eight years ago.

And yet you do not have the brain capacity or logic to question this myth, this assumption, to look at the details behind it.

Yeah wow, I guess you'll be drinking snake's blood and eating horns next?
One particular treatment, which was effective for you personally but may not be supported in clinical trails was effective. Great. That doesn't make all of TCM true.

She actually has a quite accurate description of what "Qi" really means. No, it's not an energy, nor a field, nor a force. It is perhaps at best described as a pattern. One analogy would be with economy. There isn't a physical thing that constitutes economic boom or recession, but a pattern of the entire system.

Thank you, Charmian! I have to say that this is one of the best motivational ted talks I have seen. You had to choose the majority in traditional medicine it's definitely a tough choice on this day in Western, you don't care about the other assessment, critics, you see the power of Traditional medicine and you protect ít and bring the pure quality to treatment. You also point out 2 different features such as the art is all your patient not only by this disease, the second is ego in western medicine may keep the patient far away to them, we can be lost the physical interaction and mindful connection to them so many cases can't cure efficiently. Thank you! Good luck!

I am an acupuncturist with a science education background. There very much IS a strong understanding of how acupuncture works on a biomedical, scientific basis, and the information we have is on par with other biological science disciplines in terms of our complex depth of understanding and how much we have yet to learn. Please, stop perpetuating the idea that we don't know how acupuncture works! We may not understand fully how it works on all the levels (spiritual/mental/physical planes), but on the physical level, we do have some idea. Name one scientific discipline that "knows it all" about how their discipline works and I will hand you a gold apple that you can eat. By the way, her speech IS beautiful ~ I love the idea of patterns.

@@SLVperso its inevitable that some tcm practice will be effective 3000 years of trial and error will definitely produce some result base on sheer math alone but the problem is that even when there treatment work people who practice them don't actually understand why it works there really no data or evidence base treatment and alot of tcm are just outright placebo or worst damaging scams in fact alot of the ointment tcm and even ancient civilization like romans have been proven effective on certain application by science base medicine but the fact that it was effective is purely do to mass trial and era there are certain things like acupuncture that for some reason seem to work on clinical trials on pain relief but base on what we know so far of the human anatomy and nervous system it should not be as effective as it is im sure one day science will be able to explain why it works as of today the scientific medical world barely understand how our bodies actually work.

My nephew's urticaria was 100% cured by TCM(Tradtional Chinese Medicine). He's been cured of it for 3 years now. From what I've read of conventional western medical treatment of urticaria, they would have him on daily Zyrtec pills. In a few years it would fail, then he would take monthly Xolair shots, then that would fail and he would end up in ER and given Prednisone steroid shots, but that would eventually fail too. I'm so glad we tried TCM. It only took two months and only $170 with TCM.
But TCM has its flaws. It needs to undergo scientific studies and become standardize and regulated. Luckily it seems there are numerous studies on many aspects of TCM going on right now and some are getting accepted.

Yes with years of experience these prescriptions does have weight and lot of sucessful cures , but still this is very unethical. How one earth can you know someone well in five minutes. I recommended at least 15-20 minutes with a new patient and another pre consultation of atleasst 20 with a Homeopath's assistant for teh summary of the case. This is a viable approach in terms of money as well as time for homeopathic practioners.
But Indian homeopaths see more than 80 patients a day. This is outraegous and give homeopaths are very bad reputation.

The biggest evidence for the effectiveness of Chinese medicine that anybody can observe I think is that the country with the biggest population whether now or in ancient times relies on this medical system for the most of its history. If it doesn't work, there wouldn't be so many people then. It's a system based on 3000 years of experience. Some rationale is there and working even the current science can't explain for now. And I think one reason for the lack of CURRENT science base of Chinese medicine is the lack of interest and real research which costs.

Trying not to be dark but the life expectancy in China has increased by two fold since the 1960's when it got access to western medicines like anti antibiotics. In the 1960's it was sadly about 41 when in the west it was 79-80. Now it's around 76 in China, still well behind the west. My great great grandma told me stories that the severed hand of a poacher has a 100 times more magic than a Tiger bone so it must be true. You must hunt him for days, wear him down, then beat him with a stick so he dies slowly to get this magic.
