    Just wanted to clarify that for the Eduarian fashion, it wasn’t that people were that much smaller it’s that people wore their clothes out so the sizes that would fit us today are not in circulation due to degradation of quality! The things that are circulating I’ve heard are often from younger women and children, worn for less time, so they’re in good enough condition to resell. I think it’s important to clarify in our size obsessed culture :)

      yessss thank you! small pieces like those were worn by young young women/girls, for a short period of time and only a small portion of society could wear such things, preserving them. larger pieces could be handed down, and/or were repurposed. and also those are corset covers so they would have been worn OVER shapewear, as underwear, so their bodies were already altered somewhat once they were wearing these pieces.

      Interesting!! A new topic for me to deep dive 🧐😎

      often times too they were the sample models meant for display. Often they were smaller to save on material, rather than conform to the beauty standard. Though particularly for shoes: the petite floor models also morphed into a desireable size for their delicateness and "femininity".

      Never thought of this before. So interesting on many levels!

    The small sizing on Edwardian and Victorian clothing isn’t actually because everyone was tiny! Bernadette Banner has a great video explaining why so many of the garments we find today are tiny-basically it’s because these tiny surviving garments would fit less people, hence getting worn less and by less people, and surviving to today. Larger garments would fit a wider range of body types across the years, get more worn out and recycled into other ther garments, and 100 years later not be as pristine or easily found 😌

    The clothes seem smaller but it’s because those were the less worn clothes because not many people fit them. That’s why there’s so many vtg pieces in rlly tiny sizes.

    Its probably since i grew up in a european country with castles and chateaux on every step and was fed history on every other school and family trip, but I find this american casual semi-fantasy approach to history fascinating. Including Renaissance fairs .. with turkey legs. Even the way you throw around regency, victorian, edwardian blending 100+ years into this general fun idea of history inspired fashion. When i see that edwardian 'top', my brain goes directly to how confused and horrified would the original owner be by people running round the streets in her underwear 😂

      i guess i just don’t think it’s that deep lol the way i talk about that era is strictly influenced by pop culture and media-Bridgerton, the great, etc

      @@michaeladicksonthat was actually a super funny answer because Bridgerton is 1800s and Edwardian is 1900s ❤ but I understand that people don’t know that and honestly the 1800s were the first century were fashion rapidly changed from decade to decade and sometimes even less than that. If you wanna find those items you can look for underskirts, petticoats, bloomers, chemises and corset covers 💜 I have made some my own but I also inherited some from old ladies and fleamarkets often sell them for cheap

    • @michaeladickson
      @michaeladickson  25 днів тому +3

      I know that Bridgerton was the 1800s and Edwardian was 1900s! 😂😭 but in tv and movies it’s all the same kind of costuming - over the top frills and ribbons

      Maybe bc this way is more fun and actually being alive back then was hellish and therefore historically accurate adaptations / recreations are also hellish 🤣

    Your 1D story was so relatable. In middle school, I was a huge Justin Beiber fan. I had a few shirts that my parents got me, but I refused to wear them to school because I didn't want to be one of "those girls," which looking back, was so stupid. I wish I would have just worn what I wanted.

    I’m a Doen girlie from way back, but buyer beware that their white cotton voile like the top you showed is so sheer that you look naked. It’s a consideration if you’re not interested in paying hundreds of dollars to be naked on the street 😂

    tbh i would buy the pickleball bag if i was actually into pickleball, like yes it’s overpriced as a bag for a paddle butttttt it’s real leather and how slay would it be to use that as a regular purse?

    Woah, got serious whiplash from all that time travel you're doing - in the space of 30 seconds you've gone from medieval period (Renaissance fairs) to Bridgerton (set in the early 1800s) to Victorian (1837-1901) to Edwardian (1901-10) - for the love of all things historical, what are they teaching people in school these days!? These eras are not interchangeable.
