Yes Volvo would like you too drive in A mode so you use the brakes more often and have to buy more brake pads from them. If you use your exhaust brake and gears to slow down, the less you have to apply the foot brake

Auto Wheel Brake in A uses the exhaust brake as much as possible when you use the brake pedal, pads are filling in during shift to keep the speed in check.

Faster shifts and more engine revs in both. HD pack adapts to 300t GCVW vs 100t in the regular modes.
