This sounds really good. I love mysteries I will have to check this out. Wonderful review!

I know that problem. I don't even want to know what kind of gems are hiding in my TBR pile!
I've never heard of the man before and was surprised to read about his other writing. But I like those, too, so yay :)

This books seems to have a vintage feel to it which is kind of neat. Story sounds intriguing too. Not sure I'll be picking it up since I'm already working on quite a few series. Ugh!

I was drawn to the vintage look. So easily persuaded (and there's a skull on the cover;)
It's a series like the Robert Langdon series I think. No cliffhanger at the end and a finished story.

Ok I'll keep that in mind.

This sounds really interesting and if its by the same Mark Gatiss I'm thinking of then it can't be bad!

I've read this! And I enjoyed it very much. Oddly, I came across it back when it was first released and didn't buy it, only to stumble over it and purchase it about three years ago with no memory of my original interest in it until I started reading the book.
I love the Lucifer Box character--I found him quite amusing.
Sadly my version isn't laid out like yours! No doubt our American publishers thought two columns was too strange for us. I do have the other two books, but haven't read them yet.

Haha, that happened to me before too. I think his character is the best about the novel. So refreshing unique!

I ask myself that everytime I pick up a book. The good thing is you don't have to read the series, if you don't want to. This book introduced the characters and solved the mystery. So no cliffhanger that forces you to run out to the next book.

There is no cliffhanger. The story is finished. I think the next novel will be him dealing with another mystery. I have to wait to read the next in the series too. But that's okay. This book introduces the characters and the setting and I think that's all you need if you want to continue the series. But the problem/story is finished in this book. Go for it :)

It's not totally overwhelming, but a fun read with some quirky ideas. It is only 250 pages if that helps ;)
I think you might like it. Borrow it from your friend, then you don't waste money if you don't like it.

I own the book, although I haven't read it-a far too common occurrence with me. I do know that Gatiss is both a writer (and creator) for Sherlock and for Doctor Who as well. Also an actor in a lot of BBC fare.

Still not sure whether I should read this... I discovered this book through my friend, who is a huge Mark Gatiss and Sherlock fangirl, so yeah, I've known about it for a while. But all of the reviews I've heard were really mixed, so I'm just not sure. I do love the way it looks, though :)

i love the lay-out! story sounds fun as well :)
is there -sort of- an ending to the story or do you really need to read the other books as well?
i really want to read it, but i don't really want to start another series..

No, I wouldn't say. Nothing out of this world, just normal turn of the century life with some surprises, but nothing like The Eyre Affaire.

It looks so cool!!! I'm definitely adding it to my tbr, is it a bit like the eyre affair do you think? Or not (reading that book right now and I'm loving it)... I usually don't read those kind of books, but it's always nice to try out something new :)
