Yes that was Hank Sr., Hank Jr was only 3 when his dad died but this song was found in the attic of a place Hank Sr owned in the 80s. So Hank Jr decided to record the song and they were able to digitally master this video.
It was actually found in Bill Lister's house. Hank wrote the song for him one night at during a recording session. Bill found the original years later in his attic
Does anybody else get fairly emotional the 1st time we actually see Hank senior and then Hank junior gives that little smile? I have never Witnessed anybody that I can remember that is more proud of their father than Hank junior is. He talks about his dad in damn near every single one of his songs.
The video of Hank Sr that they used was from one of his two TV appearances in 1952 on the Kate Smith Show, roughly 8 months before he passed. In that performance, he was actually singing his hit song called "Hey Good Lookin", but they edited his mouth to make it look like he was singing this song. Back when this kind of editing was new.
You said this presentation is dope...friend you have NO idea just how right you are. The Hank Sr. portion was shot in the early 1950s, then disappeared until this video was done. And the country music world loved it.
Hank wrote this song for Bill Lister who recorded it, but it didn't go anywhere. The acetate demo disk remained in Bill Lister's attic in San Antonio Texas for 40 years until it was given to Hank Jr. who recorded with it and added some video clips and mastered himself into the video clips to make the video. It won Academy of Country Music Awards (1990) Country Music Video of the Year Award CMA Awards - Country Music Association (1989) Music Video of the Year and was nominated for a Grammy Award (1990) Best Music Video/ short film .
I am so glad that you watched this and that you know enough of the history of Hank Sr. and Jr. that you could appreciate the miracle of technology. Your reaction was absolutely spot on!
I saw an interview with Jr one time talking about this video and how special it was. He said it would be the closest he would ever get to playing with his dad.
I think they done an awesome job putting this together, I know it meant the world to Jr. Great Job, Thanks AB for your reaction, hope you have a blessed evening 🙏 sending love from Lafayette Georgia 🙏 🍑
I don't know who did it first but I know that Natalie Cole did something like this with her father Nat King Cole. I think they did his song Unforgettable. Lisa Marie Presley also did one with her father Elvis. I don't remember what song she did.
Hank Sr only had a few TV performances before he passed. There's an 8½ minute compilation of all of his raw live performances on UA-cam labeled "Hank Williams-Kate Smith Shows March & April 1952" uploaded by Earl Martin. Highly recommend it. It's the best quality upload of his performances that I've found.. All of the songs in it are songs he wrote. A young June Carter (Johnny Cash's future wife) even introduces him and her sister, Anita Carter, to do a duet.
3:08 It was a big hit in part because of those reasons. Hank Jr even tried to somewhat replicate the success of this later with his son Hank III, when they recorded an album that featured all three of them singing Hank Sr songs. Hank Sr and Hank III sounded so much alike on that album, it's kinda trippy. He even looks so much like Sr as well. They didn't record any music videos for that album though.
Has anyone suggested Billy Currington with his songs "People Are Crazy," "Good Directions," and "Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right" yet? Because he's a great artist and he needs a listen!!
The first tribute duet was Natalie Cole singing "Unforgettable" with her late father, Nat King Cole. The tears flowed at my family's home and everywhere. This technology is such a gift it almost makes up for the demonic creation of autotune...almost.
I have fond memories of this song. In college, we would go to a dive bar where where this song was played over and over on jukebox. Good memories. The hank Sr. Version
@Nicole Jewell 😆 Hazzard hottie, I like it ;-) I met him ('Bo') and 'Daisy' when I was little, bout '79-80ish. Come to think of it, I need to find those pics & show my daughters, they'll get a kick outta that lol
The only other person I've seen this done with is Nat King Cole with Natalie Cole his daughter. Same kind of situation though I do believe Natalie was a little older when her dad died. The Williams clan has given us lots of great music. Enjoy
AB: for another tribute video you should do Celine Dion & Elvis Presley "If I Can Dream". It was an actual live performance on American Idol years ago. They used holographic technology to splice in Elvis' 1968 performance. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/p1HtPG6eMIo/v-deo.html

Yep that's his father and nice tribute in the video to one of the best songs of all-time.
Through modern technology, Hank Williams, Jr. got to sing a duet with his dad. His dad passed away January 1, 1953. I think Hank, Jr. was 4 years old.
Yeah he was almost 4 years old.
There is also a song where Hank, Hank Jr, and Hank 3rd all sing. The title is I'll never get out of this world alive. Good song.
Love that whole album
Another good one of all 3 is 'Honky Tonk Blues"
There's also one where Hank Sr and Hank III sing together.. I think it's "Moaning the Blues".
Trippy hearing them both on that album.
Hey thanks,I would love to hear this. Going to look it up right now.😊❤
I forgot about that video.. awesome 😄🤗
I loved your reaction to this!!!

AB, I am so glad you did this one. I requested this a long time ago. Thank you 😊 💓
It won video of the year
I got tears in my ears from laying on my back crying over you...
Video of the year. One of the best music videos of all time.

Hank Williams never wanted this song released to the public because of his drinking problem s

his buddy release.
This won video of the year at both the CMA and ACM awards. Also shared a Grammy for vocal collaboration of the year in 1990.
dont really care for jr or III but seeing/hearing the son and the father og. absolutely awesome.
Loved this!❤

This was done in 1989 later in 1991 Natalie Cole decided to do Unforgettable with her dad. It's awesome too
Yes that’s Hank Williams Sr :) that is awesome the way they did this video😮 Great Reaction, as usual 🎉
They also did this with Elvis and his daughter Lisa Marie Presley. Check out the songs, Don't cry Daddy, In the ghetto and Where Noone stands alone.
Love them both. Hank Sr passed at 29 years old
I think that was the video event of the year that year
I don't know who did it first but I know that Natalie Cole did something like this with her father Nat King Cole. I think they did his song Unforgettable. Lisa Marie Presley also did one with her father Elvis. I don't remember what song she did.
Hank Jr did it first. He did 2 full albums with Sr in the 60's titled Father and Son, then Father and Son Again
@@garygoodman4342 Thanks for the info. Appreciate it.
I was going to make the same comment. "Unforgetable" by Nat and Natalie was awesome.
@@kenhayhurst374 Yeah, that was one that really stuck with me.
I know Lisa Marie did Don't Cry Daddy with a video of Elvis.
You need to hear Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole singing "Unforgettable" together! It's fantastic.

Wish more people reacted to that specific compilation.
Hank Jr developed this video treatment. Natalie Cole used also. Great reaction.

Keeping it I n the family.
That was cool!
Love it! Best father-son team since the Earnhardts! ❤️🔥 Can i get a witness somebody!? 🖐
I have fond memories of this song.
In college, we would go to a dive bar where where this song was played over and over on jukebox. Good memories. The hank Sr. Version
This was a first, think what they could do today
Natalie Cole did the same thing with her dad Nat King Cole for the his song Unforgettable
Mr. Weatherman - play this one! It’s my favorite!
That was killer, never seen that one
That is Hank Sr. voice but that is Hank the 3rd in the picture frame.
Cut down from the original title, 'There's a Tear in My Ear from Lyin' on My Back and Cryin' in My Pillow Over You.'
One of my all time favorite songs and video. Can you react to John Schneider wherever she is, please?
Bo Duke! ❤😉

should check out elvis and his daughter video she did this way ,, in the ghetto is the song and daddy something
They used the same technology when they did Forest gump. You should do 'Come on over to the Country'
Lisa Marie presley has some songs that she sings with her dad, Elvis.
If you really listen to some parts of this song, you can actally hear the old hissing of the old recording
I don't think the image in the door is actually his dad but the voice is all Hank Sr.
Not the silouette of course.
That was kool
Lisa Marie Presley did the same thing by recording with her dad Elvis.
Toby Keith “drunk Americans”
Try listening to The Three Hanks!!!!
Lisa Marie did one with her dad ELVIS
👍
👍👍
This was such a priceless performance for Hank Williams, Jr. to be able to sing on a music video with his dad! Love it! 🤗🎸❤🤠
Can you react to hank Williams jr man of steel

It was the equivalent of the hologram Tupac
Done way before AI!!!!
Just think, they did all that without AI
Natalie Cole did similar video with her dad Nat King Cole.
And you ain’t heard about Hank III have ya?!
You need to check this song out done by all THREE HANKS
