Thank you Sir, this vid is very much appreciated. I'm a medically retired custom knife maker., and being disabled and on a very small in come mow days I tried a florigen (chinese) clone first to see if I would enjoy it. Well, I did and looked long and hard at the Kadet Pro and the Hapstone RS. The Rs ended p winning out mostly due to the way the rid is set up. No hitting things on the back of my bench as there is no rod that comes out of the back. of the support. I already have quite a few Venev stones both full size bench stones and 4 and 6x1" inch stones here as well. I've already learned a few tricks that I've not seen mentioned by anyone. One, the diamond lapping fluid by Trend keeps the stones from loading at all. Well, excet the Columbia Gorge stones. They are a pita. Money wasted for my use. More importantly, a quick way to obtain a full mirrored edge with the 800 grit Venev stones on the sharpeners. Once the angle is set and the 800 grit stone is finished, rather than the forward to rearward strokes, change the movement of the stone left to right with no pressure with the stone dry. No water of fluid at all. The stone will quickly load and impart a full ultra bright mirror finish. I then raise the angle one degree and use the norman strokes very lightly to impart the mico teeth for good bite. If I use a strop at all, only one or two strokes very lightly with 1 micro. Any more and the micro teeth are compromised and the aggressive bite is minimized. KnifeMaker, Retired after 47 years in the Shop.
Thanks Stassa23 ‼️ I've been freehand sharpening for years but an old back injury no longer allows me to do it for long. I've been bouncing around and researching these systems for a year or more. I respect and appreciate your insight as someone apart of the community. Always enjoy your work, hope you're well. Take care. 👍👍🔪
Thanks Jeff I definitely put a lot into the video and I wanted to really let everyone who may deal with the issues that I deal with see why I chose the TSprof. I really appreciate your support and your feedback 🍻🍻
I've had a KME and currently have the K03. The KME is a very capable sharpener, but I struggled with the angle adjustment and the clamp system didn't fill me with confidence. The K03 is at a different level in terms of design and build quality. It's much more precise than the KME. Gritomatic sells L-Adapters for the K03 than allow the clamps to fit flush against each other without putting them on one side of the center line. You can also reverse the adapters if you need increased distance between the clamps.
Wow thanks Nate I definitely put a lot of work into it and sharpened a lot of blades with each of them before I did my review so I was hoping that I was able to get my point across, sometimes I think I wasn’t clear enough with my opinions. Thanks for your support and feedback I really appreciate it 🍻🍻
@Stassa23 no you were very clear and threw in some tips and tricks. You've had experience with most of the sharpeners out there and to hear that this is the best is exactly what I needed to hear. Jerad obviously does good with sharpening stuff but this was the most clear and well thought out review for sure. Idk man, like I said, you're a knife guys knife guy. You aren't trying to sell anything or push products like most reviewers do...and I get it....but you are actually telling us what we need to know with no BS. Awesome video Stassa!! Yes pls on the sharpening videos. And it would be awesome if you could show how you store your collection. Love all your videos.
Nice tutorial. KME is a decent system, but it needs a refresh to address clamp stability, stone thickness compensation, and multi length- 6” -stone usage. Kadet pro is kick ass. `
Awesome content, been watching you for a long while now, very detailed and down to earth 👍🏻Should I get this or spend the extra coin for K03? I don’t want to do something and feel like I could have spent a bit more and got a lot more or I also don’t want to spend more if people are like all you really need is the Kadet, and add a digi level and maybe some resin diamond stones.
I currently have a KME and I have been considering a Kadet Pro for a while now. This really makes me wanna take the plunge, but my wallet doesn't agree. I've already sunk some money into extras for the KME, and I'd be doing the same all over again for some of those items again with the Kadet Pro. Great video though, certainly appreciate the perspective and the pluses/minuses compared to other systems!
KME has recently released a new system that runs 6" stones. Cool thing with it is that you can use all your extras from your OG KME on the new system. It can run 1x4 up to 1x6 stones, strops, etc.
this is the best sharpening system for professional sharpening of any knives or for commercial sharpening if you make money from it; it works best in conjunction with Venev Industrial Diamonds abrasives!
Why do you have the two clamps at different depths on the blade? Why would you not clamp the blade near the back, evenly (so the blade is straight across)? I would REALLY like to know. I’ve only used the Precision Adjust and the Professional Precision adjust systems, and I’m thinking about this system. Thank you! ;-}. MM
I have this setup and love it. But I do not like the diamond stones it comes with. I use gritomatic whetstones instead. May move to Shapton pro in the future. Also, the wooden ball handle on mine has fallen off. I have glued it back on several times now, but it won’t stay on. I think I’ll drill it out and insert a small roll pin.
I have all the sharpeners mentioned except the wicked edge. And I agree the ts prof is better BUT kme's abrasives are outstanding! BUT ts prof is awsome!
I have had a KME for yers now, but more often than not, I do freehand instead. I just decided to upgrade. The black friday sale was awesome, but I waited tolong and the pro sold out, so I bought the Kadet Nero instead. Not much of a difference. Can't wait till it gets here. The KME works fine, but it's only takes 4" stones. I have 4" Venev stones, but it looks like I'll be buying a set of 6" now
I have a KME with all the bells and whistles but I've been eying the kadet pro, saving my pennies for when I can justify it. I saw over on neeves the Xarilk gen 3, basically a Chinese kadet pro clone for $98 on amazon. Couldn't resist at that price, pleasantly surprised what a good system it is, the kadet pro is better but not $400 better. From the looks of the thing it can do everything that the kadet pro can do, the parts are even interchangeable. Even though it's a chinese knockoff it's a very good and accurate chinese knockoff. You may want to check it out for those of us who don't have enough pennies for the TSPROF. (rewatching your vid again for tips on how to use the bloody angle adjust and stone compensator since there aren't many vids on the system and it's basically identical)
I bought the xarlik gen3 love everything except the 1 - 2 degree difference when flipping knife. I broke down last night and bought the TSPROF Kadet pro version T. I hope it I don't have same issue with the TSPROF . The xarlik I had to keep messing with the lock screw for the jaws being to loose or to tight.
@@southside1975 Interesting, I haven't had any of those issues. You may have grit or build up in the tracks if you're getting that kind of deviation, mine has been spot on. I did notice a 2/100th variation after a few blades but it was back to true after I cleaned the tracks. For the jaw screws I use a torque screwdriver set to 25lbs, seems to work fine and won't damage the aluminum threads.
@@npenick66 I wipe them out The tension on the bolt with the spring changes when flipped. I adjust height on stone holder to make up for it. Trust me I wanted it to work out.
I agree TS prof looks like the best fixed angle system, but very $$. The Hapstone RS is comparable for $249. I haven’t tried either of them, but hope to one day.
I agree. The Hapstone appears to be a viable competitor amongst the rest. It’s the stones that can set you back a bit, if you choose high quality ones. But at least you can purchase the system for less money than the competition, and then you can always pick up different stones later on.
Can this system take other stones from different companies. I noticed your stones have a metal lip that goes into a groove. Can it clamp stones without that metal lip that are flat on the ends?
I bought the work sharp pro but I haven't used it yet cuz my knives stay sharp enough to just strop. I'm offering to sharpen for others just so I can try it out lol

Hi Stassa, First of all, I love, love your videos and value your comments on the various knife and equipment reviews! I myself purchased and use the TS Prof Kadet sharpener (Nero model)…. But I have a question about avoiding scraping the claps while sharpening my folding knives and your technique/method of sharpening…. 1. Can you tell me how you are able to avoid scraping the claps while sharpening?? Is there a technique or positioning the blade in the clamps to help me avoid scraping the claps?? 2. When sharpening the blade and as you go through the different stone grits, what is your method?? Example: do you apply the same amount of passes on each side of the blade for each grit or do you change the amount of passes and lessen the amount of passes as you go from lower to higher grits?? What is your approach/application to sharpening while going through the different grit stones?? Thank you for your advise! Regan, Hawaii
Filet clamps are thinner need to get a set of those or I put the stock clamps on the belt sander and took down the leading edge by a mil or 2. Basically whatever I needed to get a 15 degree on the blade.
