Hey, guys, did you know that in terms of Water-Types, Vaporeon's my favorite? It's a cat that's actually a liquid, and also a literal cat fish. Not only that, its Ability Water Absorb makes it the perfect Pokémon to cry into the shoulders of. Water Absorb also negates the downside of Surf if your other Pokémon uses it in a Double Battle. It evolves from Eevee, a very friendly Pokémon, so you can give it so many chin scritches.

Gardevoir was the first 3-stage evolution psychic type that didn't require a gimmick to evolve. It was balanced without being overpowered and had a focus on special attack which paired nicely with its psychic typing. You could catch a Ralts early on and because none of the starters had secondary psychic typing, the Ralts would provide type coverage and naturally become a core team member. Of course this pokemon was going to be good from a gameplay experience perspective. From a design perspective, Gardevoir is beautiful without becoming sexual and totally avoids the problems that later generations have with humanoid pokemon designs - namely that they look like dudes in a furry suit.

Tifa was like 3 polygons man and was definitely way more muscular and less feminine in the art of the time period. They just realised later around advent children that the tits sell more.

I feel your pain man. I loved Vaporeon growing up because I found out that I could make a really busted build by giving it leftovers and aqua ring, and EV training it split between def and SPDf. I used to have so much fun when my friends just couldn't kill it no matter what in battles. In all honesty, Takeshi Shudo was all sorts of fucked up in the head. A lot of my favorite Pokémon characters, places and the like are Hoenn-based, and I once read a theory that May's infamous “attributes” (one of, if not _the_ main reason she's one of the most sexualized characters in Pokémon history) were meant to still appeal to those same boys now that they were going through puberty. Rule 34 also made me dislike Blaziken, so there's that.

Vaporeon was my favorite Eevelution after I had one in Moon. She carried my team through so much of that playthrough. Completely understand where Jacob is coming from here

There is an easy mindset to adopt that will prevent this kind of misunderstanding: if you like the r34 version of a character, do not assume that other people who like that character like them in the same way. As long as the default assumption people make isn't "this person faps to this character", then there is no issue even if a sizable r34 community exists.
And for the otherside, do not get weirded out to the point of finding them "ruined" because other people actually find sexually attractive the characters that you like in a different way.

Growing up with the Gen 3 games, I've always had a liking to Gardevoir because of my fascination with ballroom dancing at the time. Its appearance resembling one of a ballroom gown was something I adored, and because of this, I saw Gardevoir as an extremely elegant and regal Pokemon!✨ Then I discovered the Internet.😐
Yeah I had a special place in my heart for Gardevoir because Kirlia is a ballerina, and I always saw Kirlia as the student and Gardevoir as the master.

It's funny because Gardevoir, Vaporeon, & Braixen are 3 of my favorite pokemon, Ankha & Whitney are two of my favorite Animal Crossing characters, Tifa was one of my two favorite FF7 characters when I was a kid, & my favorite story time animator is Jaiden.
Gardevior is just objectively one of the best pokemon to have. It's a Medieval Knight (literally called Sir Knight in japanese) crossed with a guardian Lovecraftian horror that might be mistaken for an angel, then crossed again with a ballerina dancer. It's devoted to protecting you in a world so dangerous you can't leave your house without a pokemon escort, it has a wide variety of offensive, defensive, and support moves. It's habitat is an URBAN environment so it's literally evolved to live in cities and around civilized areas, you don't have to worry about it smashing walls apart. And to top it all off these things hit harder than arceus.

I’m glad someone else sees the eldridge abomination aspect of Gardevoir, it was honestly one of the things that made them really cool to me, just the fact that it has a uniquely unnatural presence among other Pokémon due to its lore, yet it’s still a beautiful Pokémon that is genuinely loyal to their trainer.

Though again, I just don't see the Lovecraftian horror element, I see more Japanese Yokai elements as their mythology is full of dangerous but otherworldly beautiful looking women who are actually monsters capable of great harm. It's a common theme in Japanese folklore that if your wife is utterly gorgeous, a devoted housewife, gives you children, that they're probably a monster or spirit that's going to kill you the moment you break an absurd rule (or sometimes less absurd like infidelity).

I feel thissss, I grew up with Emerald (as the first one that I played with half a brain, rather than mashing A thru all of silver), and I caught a rare Pokémon early in the game! I caught Ralts, and stuck with it for the entire game, so Gardevoir was one of my favorites. Then I played Pearl, and I love bunnies. I caught a Buneary early on, and loved having a Lopunny… Also loved Ankha, she was one of my starting villagers in New Leaf, and I loved the Egyptian Aesthetic. Funny how that’s all worked out…
My favourite villiger was ankha too. I don't mind fan art depicting some (emphasis on some) villigers like that so much. Previous to NH she acted very full of herself, so i always made it out that she would partake in *that* as representation of her more egotistical persona (though not many peices are correctly illustrative of that, but they do exist). The problem is that there is a culture that has normalised the prevalence of such conversation, and made it so people assume that's the reason I like the character. Its so much worse for those that have a negative reaction to that kind of representation. People need to be emperthic to these people, but thats the Internet, i guess.
The ankha dance video was originally done by a person that made her look cuter than she normally is and the art style does make her look thiccer, and her dance too i guess, in it so naturally there would be other videos about that original video that make her not so appropriate. Gardevoir was the first 3-stage evolution psychic type that didn't require a gimmick to evolve. It was balanced without being overpowered and had a focus on special attack which paired nicely with its psychic typing. You could catch a Ralts early on and because none of the starters had secondary psychic typing, the Ralts would provide type coverage and naturally become a core team member. Of course this pokemon was going to be good from a gameplay experience perspective. From a design perspective, Gardevoir is beautiful without becoming sexual and totally avoids the problems that later generations have with humanoid pokemon designs - namely that they look like dudes in a furry suit.

In all honesty, Takeshi Shudo was all sorts of fucked up in the head. A lot of my favorite Pokémon characters, places and the like are Hoenn-based, and I once read a theory that May's infamous “attributes” (one of, if not _the_ main reason she's one of the most sexualized characters in Pokémon history) were meant to still appeal to those same boys now that they were going through puberty. Vaporeon was my favorite Eevelution after I had one in Moon. She carried my team through so much of that playthrough. Completely understand where Jacob is coming from here
Not only that I have been in love with so many video games and cartoons and then some guy in the internet found exposure to my personal favorites and ruined for me. Not only the internet but also my dad when I loved angry birds back in 2010 and he starts to annoy the living heck out of me. I wish that people would understand that stuff like this should be kept secretly and not getting through a lot of exposure to it. When I like something is fine and comfortable but when you share it with someone it is a total embarrassment through life
There is an easy mindset to adopt that will prevent this kind of misunderstanding: if you like the r34 version of a character, do not assume that other people who like that character like them in the same way.
As long as the default assumption people make isn't "this person faps to this character", then there is no issue even if a sizable r34 community exists.
And for the otherside, do not get weirded out to the point of finding them "ruined" because other people actually find sexually attractive the characters that you like in a different way.

Gardevior is just objectively one of the best pokemon to have. It's a Medieval Knight (literally called Sir Knight in japanese) crossed with a guardian Lovecraftian horror that might be mistaken for an angel, then crossed again with a ballerina dancer. It's devoted to protecting you in a world so dangerous you can't leave your house without a pokemon escort, it has a wide variety of offensive, defensive, and support moves. It's habitat is an URBAN environment so it's literally evolved to live in cities and around civilized areas, you don't have to worry about it smashing walls apart. And to top it all off these things hit harder than arceus.

I’m glad someone else sees the eldridge abomination aspect of Gardevoir, it was honestly one of the things that made them really cool to me, just the fact that it has a uniquely unnatural presence among other Pokémon due to its lore, yet it’s still a beautiful Pokémon that is genuinely loyal to their trainer.

Though again, I just don't see the Lovecraftian horror element, I see more Japanese Yokai elements as their mythology is full of dangerous but otherworldly beautiful looking women who are actually monsters capable of great harm. It's a common theme in Japanese folklore that if your wife is utterly gorgeous, a devoted housewife, gives you children, that they're probably a monster or spirit that's going to kill you the moment you break an absurd rule (or sometimes less absurd like infidelity).

I grew up with Emerald (as the first one that I played with half a brain, rather than mashing A thru all of silver), and I caught a rare Pokémon early in the game! I caught Ralts, and stuck with it for the entire game, so Gardevoir was one of my favorites.
Then I played Pearl, and I love bunnies. I caught a Buneary early on, and loved having a Lopunny…
Also loved Ankha, she was one of my starting villagers in New Leaf, and I loved the Egyptian Aesthetic.

My favourite villiger was ankha too. I don't mind fan art depicting some (emphasis on some) villigers like that so much. Previous to NH she acted very full of herself, so i always made it out that she would partake in *that* as representation of her more egotistical persona (though not many peices are correctly illustrative of that, but they do exist). The problem is that there is a culture that has normalised the prevalence of such conversation, and made it so people assume that's the reason I like the character. The ankha dance video was originally done by a person that made her look cuter than she normally is and the art style does make her look thiccer, and her dance too i guess, in it so naturally there would be other videos about that original video that make her not so appropriate.
