    My goodness, all the different steps & work that goes into your works of art! If you sell them they must cost a fortune !! And I love the way you explain everything so well.Makes it so much more fun to watch. I'm so old now I would never be able to save up to buy one ! LOL I'm so late watching this i missed the give away.

    A very different bowl Mike.
    You certainly are very patient.
    I don’t know how well the leather patches will wear and stay on.
    You are very talented and think in a different way to most Woodturners.

    Mike, I've seen many of your projects but this one, even royalty would blush. While stationed at RAF Lakenheath, I enjoyed all aspects of Great Britain. Now that I'm retired back home in Texas your accent and kind words bring back those enjoyable times. Keep creating my friend!

      Thanks Robert, it's an amazing tool, there is a learning curve but once you get the hand of it it's fairly easy to use.

    I am marveling at the way the rings of scales exactly fit/come together with no gaps and no scrunching the last one in to close the ring. Whew! Lots of math?

    From a young age I've been obsessed with Dragons and the first thing I thought at seeing this was oh my gosh a Dragon bowl 😮 I'm so glad I found your channel thank you for all that you do.

      When I got the laser I watched a few reviews and I saw a guy cutting felt, it was that that gave me the initial idea. I've been reworking the idea in my head for about 4 weeks.

      Love the idea but a question is how long does CA glue last. Th reason is it was brought up at our local club that PVA glue only lasts about 20yrs before starting to degrade. I am located in Invercargill NZ. My mum really enjoys watching as well she is in a retirement home and is 89. Thanks , Richard Russell.

      @@richardrussell4879 hi Richard, that is a very good question, to be honest I have no idea lol. Just looking it up and the bond should be permanent as long as moisture in the environment does not get too high.

    I really like the wood/leather combination, it's given a great result,lovely piece of art and gives woodturners another great idea to give their imagination a work out,they don't have to copy but can use leather wood combinations in other ways to take their woodturning to another level,thanks Mike for getting us all thinking.

    I’ve said is before Mike but I am going to say it again; You are a real artist!! Wow, what a piece of art! What a concept to combine wood, leather and laser-ingraving in this manner. As a beginning woodturner I am stunned seeing all the beautyfull pieces that come off your lathe…. I guess I have a lot of practise to do 😮😅😅😂

      Thanks Tim, my wife knows better than to ask if everything is ok if I'm being quiet, she knows so well by now that I'm working solving problems I may encounter in my head.       Thanks Frank, I know doing it this way will mean my channel will probably stay largely unnoticed but I'm fine with that, I want to connect with people and help, and in return if I share my thoughts then I very often get tips and ideas from those watching which I love.       @@MikeHolton Not sure whether I missed that in the video. How did you match the size of the tiles to the circumference of the bowl? Did you scale the graphic after outside turning was complete?

      @@jurgenwartmann6584 No I didn't say, I knew the depth I wanted for the scales 25mm, so I measured the circumference of the bowl and worked out how wide each one would be to fit exactly and not either be too wide or too thin to match the depth. When I knew the size I altered my templates so they were all this size and sent this to the laser, I think it ended up 25mm deep and 20.21mm wide. The great thing with lasers is that you can be as accurate as you like. Hope I explained it well enough. All the best, Mike

      @MikeHolton I couldn't carve a stick figure to save my life! Let alone a terraced leaf pattern with such intricate lines! That might be a fun project for a rotary cnc! 😅

    So cool! The maker space at my library has a laser engraver. This might be the idea that encourages me to actually learn to use it.

      Haha glad it's inspired you to give it a go. Warning though, burning leather on an engraver produces an interesting smell lol
