Hi Harry my friend this is a magnificent and unique cookie jar, I love the snakewood finial on top of lid is a real gem. Well done turning this piece, glad you never hurt yourself to badly. Take care of yourself all the best Amanda xxxx
Stunning piece, made even better by the snakewood and the hobnobs! Glad your cut wasn't too serious. The worst I've been hurt in the shop (to date!) has been using a hand drill and the band saw. They're comfortable, friendly tools that make you drop your guard, unlike the noisy router and terrifying table saw.
Beautiful wood, and a beautiful jar. About the accident, you were lucky. I was a bit careless on a table saw, and in a tenth of a second. I lost a middle finger, and the blade carved the joint on my index finger, so the surgeon operated it stiff. Pardon me if I don´t express myself correctly, I am not used to write in English. Greetings from Sweden!
in Australia we call that ripple effect that is caused by strain and pressure of weight where a branch connects to the trunk of a tree--Fiddleback, Beautiful wood and piece
I love your cookie pot, it is most beautiful! I really like how the different woods complement each other, a job well done. Mmm I like your choice in cookies too. I want one! 😁👍👍
Wood turning/ working is dangerous. I dropped an axe on my foot and ended up in A&E luckily no major damage or lost toes. But a message to everyone complacency is how we get hurt carelesnes and complacency is how we ended up having to leave this amazing hobby/ craft.
Hello my friend Harry! I am very sorry for the accident you had, but I think it was important that you show it in your video, as it reminds us that even the most experienced people have accidents too. I once broke my middle finger while turning wood. I almost lost the head of my finger, fortunately it was possible to save it, but it was a tremendous scare! As for the piece, it was absurdly beautiful. Congratulations! Big hug.
By the burn marks on that roughed out wood, I'd say your band saw was blunt and possibly the reason for your little accident. Lovely end result though.
Thanks for sharing harry, I generally like your videos. However you shouldn’t use a ( spindle) roughing gouge on cross grain work. During your turning of the lid, it was only for a few seconds though. At least I think that’s what I saw. Newbie turners can get wrong ideas from watching experienced turners. Otherwise a very good box, simple and elegant . I do hope that you used food safe finish though, there was no mention at all. I always enjoy your videos, keep them coming. Don’t mind me I’m the trainer at my local club and can’t help myself when I see dangerous stuff in videos.
I am curious; at about the 7:33 mark you are rubbing wood shavings on the piece while the lathe is turning. What is the purpose of this? I've seen other turners do it as well and haven't been able to decide what it accomplishes.
I usually love watching your videos, that's why I subscribed to your channel. This one was all close-up shots. This type of video is very hard for me to watch because I wear progressive lenses. Too much of a good thing. Please consider this when making future videos. Love the piece, well done. 😎
Instead of hollowing the wood inside through turning try to cut a log piece inside to the extent of making hollow so that you get a smaller piece to make another cup or jar..
Very nice! Pretty woods, the combination looks good. Your accident was horrible, lucky it wasn't worse. I've always been terrified of power tools of any kind. They scare the heck out of me.
Not wood, but I was using a drill press and had chuck loosen up, and the 1/4 in thick aluminum went flying and tried to take my thumb off. Took 14 stitches, I highly don't recommend the process.
As a relatively experienced woodturner I was attracted by the title of the project 'The worlds most expensive wood' which I realise is a toss between Snakewood and Kingwood. As I watched the main body of the video I couldn't see anything that resembled these two woods. It was only at the end when he turned the knob that I could see it was Snakewood. I would have preferred the project if it had been described as 'Turning a lidded box with a Snakewood finial/knob'.
Cutting that second piece at about 1:07 you (once again) almost took your right index finger off. You seriously do NOT know band saw safety (or just don't care). Hey...they're your hands, so be my guest, but JEEZ.
Lovely cookie jar and watch your hands with the bandsaw!
Beautiful how those three woods go together so well. Very sweet cookie jar. Lovely.
Delicious inside and out!
Now that's a beautiful cookie jar
stunning piece of wood really nice cookie jar
Glad you are okay and a lovely little container.
Glad you're okay and beautiful piece!
Beautiful Harry, the button for the lid was like a jewel.
Lucky biscuits...I would love to have your bandsaw even if I might lose a finger or two.😃
Attaboy Harry.
Beautiful cookie / biscuit pot. Depends on where you are from, to what you call it.
Harry, that is so beautiful.👍👍👏👏👏
Wow, where the side branch came out left a beautyful ring. Really nice. Thanks. PS; please be careful.
...the grain in this piece is just phenomenal!...
Be careful...I want to be able to enjoy next week's video...👍
Matt

That’s beautiful.
Your work is worthy of placement in museums! YES it is!
Stunning piece, made even better by the snakewood and the hobnobs!

Really, really nice work Harry.

Beautiful Harry. Happens to all of us when you’re pushing on the wood and it suddenly releases, pushing your weight towards the blade. Be safe
Good looking wood, well done.
Very beautiful cookie jar Harry and you did an excellent job turning it!!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up

That is nice
Very nice, thank you for sharing!

Same thing happened to me with the bandsaw went the full length of my index finger to the bone 🦴 easily done
Cheers Harry you doing wonderful job 👍 💯 thumbs-up

A truly lovely finish.
Very nice. You did a great job!

Thank you very much Roman! 😁👍 Have you seen my new art and design channel yet? www.youtube.com/@DesignedbyHS/videos

Please be careful of your fingers and hands. Love your videos.
Спасибо. Успехов в творчестве
I nailed my finger a few times in a band saw. I worked in a stairbuilding factory. Only girl employed there. I love working with wood!
Only girl and she somehow managed to nail her hand.
Hopefully they were just nicks.
Teachable moments.

It is a technique to burnish the wood, i.e. polish it 👍

Jolie Harry 👍 attention la scie à ruban des fois surprend 🧐 sinon très bonne vidéo bravo 👏👏

Wow.
Good looking biscuit barrel, but try using push sticks, they work!
What kind of wood is it. It’s gorgeous!
who set the price?
Great work dude. 😃😃
that's a very nice bicky jar
What is the name of THE MOST EXSPENSIVE WOOD in the world?? Im assuming its the knob??
What type is it
Not wood, but I was using a drill press and had chuck loosen up, and the 1/4 in thick aluminum went flying and tried to take my thumb off. Took 14 stitches, I highly don't recommend the process.
А я бы там кофе хранил.
Newbie i used a band saw first time, with a teacher..
One i was scared, second. I think he did not give me enough safety rules.
I am not ready.
looks like plain ash
Why so much waste given its the worlds most expensive wood ?
Beautiful Cookie jar!! ❤❤❤❤
You know better than to use your hands to push the wood like that Harry! You have tools for that! Sheesh!
Yes: good job. But why use gloves for woodturning?? I'm sure you perfectely know it's one of the most dangerous way to work...
Snakewood... is that more expensive than Bog Oak?
But still using gloves
Lol @ trigger warnings

Go away
Why didn't you just slice off a piece of the original wood to make the lid. Would've been prettier considering the grain of the end product.
Did he ever actually tell us what woods he used? Video got too boring for me to watch the whole thing
Hi I just watched it. No he didn't! but comment above said its snakewood. 😌🐦
He said in the description what all three woods he used were.
@@SuesOriginals thank you Sue! I should have expanded on "Project begins..." and theres the full description. 😌🐦🇨🇦
