• AMAZING KOLKATA Food S...
Kolkata is a melting pot of cultural diversity. It has embraced migrants from different parts of the world and made them its own. One such community is the Chinese community that first set foot in the city during the British rule. Since it was the capital of the country many Chinese families got attracted to settle here. And that is how the populous Chinese settlement came to existence in the central part of Kolkata. In this episode we are on a journey to explore some of the popular street foods across the Chinese settlements including Tiretta Bazar and Tangra. To guide us about the locality, cultural scenes and the food, we were joined by our gracious and dynamic host Pamela Das.
We started the tour early in the morning from Teritta Bazar. The place is known for the daily morning street market where one can find numerous traditional Chinese breakfast items. These are mostly prepared and sold by the Chinese families living in the locality. On Sundays the crowd swells up with food enthusiasts thronging the place for pork baos, sui pao, sauces and condiments etc. Our picks included pork bao, rice pudding, fried rice balls, sweet crispy rajma stuffed bun, pork pastry, meatball soup and prawn papad. Of these the best thing was the sweet rajma stuffed buns and the least pleasant one was the meatball soup as it was too bland.
After the heavy breakfast we moved to Tangra which is known as the new Chinatown. Apart from the numerous factories and units, this place had earned the reputation of being a hub for great traditional Chinese food. Most of the iconic eateries over here are family run. Though their ambience is unpretentious, their food is much coveted. Here we tried wonton noodles or the singhara chow as the Bengali's call it, at two different places. At the first place we saw how the noodles were being prepared using a tedious, ancient noodle making technique which was so fascinating. At the second place the wonton noodles were bit more flavourful and robust.
After that hearty wonton trail we arrived at our final destination Eau Chew which is deemed as the oldest family run eatery in the city. Here we tried two of their hot selling dishes named Chimney Soup and Josephine Noodles. The sensational names got us excited. Chimney soup was a lightly seasoned broth containing eggs, chicken, prawn and vegetables. The unique thing about this dish is the brass vessel in which it was served. It has burning charcoal inside it. There was a chimney-like outlet through which the heat and smoke escaped. Josephine noodles on the other hand was pan fried noodles that had miscellaneous ingredients. Both the dishes were super yummy. With that hearty meal and warm conversations with the owners at Eau Chew, we came to the end of this delightful tour. See you soon.
*Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is a flavour enhancer. Although there have been reports of adverse reactions caused by MSG, notably the so-called “Chinese restaurant syndrome”, however there is no scientific evidence to suggest that MSG has any adverse effects on the general population in the amounts normally consumed as part of the diet. Glutamates occur naturally in protein rich foods such as meat, fish, poultry and vegetables.

This girl is true Bengali foodie.... Ready to explore and taste without wasting a nano second 😂😂☺
True...😀

Absolutely...ha...ha....ha
Yeah She is..Very eager to eat.
@@VivekKumar-ww5dt tere ko chatne main jani kisi ka mazak udane main jyada maja aata hai
Most of the comments are regarding the girl who is equally enjoying the food and our male Indian eyes are not quite habituated to see a girl eating and and enjoying food. We are so habituated to see a pretty fare smiling girl just cutting little food and spreading her warmth that we could not like this. Being a Calcuttan, I must say she has guided Anubhav to the right and authentic places of common people chinese joints. There are star chinese restaurant run by Bengali's , super hygienic and ultimate classy but she had visited to the lost charms of a bygone era....this is the spirit of food walk...rightly captured
Wonderfully said that ! Very correct.
Not at all. She is quite cute and brings a lot of knowledge. Definitely the highlight of this video.
Absolutely. We Indians have a bad habit of commenting negatively about everything, if it is a young woman then the fun doubles. Especially so if she does not conform with our idea of how a woman is supposed to behave. Arre dekha ladki ghum rahi hai, kha rahi hai, chalo Iski phirki le.
What they are forgetting is that she has done a lot of research and background work for the host to explore. She also may not be an on-camera person and may be a behind the scene person.
Well said!
Rightly put
This Kolkata series has to be the most comprehensive kolkata food series on UA-cam. Hats off Sir.🙏
Very soon no one will make Chinese food

I tried malaysian thai chinese from singapore but i lv Singapore s chinese
Wow!! Pamela took you to oldest China Town at San Yat Sen Street for Sunday breakfast . At one time most Famous Restaurant of East Nanking existed here, where famous movie Howrah Bridge was shot , now due to dispute between the brothers it is turned into a Pagoda. The Best Roasted Chili Pork in Kolkata is made by DLey Restaurant , same locality, I am sure Pamela knows it. Eau Chew , that's beautiful place and Joel was speaking to you . This is now run by Joel and Jennifer the brother sister duo. They don't keep any staff due to union problem and their Chimney Soup is still the best in Kolkata. IMO in Tangra, you missed Shun Li, next to Chinese Kalibari , they make best home made Chinese food made by Chinese for the Chinese. Run by Mathew Chen and Sister Michelle Chen.
Wow I would had never know about this Chinese’s migrates people ( now of course our Indian brothers) living in Calcutta for that long. Wonderful of you to show us real India. Thank you!!
Thank you so much!

Another area covered which forms a part of the cosmopolitan culture of Kolkata. Chinese food shown here can rarely be found anywhere in india. Waiting eagerly for the next episode. I hope you cover the" Bengali Pice hotel" food culture which forms an integral part of the city.

It's like a hidden gem, no? Only locals know about it because we outsiders don't hear about it much.
Yes it is!
Your food journey to Kolkata would’ve been incomplete without covering Chinese food. I was eagerly waiting for this. Thank you !

Pamela came across as she knew what she was talking about and seemed to be enjoying the food. It was a treat to watch. Thank you, Anubhav for a fabulous tour of Kolkata!
Only in Kolkata you will have such authentic Chinese colony and Chinese dishes ranging from breakfast to dinner. Thanks team Delhi Food Walks for covering this part of the town!

Kolkata Chinese food is out of this world. Great video and kudos to the girl who took you to all the right places
Chinese food outside India is not so tasty as they are in Calcutta.
What I like about your videos is that it is very well researched. You have presented authentic kolkata food like no one ever.
Thank you ma’am
My Dearest Anubhab ji, I have lot's of respect for you, watch almost all videos during this lock down. Started with Hardwar video.,each and every episode is a wonderful experience for me.. thank you so much for all these gift for us.. God bless you
That aunty at 4:50 was so sweet 😊😊😊
Must say, it's well covered within the time span. Otherwise it could on for hours covering the other well known eateries. Interestingly, I find that many of the people selling in Tirreti Bazar, as well as in Tangra, are locals who must have learnt the cuisine from the Chinese owners. That's good I would say - that's the way a cuisine survives 👍
Indeed! Thank you so much ☺️
U can't be a Food expert & don't love food. This girl proves it in every sense she is true Food lover.
Thankyou for this lovely episode ..... Enjoyed a lot while watching it ...
Next time when I am visiting kolkata I will surely visit China Town and Territi Bazar.... Waiting for the next episode eagerly ....😃😃😃😄

I like this host as she is natural, we all here for food and she really enjoys it. Love you girl.
She looks as if she is here only for food.....not eaten since ages. While agree that the host too must love food but she seems to be ready to eat anything and everything and not at all interested in letting us know the stories of the rich history behind kolkatta food. Hello Anubhav, I'm from Calcutta. I'm glad you visited the China Town which is a unique feature of our city. I thought you had missed it, but good to see you went there.
Also, I saw your biryani episode where you visited Dada Boudir Hotel in Barrackpore and that Nawabi lady's place. I'd recommend the next time you come to Calcutta you should go to the top biryani joints in the city, like Arsalan, India Restaurant, Royal Indian Hotel, Shiraz Golden Restaurant, Aminia. These are some of the oldest biryani restaurants in Calcutta and the bests, which will give you the true vibe of the biryani culture in our city!
We definitely will the next time! Thank you 😊
Kafulok - right at the end of big line of restaurants in Chinatown, Tangra. One of my favorites where we used to go a lot. 🙂
Amazing as always. Thumbs up

Best of China town Kim ling restaurant kolkata
The kind of food variety in Kolkata is insane be it Bengali food, biryani, rolls, Chinese food, sweets, momos and so much more. I don't think any other Indian city has this much variety.
