I would like to say something from the core of my heart. I have been here in China for 5 years now. I have already been accustomed to the chinese traditions and cultures. Hatsoff to Team Foodka for showing people real Chinese delicacies. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now it feels like I have covered a major part of the world travelling all throughout China. But I would like to point out some things, 1. The restaurant RJ Deep named of is actually pronounced as NanChing, and not nanking, because the spelling is Nanqing. 2. Eau chew restaurant is actually OuZhou, the chinese characters says so, which definitely means Europe. And The steamed Bhetki which was shown, is actually from a place called GuiZhou in China. Thanks Team Foodka for breaking the stereotype for Chinese cuisine.

Most of the Chinese 99% in India are Hakka, so those pronunciations like Nan King and Eau chew are hakka. The version you learn Nanching and OuZhou are mandarin Chinese. So you must speak and under stand very good mandarin Chinese.

You deserve 5 thumbs up. The history of Nan King Restaurant is so moving. I remember as a child we used to go to Eau chou for Chinese wedding, at that time they used to cater Chinese weddings. Bengalis loves Chinese food. When I bring lunch to school my Bengalis class mates loves my lunch. Those were the happiest days of my life in Kolkata(Calcutta). We celebrate every religious holidays centered on eating each of our foods. I am so proud to be anglo indian and Chinese. I have everything in my blood. Good job guys.
Watching this vdo from last 4 years,at last yesterday I went to EAU CHEW with my two sons. The food is amazing , ambience is sooooo like old kolkata .Enjoyed a loooot. Thnx Mir and Fudka for this wholesome experience.

I am seeing many people asking for the difference between an Eating House and a Restaurant, so I'm providing one below.
So the differences are myriad. First, Eating houses are mostly not meant for families, they are meant for people 'on the go', so the ambience is mostly a bit different.
Second, due to the Clientale, the food being served is generally a bit different. For example, while wontons, soup-chowmein, stir-fried pork and other similar dishes are popular in Eating Houses, the more coveted (and let's say fancy) dishes like chimney soup, fish based delicacies, along with the basic Calcutta Chinese fare like Chilli Chicken, Chowmein, Chicken Manchurian are more popular in restaurants. So if you're planning on a date night, a restaurant would be the best choice (although the jury's out if your better half is more of the 'adventurer' type, she might prefer an Eating House)
Third, Eating Houses generally function for particular times of the day: early mornings and evenings. You usually can't get 'soup-chow' (a breakfast item) later than 10 AM in the morning. Restaurants, especially the ones in Tangra, are open throughout.
Fourth, prices, as expected, are different. Eating Houses will be much cheaper, but l always found the food to be more authentic there. Although this might create a stir, but Restaurants serve food for the public in general but somewhere, somehow, the authenticity is lost.
Fifth, and most important. I am a proud Calcuttan and I live a stone's throw distance away from Chinatown. I literally grew up eating Chinese food (and it's my favourite cuisine by far🙈🙈). And even though I have been living outside of Calcutta for the past few years (you know the drill), my heart still lies there and I will definitely settle down there.
Chinese food, especially Calcutta Chinese food is a very unique part of our culture. It is akin to a 'vada-pav' for a Mumbaikar, or a 'chole-bhature' for a Delhite. And the Chinese culture, their unique cuisine is on its last legs in this country. The cuisine has been substituted with copycat versions having a more Nepali or North Eastern touch (which although not bad and which I also love, is a world apart from the authentic one). Most of the Chinese are moving out from the country because of many reasons.
Having been brought up in those neighborhoods, those quaint houses with netted windows, the narrow bylanes flanked by red coloured buildings, the elderly Chinese playing the game of 'Go' (check it out once), the happy smiling Buddha statues which greet you the moment you enter any establishment, all of these evoke a sense of nostalgia in me. And it is imperative that we restore this unique culture to the respectful position it used to occupy during its heydays. Let us come together in popularising this unique aspect of our city.

I was in institutional supply in the mid-nineties. The gentleman who ran Kafulok used to buy the best ingredients only, price was never a consideration. No wonder they are known for their quality.

Why first time?
The opening bars of "Foodka" suggests that food has no religion.....but it is startling that Mir consciously avoids the PORK dishes.....is this not HYPOCRISY to the core....In a different episode (about Biryani), Indrajit is seen feasting on a BEEF dish and he does justice to the title song of Foodka.
That's what I am thinking. Although beef is not allowed in Hindu religion but consumption of pork is not prohibited at all

But,normally, সনাতন ধর্মাবলম্বীরা গোমাংস খায়না বেশীরভাগ।আমি সে অর্থে বুঝাইছি,যদি জানতাম উনি খান তবে তার নাম উল্লেখ করতাম না। হয়তো ওনার ধর্মীয় এই বিশ্বাস টা মেনে চলায় কোনো আপত্তি আছে বা মানেন না। ইসলাম ধর্মে যেমন রোজা রাখা অবশ্য করনীয় হলেও অনেকে রাখেন না capable হওয়া সত্ত্বেও। সবার ধর্মভয় তো আর একরকম না,আবার সবাই সব কিছু প্রাকটিকালি পালন করেও না। যদিও করা উচিত। মীর যদি মুসলিম হয়, সে একটা মুসলিম ফ্যামিলি তে যদি বড় হয়, এর মানে সে নিশ্চই পোর্ক খেয়ে বয়ার হয়নি। ধর্মভীরু হয়েই হোক বা জীবনযাপন এর অভ্যাসের জন্যেই হোক সে সেটা খায়না। আমরা তো অনেকেই আছি যারা ছোটোবেলা থেকে বিশেষ কোনো খাবার খাইনা, যেমন আমি নিজে কখনো শোল,পাঙ্গাশ এসব মাছ খাইনা।কখনো খাইনা বলে এখনো চাইলে খেতে পারিনা। কে কি খাবে এটা তার নিজের ব্যপার। ধর্মে হয়তো পাপ হবে খাওয়াদাওয়ার নিয়ম না মানলে,কিন্তু সে পাপ করবে কি করবে না এটা তো তার নিজস্ব চয়েজ।

I went to Kafulok restaurant yesterday. Asked for the whole Bhetki fry but that wasn't available. Asked for chicken roast, but that wasn't available either. They said that to have chicken roast we had to inform them one day in advance. Ordered chicken wings fry, but the chicken wasn't fresh and was bad in taste. We mentioned the same to the restaurant and they didn't charge for that dish. But after I watched this video, I went there with great expectations, but sadly that wasn't met. The food wasn't that good.

প্রসঙ্গক্রমে বলে রাখি, পার্কসার্কাসের zamzam রেস্টুরেন্টে ফুডকা কিন্তু বিফ বিরিয়ানীও খেয়েছিল।
আমি বলছি না যে, ফুডকা "এই" খেয়েছিল তাই মীরকেও "ওই" খেতে হবে...হতে পারে মীরের এলার্জি আছে,তবে সবমিলিয়ে ব্যাপারটা দৃষ্টিকটু, যেহেতু তারা ফুড vlog করছে।
আমারও একই প্রশ্ন মীর ভাইয়ের কাছে...
আমিও উনার গুনমুগ্ধ একজন শ্রোতা।কিন্তু তার এই স্টান্ডবাজী আমার ভালো লাগল না...
হয়ত উনি অফ ক্যামেরা খেয়েছেন। সচেতন ভাবেই তা এড়িয়েছে। অন ক্যামেরা দেখালে আবার ধর্মীয় বিবাদ শুরু হয়ে যেত। থাক না। কিছু বিষয় নিয়ে বেশি আলোচনা না করাই ভাল। মীরদাকে ভালবাসি ওটুকুই যথেষ্ট।
মীর একটা পাক্কা জিনিস।ওকে রীতুপর্ণ ঘোষ সত্যিকারের ঝেড়েছিলো আচ্ছা করে।

Great video, was hoping for a Calcutta Chinese episode and found it... much thanks.. I also found something interesting.. Mir does not touch the pork dishes in any restaurant. Yet in the opening sequences, he sings about how food has no religion and caste... these scenes just proved the opposite... :)

I am a big fan of Foodka series. In my recent trip to Kolkata I was able to manage sometime to visit Tung Nam eating house.
Chicken wonton and chilli pork were excellent but the test of mix hakka chow mein and chicken szechwan were average.
We want 2nd part of Chinese food , with some more authentic Chinese hidden gems restaurant !!!
