Karen Anne Carpenter, the greatest contralto to ever grace this planet. Such a tragic loss for all of us fans who remember the day we heard the shocking reports of her passing, and only learned after the fact of the struggles she dealt with throughout her short life. That beautiful effortless God-given perfect pitch 3-octave voice was truly one of a kind. Thanks for reacting to this classic Christmas song Empress. P.S. Your new HD camera and mic setup looks and sounds fantastic.
Awww that golden voice! There is nothing like it. It’s funny that you say the saxophone isn’t your favorite. I love hearing the saxophone and I am wondering if it’s an acquired taste. 🎶 Merry Christmas Empress 🎶.
Tenor Sax is my favorite brass instrument -- I think the Soprano and Alto saxes can be more of an acquired taste due to their higher range and brighter/brassier sound. For me, nothing beats a tenor sax in the hands of a master such as Grover Washington Jr., it's one heck of an emotional instrument. I hope Empress doesn't dismiss all sax playing out of hand, it really does depend on the type of sax, its range, and, of course, the artist. Maybe we can convince Empress to give a private listen to Grover Washington Jr.'s "Winelight" album from 1980 (with the Bill Withers "Just The Two Of Us" grammy winner on it), perhaps she'll then see the instrument in an entirely different light (don't worry Empress, we'll never tell). :)
I'm not that Familiar with their Christmas Album (s). But I Know One thing's for sure! Their Music in General is the most Magical Music I've ever Heard. Karen Carpenter is My Favorite Female Artist. She just has that Glow in Her Voice that makes You Stop whatever it is You're doing and Feel whatever She's Singing. It's so Sad the Way Her Life Ended. She had a lot to Live for. I also Learned that She was the Zodiac Sign of a Pisces just as Me. So I see Why I cling to Her Magnificent Voice. She put a lot of Heart & Soul in whatever She does. Which is a Pisces Trait. 😊💝♓
i've heard this since i was a kid and it's a MUST LISTEN for the christmas holiday! only once every decade or so will a classic like this come upon us. my decades quintessential xmas list: '60s - "christmas (baby please come home)" by darlene love '70s - this carpenters classic and also "feliz navidad" by josé feliciano '80s - "do they know it's christmas" by band aid (also U2's cover of "christmas (baby please come home)" and "2000 miles by the pretenders) '90s - "all i want for christmas is you" by mariah carey MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
Karen lived in my hood, what a talent and one of the best recorded female voices of all time. She has so many good songs to pick from, like Olivia Newton John, who was her best friend, she sounds like she is singing right to you. Time to start looking at The Carpenters!
The Carpenters rabbit hole is a very enjoyable thing to encounter. I assume you're from Downey since that's where Karen lived beginning in '63? Her late parents' home is still there (UA-cam videos show how it looks today), but the recording studio she and Richard built on the adjacent piece of property is long gone.
@@craigcraigster4999 Richard and Karen's childhood home in New Haven ct is also still standing and it looks very much the same as it did when they were kids.
@@mpa417 Nice to know that her childhood home in CT is still around. Upon her passing, Karen was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, CA, but in 2003 Richard had her remains moved to the Carpenter family mausoleum at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village, CA, so that her final resting place would be alongside her parents -- my understanding is that Richard was instrumental in the selection of that beautiful location (about midway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara), as well as the design of the structure. There is a very respectful UA-cam video which shows the mausoleum, the interior of which contains the inscription, "Karen Carpenter, March 2, 1950 - February 4, 1983, A Star On Earth - A Star In Heaven." Many people make the pilgrimage to Westlake Village to pay their respects, even after all these years (I lived in that area for 31 years but never knew until recently that Karen and her parents were buried right in my former community). The video I mentioned can be viewed at ua-cam.com/video/8NTm8V1LyNM/v-deo.html for those interested.

The definitive Christmas song. If you don’t hear it at Christmas time, there’s something wrong.

No voice teacher can give you a HEAVENLY VOICE like Karen carpenter. Sometime in her tragically short life the angels above shined on her.
Before my time but still 100% on my playlist! Her voice is perfection, and I always need to hear this every holiday season!
the most beautiful, warm, intimate, rich, pure female voice ever!... perfect for love, romance and christmas songs....

Is this the 1971 or 1978 version I think its 70
There are 2 versions?‼️

This sounds like the 1970 version. You can tell that Karen was young when she recorded this.
Yep, this is the 1971 version.
Your bouncing around does not go with the melody of the song??? It is a slow beautiful song.
