A gold ball is what the nugget is called in Japan. They make a joke about it at some point in one of the games.
Would this be the scene in X/Y where you "choose" between a Master Ball and a Big Gold Nugget and then get both?

Oh my god...this game was a randomizer before randomizers were cool...
And to an extent it's also a Nuzlocke, losing a battle makes you lose that pokemon!
Randomizer? Don't you mean procedural generator?
No. "Randomizers" are programs used to randomize the Pokémon found on routes, in battles, etc. (among other things) in Pokémon games.
You start with Registeel, his attack is an amazing start for a Nuzlocke! *runs away before he gets caught in the epic fail about to happen*

Someone should make a fan made sequel to these, one which gives pokemon unique effects and such. These games have such potential but seem off at best with the execution.
I could see it happening, given that Comaster is a revival of their even more obscure trading figure game and seems to be popular to an extent. Although a theoretical MQ 4?(/World Tour?/World Domination?) would have to be an online one because manufacturing chips/cards for 802 pokemon would be a massive money sink, plus it would be much easier to update (when new stuff appears) and balance.
Commandant Obvious theoretically a physical pokemon board game could use a supplementary phone app like Xcom, though that would be outside the realm of "fan made". Otherwise id be ok with a virtual mq4. Be my new hearthstone.
I can imagine someone doing all 7 generations of Pokemon for Pokemon master trainer...
They'd get sued for using Nintendo's likeness.
Im making one... i use an yugioh style with dices... my friends love the fight mode but i cant make the walking in the field interesting, working on that.

I won a copy of this game when I was 10 at the Pokemon 10th anniversary event at Space Center Houston. I always used the chips for damage counters for the card game, but I don't remember ever actually playing this game.

Some of my favorite JWittz videos are the ones were I learn about an obscure Nintendo/Pokémon thing I didn't know about, like the videos on robopon, the trading figure game, the reburst manga, and yes, this trilogy of the Pokémon master trainer games.
I get that it's in both English and French, but I just love that the end says "GOAL BUT". I'm not immature, I'm just in suspense because the game is keeping me waiting for so flipping long *WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME?!*
It's fun to watch hockey in French in Canada, with everyone scoring so many but(t)s. But yeah, they force French on everything sold here, even in regions of Canada that rarely speak French outside of learning it in school, which is only mandatory to a certain age.

I actually owned this game once, and I think we may still have it shoved in the back of a closet somewhere. The rules were too much for me and my brother when we were little, so we just took all the cards and played War with them (throw down two cards, higher number wins and collects both cards, repeat until one player has the whole deck). Good times!

Pokemon master trainer 1: It Brutal and long, but is cool with friends.
Pokemon master trainer 2: It Still brutal, but they removed MAJOR game changers (Trade, Time Machine) and it shorter. doe the EXP is really a stupid thing.
Pokemon master trainer 3: dont even talk about it.
So basically the superior Red/Blue and Gold/Silver compared to the heartbreak that was Ruby/Sapphire.

someone totally needs to combine the best things from all three, and make THE definitive Master Trainer board game (or just take all three and play with custom rules, combining the best stuff from all three, that's how I played monopoly in the day when me and pals were bored of the normal rules x'D)

To be fair, the "Gold Ball" is probably a translation thing.
The japanese name is a reference to testicles.

"Kintama" literally means "gold ball." But it's also slang for testicles in the same way we use terms like "family jewels." I doubt it's a 'reference' though... If they'd been decent enough with this game's translation to have someone who's familiar with Pokemon do it, they'd easily end up with the more consistent translation of "nugget."
Funnily enough, the only time I’ve heard/seen the phrase “family jewels” was a dragon ball manga.

Fun series. I had the first one as a child. My friend and didn't enjoy it so we made our own Pokemon board game on a big piece of paper and had more fun with that instead

My family played it like any other Monopoly game.
Plus, rolling double sixes gives you the option to flat out steal your choice of one of an opponent's properties as long as it isn't part of an existing monopoly. There's no need to rely on trading to make sure players get some monopolies in this version of the game.

I'm glad you survived this madness along with us. I've only ever played the first master trainer and I had a great time. I hope to be able to watch some more board game content even if it's not Pokémon/Nintendo related. I love your content and I hope that you keep making videos. Thanks for the laughs and the great times you've given me throughout your UA-cam career

These videos were so fun! As someone with not a lot of friends growing up, and a very small family, I NEVER played board games, so I never even knew these existed! So nice to see something "new" from my favorite franchise by a favorite content creator. Can't wait to see more of these! Thanks Josh!

really happy to hear that there are more pokemon board games for the future, its really interesting to see how people adapt it into a board game
You got gen1 and gen2 boards, money chips from gen3, event and items cards from the three board games and lots of pokemon chips from the 2nd game...Time to take the best of all this and homerule "Brutal Pokemon Board Game: HeartGold edition"!
(all new rules are optionals, comment if you have other ideas ^^)
New plot:
-start in Johto, you can travel to Kanto once you beat Lance, he basically test you alone.
(everyone can challenge him but only 1st to win get his "badge" bonus)
-once in Kanto, continue to build your team then challenge the elite four when you feel ready!
(it shound be easier with exp chips, and faster since you already have more pokemons when starting Kanto)
-Now start the final race back to Johto to challenge Red, Mt.Shirogane is open to you.
(end of the game)
Shortcuts: (cost one turn, action by announcment instead of dice)
-Travel from Johto start at Victory road, travel from Kanto start at Viridian city.
(free if your power level is enough to challenge elite4, if not: cost money)
-choose to not go to indigo plateau when you reach Cinnabar island, you get back to Pallet Town
(free if you have a water type in your (active?) team, if not: cost money)
-Stay in Saffron city or Goldenrod city to get in the magnet train
(cost money, only aviable once you unlock Kanto)
-Stay in Vermilion city or Olivine city to get in the S.S.Aqua
(cost money, only aviable once you unlock Kanto)
Money and shops: (all costs have to be homeruled)
-since there are many item cards, you can pass a turn in any town to get to the shop (if open)!
(roll the dice, 4-5-6 you pay money and/or draw a card. once per turn max, can announce only if you can afford it)
-for those who want to simulate economy, items are from the deck of their respective region and 3rd deck can be used as emergency supply (draw one instead of two, shops closed) or just be equally mixed in the other decks (shop always open)
-battles win/lose you money
-shops can be set as "closed" from the start, to nullify the "pass turn to roll item card chance" rule
Pokemons and PC:
?-only pokemons from a region appears in it
-you can only have 6 active pokemons
-pass a turn in a town to switch pokemons (only if full life)
-Pokemons in PC can not be stolen or traded
-Types: +1dmg against weak foe, +2 against super weak (HG/SS typing grid)
-Spinner's min/max does not makes you auto lose/win, it just add the score like a dice roll.
-one "Fly" event per player can be kept like an item card, if the player have a flying type pokemon in the active team
(you can only fly to a town in the region you're in, not from a region to the other, even if you unlock Kanto)
Other:
-at start of the game, pick a player as Rival, another one as Friend.
rival battle can't be bribed/avoided
neutral battle can be bribed but not avoided (if the opponent accepts)
friend battle can be avoided for free
-choose a trainer class (bug catcher, swimer, ect) and your pokemons of the coresponding typing get +1HP or +1ATK
(bonus type is to be chosen at same time as the class, can't be changed)
-rocket grunt get no bonus, but you can steal other player's pokemon after a battle victory! but no money from thief battle
(roll the dice, if your score is better than your opponent's: get the pokemon, still KO until you heals it)
-eye contact can be solved with money! You can choose to just pay instead of battle, if you're some rich player
(you can also pay instead of rolling the thief dice, if you're aifraid to have your pokemon stolen and the player accept)
-stolen pokemon lose its exp chips (because it does not trust the new trainer!)
?-pokemon in PC lose its exp chips (because it does not train and become lazy)
?-traded pokemon lose its exp chips (unless you share the "rival" or "friend" bond with the other player)
-If two players are on the same travel tile the same turn and both announce a travel they can:
(auto if rivals) battle! loser lose the turn to heal the pokemon
bet money to race! both players roll the dice, winner get some money (if three rounds, first to win twice)
(only if friend) ???? play an event card together (home'rule if needed)
Or they can just walk together with nothing happening...
?-only events from a region can be played there (exclude 3rd game events or equaly mix them in the other decks)
-No "time travel" card (it's effect is used to create the custom game xD) or just reroll your own dice for fairplay

Aww, sad that it's over. The first Master Trainer was a big part of my early childhood. But I suppose it's not truly the end is it? Can't wait to see other weird/obscure/possibly great pokemon board games.

Oh my god! Thank you Jwittz! I've been searching everywhere for the name of Pokémon Island for years! I played it like ten years back with my best friend and it was a rather fond memory, but I barely remember the game and whenever I tried to find it, master trainer popped up instead!
Wait so not every Pokemon is in this game despite every game before it having every Pokemon at that point. . . Galarshadowing. . .

Well, think of it this way: the 3rd board game was a let-down compared to the previous 2 in the same way Ruby/Sapphire was a let down compared to Red/Blue and Gold/Silver.
@@RikoJAmado Every Pkm Gen was a letdown compared to GSC. And Red and Blue were way worse then the Hoenn Generation.

Actually, it was both the worst generation and the worst Master Trainer. Everything past Gen 2 is awful, with some exception for Gen 7.

Yes do Pokémon island! I loved that game when I was a kid. It's actually what taught me about type advantages because I'm pretty sure that's how the battles functioned. It also had the little Pokémon chips too I think.

Watching the first videos reminded me of a game I used to play but I couldn't remember what it was called. As soon as I saw the box I knew it was this one!! We had so much fun with this (even though no one could understand it)
