For those of you who are confused, the airline (Qantas) retired their last 747, and this was its last takeoff and landing before decommission. Edit: happy I helped u guys 😉
Yes, that is the saddest moment when they retired this aircraft. I loved, loved this airplane, it’s my favorite out of all our fleet. She was the best! My most favorite was before they added all the extra seats to make more money. I was fortunate enough to work on it for 42 years before they retired her as a flight attendant . Loved this majestic aircraft. ❤️😢
42 years?! That’s incredible! So many aircraft, so many stories… I bet you were practically best mates with the Queen by that point! That must’ve been hard to say goodbye… if a plane ever had a soul, I’m sure this one was thankful for your dedication. Thank you for your service! And fly high, Queen of the Skies. You will be missed dearly ❤️
No, I think the saddest moment in aviation for the Boeing 747 (since we keep making videos about them) is the discontinuation of all Boeing 747s all together.
I will never forget my first business class flight, which was to Australia and quite possibly on this beautiful bird. I ate a first rate dinner shortly after takeoff, watched a movie, then fell fast asleep for NINE HOURS, without pharmaceutical help, and awoke just in time to snarf down my second meal, as the captain announced our approach to Sydney. I have never been so comfortable and blissful on a plane. She was truly Queen of the Skies. Long live Boeing!
You know that people can get attached to everything if it matters the most to them. Even an airplane retiring gets a lot of tears, one hell of an airplane.

I know the feeling, used to be a flight attendant for SV and I was a 747 flyer, will never forget the day we operate the last flight for the Queen of the skies, all the crew was emotional as we land knowing it will be our last landing with her. What's heartbreaking the most is when I saw the captain kissed the door teary eyed as he exit the aircraft. Very proud that I flew with this beauty. She's an aviation legend❤️
Quantas is such a good carrier, I do recall a 747-400 that had lost all navigational instrumentation going from Adelaide to Los Angeles. Instead of turning around in mid-flight because the captain determined there were no serious safety issues. The Quantas captain radioed ahead to a British Airlines 747-400 flying the same route. The British Airlines captain slowed down to allow the Quanta’s 747 to catch up. The Quantas 747 tucked up to about 300 yards off the British Airlines wing and they flew in formation to Los Angeles. You might have read about it. I might have paid to see that. If I ever fly to Australia, it will be on Quantas.

I worked on the wings for 747 in 1988 to 2000. Then, I was a firefighter for the company until 2014. I most likely worked on this A/P. The company isn't what it used to be before McDonnell Douglas bought the company with boeing money. What you see today is the McDonnell Douglas management.
The pilots did something really special when the last Qantas 747 left Sydney, when looked at on traffic control instruments, their route traced a gigantic flying kangaroo then they set off on her last flight to head into storage….. end of an Aussie era.
My dad is a war vet who served the Army for 24 years flying the Chinook, he finally decided to retire as a 1 star general ,and it was one of the happiest days for our family. It was hard for him because he would never get to fly the Chinook with his crew ever again, he even teared up, but it was worth it. He never been to any of my birthdays, Christmas, and fathers day. It was a bitter sweet day but it's all over ☺️. He flew during the war against Afghanistan and nearly got shot, saved people from hurricanes, and delivered all sorts of bombs and tanks, love him so much, he is the hero of my life
For those of you who are confused, the guy waving out of the top of the plane was the pilot. He jumped off the top of the plane because he thought he could fly.
I had chills down my spine, the 747 was and still will be known as the queen of the skies. It’s so sad having it gone, at least you can see the AN225 in plane heaven. You are most likely the most well known aircraft in the world, watching you go is just heartbreaking. Some people would’ve never even heard of you in the few coming years, and some people would have never flow in one of your many variants. From carrying a space shuttle, to just carrying passengers, the 747 has truly earned its name as the queen of the skies. There have been many instances where it doesn’t just carry regular passengers, but broken a record by carrying 605 refugees to safety. Cargo is also a major thing, and you will hopefully continue doing cargo flights. You will be missed my friend, goodbye 😢

Just out of high school in 1969, took a trip with a friend to Seattle in Aug, saw many 747s at the assembly plant, and some doing test flights. At that time, it was truly amazing. Nothing in the sky's could compare. First impression was that it looked like it was hardly moving in the air, but of course, it was going over 200mph. The 747 was certified by the FAA for commercial passenger service on December 30, 1969. The 747 entered service with Pan Am on January 22, 1970.

R.I.P. Queen of the Skies 747. Your husband and King of the Skies A380 misses you deeply. You will be missed too.
The pilots did something really special when the last Qantas 747 left Sydney, when looked at on traffic control instruments, their route traced a gigantic flying kangaroo then they set off on her last flight to head into storage….. end of an Aussie era.
That "for the last time, you are now cleared to take off" hit hard😢

The saddest moment in aviation was the first time they were taken into war, not them being decommissioned
Yes, so much sadder than all those plane crashes.
That Line "Qantas 74 - 74 For the last time, You are cleared for take-off" Was The Best Line To Say For The Queen Of Flies And The Last One
You listened well bro❤🎉
Goodbye 747. I may have never been able to fly on you but you will always be in my heart, Queen of the Skies.
there not all gone just the qantas ones were retired
The most famous quote in aviation history: "Qantas 74-74 for the last time, you are cleard for takeoff."😢😞☹️
For those of you who are confused, the guy waving out of the top of the plane was the pilot. He jumped off the top of the plane because he thought he could fly.
😲😲
You will be missed my friend, goodbye 😢
that was emotional bro
From a space shuttle to being able to carry 1k+ passengers (this really happened.)
@@LeopardTankEnthusiast correct during a evacuation flight hosted by Israel get people out of a combat zone they packed a 747 that had no seats or cargo full of 1000 people

A memorable moment for sure but not even close to the saddest when you consider some other moments in aviation history.
