  • Follow along as I build a 30 ton Hydraulic Forge Press. This is Part 1 of at least a 2 part series, where I build the bare bones frame, the head, and the hydraulic cylinder mounts.

    I thought that press looked familiar in your Damascus video. 😜. Great build so far! 👏🏻

      Haha...you are a great inspiration, I would not be this far on my journey if it weren't for you, and a few others like you, so THANK YOU!

      @GhostMade217 is there anyway you could send me a list of all the materials you used. I'm looking to build my own press. I'm a veteran and need to save as much money as possible thanks.

    Great video !! I built a press with the help of this video . I just built a second press and the cylinder extends at normal speed but retracts really slow any idea what could be going wrong?

      honestly I have no idea sorry, maybe the solenoid needs adjusted or the press could be binding or dragging as it retracts??? I'm in no way a hydraulics expert just know enough to get myself in trouble haha

      Right on! I appreciate your time, I ended up figuring it out I ordered the wrong control valve it was single acting… thank you!

    Returned to first video after wathcing all 3. Overall - pretty well made press! one thing from original press is missing - angle irons that are protecting gaps between I-beams and moving head from all scale that can fall into that gaps and lead to some issues in the future.
    Also I want to ask - why don't you mount top cyliner holder same way, as you did with bottom one (I mean, why don't you just bolt it to head) ?

    Hopefully that small flux cored wire feeder Hobart got enough penetration given the fact that the hydraulic press puts out tremendous force continuously trying to rip itself apart. I know you were worried about too much heat warping the frame but with proper clamping you really shouldn’t need to worry about that especially with thicker material and clamping. Personally I’d have stick welded that as hot as you can burning in your beads in short lengths and moving around like you did but really laid down some hot and beefy welds instead of a flux cored wire feeder doing multiple passes with lesser welds but I do hope it works out for you

    • @GhostMade217
      @GhostMade217  2 місяці тому

      been going strong for over a year now and haven't torn one weld yet...Ive given it a run for its money too...I did have to replace the 1/4" angle holding the "head" in with 3/8" 3x3 angle because the force caused them to warp and started causing binding...but you're right stick would have been better I just don't have one

      @@GhostMade217 glad it worked out for you, I’ve seen it when the welds fail under pressure and it isn’t pretty
