Sony a6000 is officially discontinued, however it still remains a great camera and great purchase. Check out my other video where I talk about why its still worth buying it: • Sony a6000 Discontinue...
Get your a6000 here: amzn.to/3onsQdy
And this video - check the photo and video samples I have added to this video and suit yourself. Sony a6000, being 6 years old, is probably one of the most popular cameras right now when it comes to beginners. In this video, I am looking at the camera's photo capabilities first and video capabilities in the second part. This is not a thorough review of all of its features, it is more about telling who this camera is for and is it still worth it in 2021.

I am using this camera from 2018, with the kit lens and sigma 30mm f1.4, I'm a professional photojournalist and the 11fps really helps me getting my shots during protests and riots. It's also compact for which I can quickly move around as you know how we have to run/get cover in various cases. Recently I paired a Viltrox 23mm f1.4 with my a6000 and it works great. I literally had zero issue with this camera and I'm hoping to use it for 3-4 years more.
Great video!
Thanks for the nice story Rahadh, it was interesting to read how you are using the camera. As you say - its mostly about the lens you use rather than the camera, but the camera is great too if you dont have to shoot at night or in rain. Cheers!
thank you for writing this! Very good to know, and exactly what I may need it for. ty stranger.
This camera is great for its age
Keep your content on the A6000 going bro. Its been a year since I had the camera, and I am still learning alot especially from you. Bless your heart! Keep it coming.

Would you choose the A6000 instead of a used Nikon D800 ? If so why
I’ve had this camera for a few years now. I’m still learning photography on my very little spare time. I appreciate your review and lens suggestions!

Nice review in 2020.. i own one since 2017.. still a great camera when equiped with sigma E mount lenses series..
Thanks Yus! You are absolutely right, lenses make all the difference and somehow Sigma lenses work particularly well with this camera 👌
I use the a6100's little brother, an a5100 as a gimbal camera. It's light, has a selfie-flip screen, and touch to focus. Perfect for gimbal work. The a6000 is great too. Haven't found a need for anything more powerful. Enjoyed the info ...cheers
Thanks so much for the comment! When you have the gimbal - it solves tone of problems - no need for IBIS or other expensive solutions. Seems like you've figured out your setup 💪
Bruh your videos is insanely good, keep it up. 🔥

Great video, brother!
I’ve had this camera for about 3 years and as an amateur/hobbyist photographer, it is absolutely perfect.
Especially with the Sigma 16mm 1.4 like you said 👌🏻
Thanks a lot my man! You are so right. Its more about the lens you use than the camera. It is very capable and still holds up so well even in 2020. Sigma 16mm is mad sharp on this camera. Have you tried some longer primes? Results are unbelievable!
Toms Jurjaks Absolutely my friend, I only purchased it last weekend and I’m very impressed with it already. I need to try some other prime lenses, I have the 50mm 1.8 which isn’t too bad!
@@DudeWithASnood yeah 50mm is cool too. I paired the a6000 with Sony's full frame 85mm 1.8. Most of the shots in this video is from that lens. Mad sharp and has a really nice compression. Whats your insta? I wanna see your work!
is it better than iphone? I am interested in social media and landscape photos...
Thank you man .... you deserve more subs

hi thanks for this video !!
it was fun to watch and as i'm currently looking around the internet to find a cheap mirrorless camera under a budget, this camera seems really appealing and this video made me even more interested :D
Hey Fatema, it really is an amazing camera and it still will be in 2022 💪
haha, this video is so cool, just an easy going informative video about a camera with no crazy setups what so ever. Totally enjoyed it!
Thanks a lot Kristaps! It was also a loooot of fun making this video and thanks for your help. Im glad how well it came out despite the rain and no script!
@@TomsJurjaks If you ever get a chance can you make a couple of videos to show sony 16-70mm and the 24mm1.8. thats for the sony a6000 model. I'm new to photography and thats the gear I have and people are always talking shit about it. but i feel like you would be able to help me see what the lenses can really do. Thanks
Hey man @@prince2thethrone Are you talking about Sony Zeiss 16-70mm f4 and Sony Zeiss 24mm 1.8? If so, those are fantastic lenses. I own only one Zeiss lens (16-35mm f4) and it is the sharpest zoom lens I have ever had. You must ignore those people and prove them wrong by taking awesome shots bro.
I will be making the video about the 16-50mm kit lens on a6000. Even though its on the cheap end - I want to try to squeeze out the maximum out of it and see what it can do.
@@TomsJurjaks thanks so much
and show more video of you wearing the lowepro backpack...lol... Im considering buying one, at times it seem big,( when you were wearing it. and others it seem small, ( when you picked it up off the ground.
Loving the shots!! I’ve recently made a short video with it, and I’m quite liking it so far. I just wish I could shoot higher than 60fps for slow mo.
Hey Johnny, I totally agree with you. Nothing beats the buttery smooth 120fps. However, the price jump from 60fps to 120fps is almost 2x. I think a used a6300 would be the perfect choice if you are willing to spend more it has 120fps and 4K at 30fps.
I really appreciate the suggestion! I’ll definitely look into it. It’ll be a dream come true to shoot in 120fps 👍🏻
@@johnnychi4337 just so you know, you might be interested also in a6100 (its upgraded version of a6000). Compared to a6300 the a6100 also has 4k at 30fps and can shoot 120fps at 1080p. It has a flip screen if you are into vlogging and is much newer camera than a6300, however a6300 has more sturdy, dust and moisture sealed alloy body and most importantly has picture profiles (slog-2 etc) but doesn't have flip screen. So if you are into serious videos, a6300 is a better option, but for vlogging a6100 is a way to go. Hope that helps Johnny 🙌
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing the differences between the two models, really appreciate it. A6300 sounds like a pretty good investment for an array of projects.
Sure is man! Even tho its from 2014 and discontinued, you almost can't buy it second hand because its just so damn popular! I wish I had one myself. Have fun if you get it 💪

Had this camera from more or less release ,just upgraded to the "6400" and in the main I ask myself .....why? ! , iconic, and still awesome, that why Sony haven't discontinued it.
On a budget or starting out then this is the camera to go for.
Great, honest vid TJ.
That sounds awesome! I have the same exact setup Ed and I never even have a doubt when taking a6000 for a trip (for photos). Great in every way 🙌 but I think they did announce discontinuation of it. Am I wrong? 😯

Great review man tnx
I am very glad you liked it Mehrab 💪
I'm still using it, got a year back secondhand with kit lens for USD 385 in Indonesia. Decent little camera for hobby and even jobs. I'm pairing it with some vintage manual lenses and it's doing great to be honest.
Mate, you are doing great! The price with kit lens sounds very reasonable and with those vintage lenses you can really go with low budget. My first Sony camera was A7II (full frame) and I honestly didn't know that the a6000 is so capable. Been using it for such a long time now. Awesome choice!
@@TomsJurjaks Yeah. I like the compact body & it's capability. Manual focus not really a problem because this camera (and many other sony camera) has focus peaking. It's really helpful when shooting a static and even slow moving objects.
Thanks for the review for a6000. Still pretty good camera for now, just combine the perfect lens and perfect style shooting and make it masterpiece!

I still use it for my wedding photography & Videography. It is still a great camera. With a fast af (compare to the earpy a7 series). The only downfall is it didn't have mic input... other than that. Bad ass camera
I absolutely agree with you. 4k and mic input are the two only things that would make me upgrade but other than that, it performs so damn well. It's truly amazing what that camera can do. And thanks for leaving the comment. Good luck with your projects 🙌
Love you man
Thanks Man! Gonna buy one next day. I have a6300 for main camera and planning to use a6000 for my back up camera.
Good choice Robert! I have a very similar setup (instead of a6300 I have a6400) and the a6000 works amazing as a backup camera!
That's my camera, and I love making my channel videos with it. :D
That is so great to hear Angie! And you have made already so many videos 😯 Well done and keep going 🙌
Hey Toms thank you for everything that you share with us really appreciate it, learning a lot. I've had my Sony a6000 for almost 3 years and it's absolutely amazing never had an issue with it. But somehow It started to create 3 files of each photo per format selected, do you know how can I reset that just to create a normal one file per format?
Thanks keep it up men.
Hey Abraham, thanks so much for your comment 🙌 regarding your problem, I've never heard about this issue. If you shoot RAW+JPEG it would give you 2 (but not 3) files. Have you tried doing factory reset?
@@TomsJurjaks I was looking forward to doing that but just found out that I got my Drive Mode on one of those Brackets Mode, accidentally of course never before I'd consider using those (don't even know what are there for haha) but problem solved.
If somebody ever ask you for this now you know too man, either way thank for replying I appreciate it, keep it up and have a great day.
I'm gonna buy this camera now. Thanks great video!!
Great choice! You won't be disappointed. Good luck 🙌

I honestly am so happy that you will get a new camera, you must be very exciting. Again, thanks for your support and I hope you will put that song in use very soon! Cheers my friend! 🙌
Only downside to the A6000 would be the lack of image stabilization in the body and 4K video... for the rest it's a great camera, just invest in some decent glass !
And the mic port 🙄 IBIS is a luxury feature imo especially for crop cameras and it's not the worst to upscale 1080p footage. But you are right - lens makes the biggest difference 🙌
3:33 scared the shit out of me i thought he was really gonna jump in the water with his stuff lol.. awesome video man
Hahaha well we needed to show how the slow motion works, would be an epic shot actually 😂 Thanks Seulgin 🙌

I was amazed the other day when I realized that the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II was 30 years old already.
Omg you are right 😁 the nifty fifty goes for the win 💪 Its hard to find someone who havn't had that lens actually.
B&H is selling A6000 for $398. What is going on? Will it be discontinued?
Its part of their Fall Sales. There is ton of cameras and dozens of lenses that is getting huge discounts from 100$ - 1000$ off. So its not just the a6000. See it on alphauniverse.com/promos/promo-list/
Recently bought this camera, thanks for an excellent review, subbed
Hey Bren, excellent choice! And thanks a lot for the comment and sub. Means a lot. Cheers 💪
Hey sir. Wanna ask. Did the camera good?
Hey so what would it be your best advice between the sigma 30mm 1.4 and the Sony 50mm 1.8 ? Meaning for both shooting vids and taking picture let's say 50/50. I m a beginner. Kinda confused beginner eheeh. Thank you in advance
I think it is important to consider that the 6100, 6400 are all great cameras but for a beginner especially we shouldn’t get carried away with their features. I think 6000 offers excellent value for money plus when you get a used one, you cannot get better deal! I want to get a 6400 but it costs 2.2X than this! But I guess I will go with this since I can then spend on good lenses for this camera actually!
Hey MegaPrime Gamer - I couldn't agree with you more. I've seen so many people worry over gear while not utilizing the maximum of what they have. Exactly - a6400 and other newer cameras are amazing but they are more than 2x more expensive. Throughout my videos I wish to show that there are other aspects than just expensive gear to make good videos 🙌
Loved the video. Watching it 4th time
Enjoy my friend! 🙌
Best value ever ! I pare mine with old Minolta lenses and yes i print 18x24 often
I agree with you Paul. People are crazy chasing those megapixels, but as you have proven - 18x24 is a big print and 24mpix is good enough 👌

Would an A600 work for recording video of abandoned buildings?
I know you said low light is not the best, but what if you bring lights? as long as I can get 1080p that's all the HD I need. But would you be able to use it in low light maybe if you bring some type of portable lighting? I want to get this for urban exploration and for just daily memory mostly.
thanks for the good review bro

Hi. Thank you for the video. Sample videos are amazing. If I have to compare 6100 or 6400 with Canon 200D mark2, which one do u suggest?
Hey Shahrukh and thanks for the kind words 🙌 To answer your question: I haven't tested the Canon 200D II but I am pretty sure that both 6100 and 6400 are much better cameras.
Sony a6100 is the upgraded version of a6000, but a6400 is upgraded version of a6300.
a6300 is already better than 200D II, so if you are able to pay so much, I would definitely go with a6400. If you have less money, the a6100 still will be a better option. Good luck!
@@TomsJurjaks thanks. I will go with 6400 👍

I would like to get into photography but don’t really know where to start. Would a used Sony A6000 be a good choice for a total novice or are there any other brands or models that I should consider? I prefer the compact size of mirrorless cameras to DSLRs. Thank you for sharing this great video. 👌🏼
100% yes. A6000 is perfect not only for beginners but also intermediate users. Its more about lenses. As you grow - you can get more lenses and it will improve your quality too. So go for it!
Nice review🥰
Thanks a lot Gieza! 🙌
Hey great video! I see you're still replying so I have a question. I picked up an a6400 and love it. My nd filter doesn't come for like another 2 weeks or so but I still want to vlog with mega bokeh (I have 16mm 1.4). Should I just use aperture priority or suck it up for a few weeks and use shutter prio with sharp af background
Hey and thanks! Tbh if its for vlogging, I wouldn't mind too much about having the aperture cranked all the way up. I honestly don't think you will notice. Just make sure its 2x, 4x or 8x more instead of random number. So if you are shooting 25fps, make the shutter speed 1/50, 1/100 or go even 1/1000. Another thing you can do - shoot in 60 or even 120fps. If you shoot 120fps then shutter speed can go 1/250 or again 1/1000 easily. Not s big deal. Definitely not let a piece of glass hold you back!
And btw a6400 rocks! Good choice 💪
@@TomsJurjaks cheers for the reply! I gave some test footage to a couple of mates and they don't care about the shutter speed, they just like the mega bokeh 😂 so I guess that's that until my nd comes 😂
@@TheLTGamer well there you have it! If they can't tell the difference, trust my, unless you are making some mad cinematic movie, others won't notice it too, so just fire away with your mad bokeh 😁💪
