What are your thoughts on the Sony A6000 in 2024?
Especially with a new viltrox 56mm f/1.7 at $139, mirrorless feels so affordable this day.
After learning the menu, Custom buttons are your best friend with this camera.
A6000 is like Lumix G7, a camera for who knows what they're doing, or willing to learn about it. One is good at photo with overheat issue, the other is 4K powerhouse with dinky AFC. But if the person is a seasoned photographer, I'd say go for it and save some cash for a nice lenses or flash.
I will recommend saving up a little bit for A6100 instead though, in case if it's aimed at an average beginner. A6100 is like a pre-cooked meal, easy and good enough.
I got the A6000 with the Viltrox 56 f1.4 and sigma 18-50 just like you recommended on your 2024 Beginner photographer guide and I'm loving it. Thanks to you!
With the right lenses it can still kick a%#
We have the a7r3, a7r5 and FX6 at work. My students still pick this one as their main camera to go shoot LOL. We love it 7 years after it was purchased!
just bought mine thanks to your input:) picked up a white one for $450CAD with kit lens n 2 extra batteries n i love it as a small shooter for on the go photography
I picked up a a6000 along with the sigma 30mm f1.4 last year and I couldn’t be happier. I’m going to pick up the sigma 18-50mm f2.8 next.
I just bought a used a6000 on eBay and bought the sigma 18-50mm f2.8 as well to go with it I want the 30mm f1.4 next too !!!
@@Blakviet05 same here, just bought the 18-50 but in the future, I'll surely grab the 30mm f1.4 for nighttime photography
Exactly what I'll do when I get a a6400
I really need to test out the signs 30mm F1.4 everyone keeps recommending it to me haha! 18-50 will be a great addition 🤙🏻
🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🔝
I have an A5100 and it’s still a great little camera!
A lot of the younger people who only know their smartphones for photography will find it difficult to understand or not believe a ten-year old camera like this can actually take better photographs when compared to the Android or iPhone equivalents.
yeah, i recently sold my camera to switch to iphone but my hands are still looking to hold a real camera. it's just different.
Well my Nikon p900 take better pictures than my s22 Ultra.
@@johnpeohrammeddid you prove flat earth with it. Most folks have.
Kind of sad the market is expensive and finding reliable resellers is hard
A camera close to my heart-my it Sony camera-I bought a second used for an everyday carry camera paired with a Zeiss lens-it’s a timeless piece of camera equipment to have-totally agree!
this is my first camera and im going to recoment it for everyone that wants to start on photography, ive seen this go for below 300 with a kit lens for that price is a steal!
below 300 is crazy
Yup. I've seen them for around 220-250. You can get the 50 1.8 for around 100 used as well. For $350 it's a killer setup. I always recommend this or the Canon 5dii depending on what they want to use it for. The a6000 has wayyy better AF though. The 5dii better IQ and low light.
I still have my a6000. It has been with me for 8 years now; I've used it for travel and work and by now have a pretty good amount of accessories and lens for the e-mount system. Every time I am tempted to upgrade, common sense kicks in: I use it for product photos and travel/street photography, and for that, it is still amazing. I have no complaints whatsoever. It is reliable, DURABLE (still looks brand new and no button or knob is faulty or loose, and the mount is just as robust as ever). I'm not even interested in selling it; that's how happy I am with my camera.
been thinking about it’s usability in work related environment, I myself work in the travel and lifestyle photography business and was wondering about using this for professional work since it’s so convenient
Does it fit in your pocket?
hey Curtis. I'm all the way from Fiji and I don't usually comment on videos but your POV's have helped me find a huge interest in photography. Just travelled to Australia recently and picked up a Sony a7c and a Zeiss 50mm f1.4. Got them both used for quite cheap. Thank you for doing what you do!
That’s awesome to hear! Hope you are enjoying the brilliant setup 😃
The a6000 is obviously still a viable camera in 2024. Looking at the current used price range, the a6300 is also a recommended choice.
I got my a6000 in 2014 when it first came out. It's been great. Only this year did I get a a6700 as well. Now I use my a6000 with a 28mm f2.8 from 7artisans as my grab and go camera for quick shots. I love this camera!
I already own this camera, and just watched this video to boost my feeling of not needing to sell it for an upgrade. If you just like taking nice photos when you go out for a walk, and might want to print a few of them off, this is exactly the camera you need!
For anyone needing a great budget, just starting out camera it's great! Definitely need an upgraded lens in my opinion for optimal benefits. It's what I started out with and loved. I have a 6400 now but will be upgrading to 6700 as soon as I can afford it. Great video as always sir.
why do you want to upgrade your 6400? It's still an amazing camera!
Which lens do you recommend
@@deivytrajan that it is but the upgraded auto focus is worth the upgrade for what I mostly take pics of. 6400 is great and that's why I haven't been in a rush.
@@FictusFilmsPROTrailers Like Curtis says the Sigma 18-50 2.8 is probably the best all around lens to pair it with or the 18-105 f4 Sony. I have that too and was my go to lens before I got the Sigma
My first Sony apsc was the a6400 other than the lack of stabilization it was such a good camera!
I am just getting into photography and I am liking the shots that my a6000 takes versus my cellphone. I dislike how I have to hold my phone because I have a essential tremor, but with the Sony I feel like I can get a better grip that reduces how much I shake. Its usually enough for the anti-shaking stuff that is built into the camera.
One thing I wanted to point out that there is a cell phone app that is like a remote control/viewing for the phone. So you could take your selfies if you wanted with a hot shoe to cell phone converter which are ubiquitous and cheap. I only thought a small number of Sony cellphones could use this feature but I guess its universal for any phone. Anyway this is my first time on your channel so I am going to go through your backlog. I see some stuff I am excited for already.
Whats the name of the app?
@@nezhafahr7490 Image Edge Mobile on android or iOS. Make sure your camera has the latest update because older firmware is janky sometimes with the app.
I got this as my first camera and I love it! It's amazing for me.
I've had it for a few years now and it still suits me for now while I'm still learning.
I agree with the screen... it's a little dim in bright sunlight, but it's not deal breaking.
I'll also have to get that cover for rainy days as i really enjoy taking photos on those days!
Also do you have an affordable recommendation for a 56 or 85mm lens for this camera?
Great to hear!
Sigma 56mm F1.4 is a fantastic lens for this camera 📷
thanks for the video, i just ordered one for 430euros with a 18-105mm f/4 Mid-Range included which i think sounds really good.
Got mine in 2022 after breaking my a7ii. I didn't want to spend a fortune on a FF sony because I didn't shoot much anymore, and I couldn't be happier with the a6000. For my recent trip I got the kit lens for it, which makes it a perfect travel buddy who can fit in my shoulder bag.
I have Sony 5100 x Sigma 18-50, 📸 great pic with it in Gothenburg 🇸🇪💙🤗
I traded a fiddly little Panasonic TZ100 in for my A6000 some time back and couldn't be happier, I wanted the TZ as a simple daily but it was just to fiddly and a right faff to use in manual mode, the A6000 is simple, cheap, easy to use and always gets the shot.. I should add I traded it in with CEX who give a 2 Year!! warranty on used camera kit, as mentioned in one of your other vids anyone buying the Sony, turn flight mode on and switch off the eye sensor for the view finder, saves the battery. Great vid cheers chap 👍
Thanks for sharing that information! Hopefully be helpful to others :) have a fantastic day!
Got mine in 2017, still rocking it in 2024 😎💪🏻
I love the autofocus, especially since I’m coming from a canon t3i
I had a choice of Canon 70D or A6000. I chose the Sony and to this day no regrets and still use this awesome little gem . Paired with proper glass it gives a great result ..
Still use it as a spare camera for portrait. Usually use it with FE50mm 1.8 or FE85mm 1.8
Personally it's the autofocus that is just my small issue with this camera. The new ones are just so much better. Other than that, it's still really good especially with good lens. Wouldn't really notice the difference vs a newer APSC on edited photos if you posted it in something like Instagram.
I bought my A6000 way back in 2014 when it was firsg released and every rime im tempted to upgrade i watch UA-cam videos such as yours, give my head a wobble and know that i really dont need to. It suits me fine for street, wildlife and every day shooting. Ive just bought a Sony 70-350 lens to shoot some sports stuff for my husbamds touch rugby team and getting perfect results. I was very tempted by the A6300 because of the extra focussing and weatherproofing but i think i would feel lke i was cheating on my beloved A6000
I still have mine in silver and literally just got a used, mint Zeiss 24mm 1.8 to go with it. Will keep using it until it breaks honestly, then onto IBIS ✌🏼
I recommended it to a friend since I was under the impression it's still 150-200$, my dude went out and spent 600$ on it. I feel so bad since there are better alternatives. Anyway, still a decent performer today and he loves it
Thank you for this video. Would really appreciate a video on the a6400!
I have used the 6400 for 2 years, I’m happy to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge 👍🏾
Thanks mate! I gotcha covered made on last year. Not making one this year as all the points I made last year are valid this year 🤙🏻
@@CurtisPadley Just watched it now! Another fantastic video thank you Curtis!🙏
Still a very good cam for photo. If you want to make video, pay a bit more and get the a6300 for 4k Video.
Great breakdown! Good for photography for sure! Cheers bud!
Thanks dude!
new to photography want to do it as a hobby and maybe do some payed work would this be the best choice if i had a better lens for a budget of 500-600
Sigma 18-50 F2.8 🤙🏻
I’ve had my a6000 for 6 years now and it’s been great! What model would you recommend as an upgrade to the a6000?
The a6000 is a modern day classic & an amazing camera
I have been trying to get my hands on an A6000/6400 on eBay or Gumtree but they are going for a lot still. Definite strong demand in the second hand market for the A6000.
I bought one at my local pawn shop for $300 and it’s like new condition! Works great. I’m happy with the camera.
I am selling mine, if you want to negotiate ? It’s in perfect condition!
Absolutely right! I love my SonyA6000!
Usefulll review, great photos!!!
Is $650 with kit and zoom lens a good deal for this camera?
the lens point really hits hard but its kind of true. lets be honest, every manufacturer has enough lenses for most people, but its more important how expensive good lenses are at any given used market. Thats something drawing me more towards sony too. body wise? i think i would prever something else. but the sony used market is HUGE. so many lenses for so many different price points and no matter your budget, you can get a lens you need. while with other brands, the lenses are more expensive and the used market is way smaller too, wich means less deals to find.
its kind of sad but its what it is right now. i would prefer something like a nikon, or even a fuji or lumix maybe if i look purely on the body and the specs of it. but then i go about:
okay.. what lenses do i want... and where can i get them for a reasonable price, and the answer to that is always sony simply because their used market is so massive
I still have it, it's a great camera, I only want to change it because of the screen (isn't 180°).
im using the a5100 with the kit lens lol.. getting a prime lens soon though cant wait.
Hi brother.. Do you prefer the Sony A7 I (2013) or Sony A6000 for 90% photography needs, especially for weddings?
A6000
The a6000 is fine, but it doesn't do as well with ISO above 400 as its newer counterparts. It does a great job for what it is but its tonal quality and noise levels just isn't on par with any of the a7 models. But for the price, you're not going to get a better camera. Get a high quality lens and perfect your composition and you'll be happy.
The a6000 is still a capable camera! I’m using the a6700 now but you can still get great results out of the 6000.
could you do a comparison of the a6000 and a6400? also which do you prefer between these 2 for just photography(day and night)?
Any idea what shutter count should I be looking for in a used unit?
The trick to get a little more punch out of high ISO pictures is to set the in-camera noise reduction to low. Yes, more grain, but also more details. I'm now much more relaxed about high ISO shooting since I adjusted that setting. Beyond, for stills, the a6000 keeps shining. One can build a more-than-decent pre-owned camera kit around this body. Samyang 12mm MF for wide angle, Sony 35mm F1.8 for portraits and every day shooting, just to name two...
What is the max ISO you're comfortable with the a6000?
@@korishensi6456 I have pictures in dark situations up to ISO 6400 that I like.
Just got my own a6000 and its kit lens, now i just have to figure out the good way to handle it
Can It be a good buy for landscape and night pictures? I like naturalistic pics and night photography (with a tripod).
I have the A6000. It's my only camera. I use it wit a Sigma DC DN 30mm f2.8. I love this camera though I wish I could afford good/better lenses.
I have an A6000, and I'm seriously considering the A6700. If you can possibly swing it, try to find a Sony 18-105mm F4 used as your next lens for the A6000. I manged to snag one used for $500 Canadian a couple of years ago, and really, it's so versatile, I almost never use any other lens, as it has in-lens image stabilization/steady shot for video, and quite good (though not perfect) optical quality. So you can switch from shooting stills to shooting a movie without even changing the lens. Awesome.
I'd be interested to know if you wouldn't take the same photos or even better with an iPhone 15 Pro Max?
I got the 6300 with all FE lenses, is it worth upgrading to a7r II or should i double the Money for the a7r III instead?
Would you recommend this one or sony zv 1?...My main usage would be photography.
Sony zv-1 isn’t an interchangeable lens camera. You’ll be stuck with a fixed lens. I’d go for this camera. You can always use the lenses you buy if you want an upgrade.
New to photography and looking to buy either a a6000 or a6400. I would mainly use it for street/travel photography. What would you recommend?
Absolutely A6400
wow the A6000 is 10 years old? well in 2014 I was finishing college and I was shopping around for this camera to see if I wanted to dip my toes into the Sony E mount, still, a hair higher than I would like to pay for a 24mp camera with no weather sealing, what I would gain is 4 more FPS and going mirrorless compared to my current body.
Sony a6000 or Lumix g7k for videography?
Ofc lumix g7, it shoots 4K :) unlike a6000 which only shoots 1080p
What about autofocus in videography?
I sold my Canon 650D and bought the Sony A6000 i then paired it with the Sony 50mm FE 1.8 and im very impressed, however im not sure what zoom lens to get for portrait/weddings
Zoom lens recommendations from me would be 18-50 F2.8 🤘🏻
Sigma 28-70 2.8 is my new fav
Cautionate ?
Is it a good idea to buy a Sony a6000 for girt camera beginner photography
A6000 w TTArtisan Autofocus 27mm f2.8 🔥
Sony a6000, Canon 77D , Canon 750D which one better bro ??? ❤
Canon 6d
The Nikon lenses maybe expensive but bud the z 50mm f1.8 s is sharper than anything else I’ve ever used (been shooting a while I’m 56)
You should try the voigtlander 65 f2. It beats that 50 and has the best color reproduction ever.
Hi can you please make a video on landscape photography with APSC cameras?
Thanks m8
Hey Curtis! Do you think you could do a review on the Sony a7ii? I've heard many, many mixed reviews about it
It's a good camera. The AF isn't as crazy good as newer models but it works fine. The only thing I really don't like is the battery life sucks. Buy a few extra batteries.
Hi, what lens would you recommend for me to use when trying to capture 50+ people on a stage? I have the Sony zoom lens 18-105 but I find clarity for all faces in the picture isn't there. What am I doing wrong? Many thanks!!
Curtis do your presets work with any camera system including Nikon DSLR camera's
Yes 🙌
@@CurtisPadley That is absolutely brilliant news thanks for telling me. Do they work with both Lightroom and Photoshop
Dos it record in 4k?
No 1080 but look here to decide #themadcameraguy
amazing video
Thanks!
2025 will be like: ''this camera now has 5 million auto focus points''
me: ''still only using the center focus point and recompose like i always did''
What about the flash
Lively vid, points valid. (To keep Curtis quiet, just tie his hands😊😊.) A6k was my first interchangeable mirrorless cam. It had its issues (replaced body lens flange - DIY job - and quirky hot shoe). Also had cute built-in flash w/tiltable head. One “feature” was downloadable add-on apps from Sony play store (now discontinued). Did your used model come w/any of them?
In addition to e-mount lenses there are a host of adaptable vintage lenses to be used; I used old Pentax and Nikon film cam lenses.
Kit lens has lots of distortion that is corrected in Lightroom - turn off lens correction tab and see. Cheers!
Got any advice to convert video codecs Xavc to rec709 ? Can’t find anything on this camera about that
xavc is a video codec, rec709 is a color profile
Im gonna buy this cam tommorow for 300 usd is it worth 🤥
5:50 holy fuck wow that is a veeeeery shaky image.
Lmao ebay is in split screen while watching this vidand di ding for the best price rn
I’m sick of the a6000 and upgraded to a6500. It’s not worth using it anymore
Good for beginners though
What were your main issues with the A6000? I have one and am seriously considering an A6700, as I already have 3 APS-C Sony lenses. For me, the main reasons I would upgrade to the the A6700 are bigger battery, nearly bullet-proof auto-focussing, and 4K video at 24/30 and 60 FPS.
I'm not impresses with the a6000 - shutter packed up after 13 months and battery life is very poor!
i would say it really depends on what you re looking for. i think as a photographer, only having a 1080p video as an addition isnt even that bad. you know what most photographers nowadays need video for? right... instagram reels to please the algorythm. and what is the max size of instagram reels? 1920x1080.
I was eating cereal and watching minecraft in 2014
I have this camera but my old iPhone 8 takes sharper pictures, I am devastated!! what am I doing wrong? should I buy a different lens? I am heartbroken because otherwise it's a great camera. But sharpness is the most important thing to me.
I'm selling my a6000 If anyone needs one. With AI integrated into Lightroom the low light noisy pictures get fixed.
I am interested
@@tummasmohr7160 sry, I sold it for $250 a couple weeks ago.
Hi, i want to begin in photography and i found an Zv e10 for 130 bucks, is it worth to buy ?
The pictures samples that you put is not realistic
How are they not realistic? I took them with this camera and edited them how I see fit. Editing style is subjective and it’s half the process.
Nikon superior in every way!!
Okay… think you may have your brand confused. This is called a Sony camera. This video has nothing to do with Nikon. I do hope that helps you understand 😆
