@@savage101. I got scammed as a seller on eBay too. I sold fishtank moss with bids. The starting price was £20, the final bid was £80. I got paid and shipped the same day via royal mail, no tracking. Anyway, Two days later, when the buyer was supposed to receive the parcel, I got a message from him "please don't send the moss and provide with refund." I was shocked because I'd already shipped it. And it's a live plant, so it can go only 2-3 days without light and filter. So, the buyer told me that he hadn't received the parcel and requested a refund. I contacted eBay. Because I couldn't provide tracking number, there was no way for me to prove that the parcel was or wasn't delivered. And simple proof of postage wasn't valid, because it only contains information about the weight of the package, date and how much I paid for shipping. Appearently, it's not enough to prove that I had shipped the correct item. For 3! Weeks the buyer sent me messages about the refund. The buyer insisted that he didn't receive the parcel. I contacted eBay again. I told them that I refuse to refund because I know for sure that the buyer should've received the parcel by now. But because I couldn't prove it, eBay issued the refund automatically from my account. Then I received a message from the buyer "🐷🐷🖕🐷🐷". This was the last time when I worked with eBay. I closed my account and swore to never work with them again. Now I sell moss to my local pet shop. It's much much cheaper, but hassle free.
@@alwayshangrygirl463 I once had to go through five different ebay customer support people to get one that even understood what I wanted (a buyer had cancelled an order, the auction was still in the system as unpaid, I wanted it removed), and even then I got an answer that was entirely wrong (she told me it would get automatically removed within two weeks, nope, it didn't, a few months later I found out how to delete it myself). But not sending with a tracking number is the cardinal sin on ebay. Yes, tracked shipping costs more, which might discourage some bidders, but losing your money because you can't prove that you actually shipped something is worse. I don't understand why there are still so many sellers that do that.
Shame on the scammers...and shame on the people who actually watch/follow you, and accused you of selling drugs/human trafficing! You guys are the most humble, amazing human beings ever! ❤
In the texts about drugs and human trafficking I read it as if they did not accuse them but like told stories about it. Like the drug person seems to have a conversation with another commentor and the other seems to just make people aware of how some human trafficking is done
@@marengries7030 Not sure where the text came from but its pretty bizzare if those people are viewers. Anyone watching more than an episode or 2 can get a pretty good idea of who the family is and how they are as people. How does one even get from duck eggs to human traficking and drugs is beyond me or I am just to naive or missing some cultural stuff. Is it some cultural aspect I am missing about the US?
My bit of advice: Set a price that you know is right, then take a wait list of interested buyers. When eggs become available, you have a buyer ready, and you can mail the eggs right away. (I have a few ducks; I care about the life inside the eggs!)
He was using the 24 hour auction style as a fair way for a winner of the eggs to be able to win them since too many channel fans were asking yo buy them when he had so few to offer. He had fair intentions under the circumstances.
Is here no way too have a closed auction on ebay where only whitelisted people can bid? Having a patreon or a newsletter of sorts would be a good way too collect information. Have like a 1dollar fee to get whitelisted
This is like every transaction on eBay. They don’t do anything to make sure the auction goes through but they do everything to tax you if the buyer actually pays.
Ebay are useless at sorting this kind of problem. Things are fine with bona fide bidders and to be fair to Ebay, when it's that kind of situation you don't need Ebay to step in, it's when you need genuine enforcement that it all goes pear shaped and you see just how toothless and gutless they really are.
They can ensure this process with people who have no intention of buying after bidding stops, by forcing deposits, say $100 min balance in account before bidding. if they fail to pay up, they loose the deposit, if they dont win, its refunded, problem solved. people who practise these shill bidding mainly would be discouraged because real money deposit would be non refundable in these cases, and cant be charge-back scammed via credit card. or, just keep a min $100 deposit always on account until someone has legitimate 50 transactions... (even though it can be bypassed with shill auctions of 1p sales or stg like that, it ll still discourage many). Also ebay can be a little flexible on items say, you selling at $100 or more should be offered to certain criteria. A lot of things can be done, if ebay is willing, but not sure they ll bother at all
Those EBay bidders that ran the price up at the end both were the same person that is selling his own Mandarin eggs and he wanted to sabotage your auction/sale. This way he can sell his own at premium prices. You need to block these buyers from ever bidding on your items again.
Hubby said in your settings you can put a block on people who bid on your products if they do not meet certain buyer requirements. Hope this helps and you do sell eggs again! We love your channel 💜
Yes, that's what I thought too. You used to be able to choose how many positive comments (or what percentage of positive feedback, maybe) had to have before they can bid. I don't know if that still exists.
@@xyz12345457 That is super good to know. You have to read every review, too. I just came across a seller who had 5 positive reviews -- all of them fake! The auctions had different names, but they didn't even bother to change the descriptions and the prices for every product were the same $1 and some-odd cents.
This is very true, have to learn a bit more about eBay and all of its setting before you dismiss using it completely, it is still a good sales platform.
Most longtime sellers ALWAYS cancel any and all bids from anyone who has 0 feedback. As a seller you have the option of doing that,( you can also BLOCK the bidder) and put that in your listing, the eBay customer service rep should have told you that ! When you cancel the bid & block the bidder it gets real.
Also the IP address blocking is not going to do anything considering you can drive up the road and use another ip address!! Google will tell you any and all Ip addresses!!!
@@inferlynx737 yeah but snake discovery is a genuinely altruistic channel, they do everything correctly and by the books That’s not really what White House on the hill is about, they want to be able to do auctions so they can get inflated prices, not so that it’s “fair”
Long term ( ebayer 21 years ) - you can go into the deep account settings ( of you - the seller ) and make your "buyers allowed to bid" protocols be someone with high feedback - no recent negative feedback - long time frame on ebay etc . . AND even immediate payment required. THEN when you do auctions - scam bidders like this are NOT allowed to bid. Other options would be to do patreon perks and/or even a "raffle" of some kind - or your own website. But - yes - eBay DOES allow seller control over the people that are allowed to bid - meaning you can sift out the annoying crazy scammers.
As a 72 yr old Vietnam Veteran, who looks forward to your videos, it saddens me how petty nasty people have become. I'm sorry your family had to endure this. After reading the comments having a pre-order list may be the way to go. You might not get the thrill of watching the bids, but you would reap the benefits of your upstanding character of honesty and fairness in your dealings. I am a model railroader and have had the same experience buying for my hobby.
The nice Scottish woman didn't mention one option: you can set the minimum feedback rating for any bidders (try 5 or even 10) in the future. It's there in the setup when you post for sale.
Yes, she definitely did not give Jake the right info. For sure you can go into preferences and make a choice about accepting (or not), bids from ppl with zero sales/feedback. 😳

Scamming Trolls. Nothing better to do with their time but to poop on everyone else's parade. 😑 I look forward to hopefully seeing many beautiful Mandarin duck hatchlings 💕
why the poop do they even bother with ebay?! i sell there and i wouldn't if i had other options,, they take like 13% of the sale ,$350 is a fair price and if instead of pooping correctly on how poopey ebay is he could have just said eggs on sale at our website for $350 or even $400 and it would be snatched up in less than a day,,with 700k subscribers why even bother with ebay, some fans would even be happy to pay a little extra
Thank you so much for sharing your story. As someone who has recently thought of selling some things on eBay, this information is invaluable. You probably saved so many people from being scammed and going through a lot of grief. Thank you again for being open and honest with your viewers.
Ebay should offer an auction format where the buyer must have a certain amount of money preloaded on their paypal account that is withdrawn the instant they win the auction. That would be the only way to protect against this kind of fraud. This isn't the only kind of auction that is time sensitive. So weird.
May be it can be linked to the credit card. So that they cannot create a account without a credit card. Just like a Netflix account where the amount is withdrawn automatically.
@@srinidhit8298 That is a really good idea! The only problem I see with that is there’s so much credit card fraud these days and people could use fraudulent or stolen cards and then you won’t get the sale in the end anyways I don’t think 😢
@@backwooddesignco There is always a way to get around any rule. However, there are also ways to put money in escrow in advance. That's what they do with home sales. Ebay is a big company, so they could do something along those lines with big ticket/time sensitive items.
@@robinlillian9471 Exactly! They don’t all have to be like that, but they should give you the option for that format of auction on time sensitive items. Such a shame this happened
If I'm not mistaken, you can exclude any bidder from bidding if they don't have at least 10 positive feedbacks. I remember this option from a few years ago. This should be a question you would ask a knowledgeable ebay rep.
Thanks for having the courage to be transparent and and expose this problem and these people that are doing this hopefully your tenacity will pay off as far as stopping these sort of things from happening! What a low-down thing to do to somebody. Hope everything works out for you guys.
I personally would’ve sold it to the last legitimate high bidder. You can also create a “buy it now” price and keep the auction up but if someone wants to pay $500 so be it.
You need to sell future clutches of eggs via pre-ordering methods. In other words, make people buy eggs now for the next time they lay eggs. So that you'll essentially be paid in advance. If the customer doesn't pay, we do not have to worry about ruining any eggs.
You have to deposit for a kitten. Why don't you have to for expensive eggs? And if they don't pay on the day you specify, incubate the eggs yourself, keep their deposit, plus at least some money, and plus ducklings.
This is the smartest comment I've seen so far. I totally agree. You could take it one step further and say that buyers will be picked randomly and if they aren't picked they get a refund.
@@jhund81001 how is this the smartest? Literally almost every comment suggested the same thing. WHOTH was hoping to manipulate people into paying inflated prices, you can’t do that with a pre-set auction.

Everyone upvote this also.. she is wrong... You can put bidder restrictions on.. meaning if the person has any strikes on the account for unpaid items or other issues they cannot bid.. also better than that you can exclude buyers who don't have previous sales. It's your auction listing you can decide who bids.. I believe you can also retract a bidder if your suspicious.
That is the way it used to be and maybe still is. Either that lady is wrong or they changed things. It may also be that he has had enough sales to have that option available to him. n I went through this same crap and is why I stopped selling on Ebay. The hassle and power given to buyer and non paying bidders is deplorable
On eBay you can set buyer requirement based on their feedback. So sorry this happened to you! As a seller myself, I understand the frustration of a bad experience, but don’t give up. You can contact the last bidder to see if they want a second chance offer. Best of luck & blessings to you and your beautiful family.
You should offer presale through a patreon.. or through your website…that way the eggs are paid for in advance for the following season- before the eggs are even laid.
Everyone upvote so they see this! You know you can just offer the eggs to the last real bidder right? Especially if you contact eBay about shell bidding.. the last person who offered 340 you can finish the deal with for 340.. ALSO you can put restrictions on your auctions... Like buyer must have 3 previous purchases.. and also buyers without strikes for unpaid items.. it would have made it so the one account could have never bidded.
@Linda White - Did you listen to the whole video? He did go to next high bidder, who did not respond fast enough. There wasn't time to continue going down the bidders. The eggs had to be incubated, so he did it & will be offering ducklings for sale later.
Man that really really sucks. There are always these types of people who just ruin a genuine bid and you can do nothing about it. I hope in the near future there will be some changes with the bids where scammers can’t mess with the bid at all. I had this problem once on eBay and I was trying to sell a ps3 since I already had another one and it was at 50-100 dollars and went up to 10k and basically they did exactly what they did to you. Keep up the good work btw!

U can cancel the order and then offer the highest genuinely bidder a second chance at the item . U used to be able to auctions so bidders had to have a set review or star rating or over a set age or something
So sorry this happened to you. It’s sad that someone is just so inconsiderate not to think or not care how this would affect your sales or the urgency of time for the eggs to hatch. This aggravates me to see good people get done so dirty. May God Bless you even more.
Hey Jake :) As someone who sells on ebay there is no way we know of in which you can block buyers with no feedbacks or recently created accounts but there a setting on you account preferences in which you can block buyers who cause and amount of cancellations of unpaid items within an amount of months and the other is you can block buyers who are winning from 1-10 of your items in the last 10 days (this works well if you do various biddings of different eggs in the future. You can also like you did contact the person you know is legit and make a private listing for them (as in create a listing with their username and send them by message) I can also say you can always go ahead and do maybe a live bidding on facebook or somewhere along those lines where you can be sure and see the person :) Hope this helps a bit! Stay safe!
@@mrprohunterable well obviously, but now no one got them & no one will till next yr, sadly. But setting a price would eliminate those crappy people, he has no control over.
Multipile Problems with it: You have to set it low to sell it fast as these are time sensitive eggs. If you set it at $350 you might not sell it in a day where as a 24h auction will be over in 24 hours. On important goods you will be accused of price gouging if you set a price. If you set it at $0.01+free shipping then is it really price gouging if people bid it to high heaven? Now, i think price gouging is s very good thing but i also understand basic economics but if others bid a bottle of water to $1000 is that really price gouging if you started it at $0.01+free shipping? Of course many would say yes and still think you're the devil's reincarnation but at least you have an argument. He also has a UA-cam channel with multiple fans. A auction let's everyone participate. A auction more accurately sets the true market value.
From now in the description let people know that if someone does this in the future you will just contact the highest bidder with a valid account that wasn't just made and has good verifiable feedback.
I'm so sorry this happened, I think it's best to raffle them off, maybe do $5 for an entry and do a limit of 100 people so you at least get some money for them and people who actually want them can get the option to.
Not a bad idea but he'd have to pay attention to youtube's terms of service and raffle/lottery laws. There's a reason business say 'no purchase required'. It's because of how strict those laws are and how bad the consequences can be.

He would need to check Ebay rules. I think EBay might prohibit pre-sales. I know someone who lost their account for selling something they didn’t have in their possession. They were leveraging buying something from someone else and when that fell thru they had to yank their auction and then multiple bidders complained about it and the person admitted they were pre selling something and EBay said it was against platform rules. It was awhile ago so may not still be true.

So sorry this happened to you guys!!! Scammers are everywhere! And all you can do is move on and know that you are responsible, caring people! Hopefully, the eggs will hatch and you then can sell ducklings! Blessings to you!
Sorry this happened guys. There is a way to setup eBay so you pick who can bid on your items. Personally I have set it to 5 so anyone under 5 positive feedback can’t bid on my items due to having so many new accounts win and never pay. If you can figure out how to do this eBay could still be a good way to sell
It’s near impossible to get rid of these scammers because they can make multiple emails addresses. Other than that I hope everything else goes well with the family.
If Ebay doesn’t have this feature already, maybe they could add a setting for sellers so only let’s say: people that have purchased things from you before can participate in the sale, or something relatively close to that? It’s just a thought

I buy on eBay all the time with no problem but there was one new seller I won the bid for a simple beaded bracelet for just under $5. They never shipped it and I emailed them many times. eBay customer service tried repeatedly to help and contact the person and finally said they couldn’t help. The person was a new seller and this was their first sale. I took a chance. You live and learn. I figure karma will get them. Good luck in the future. Love you guys!
eBay deals with all kinds of scammers. All kinds. They have been down this road before, and have set up filters for you to use, to block this type of buyer. You are new to Ebay. You will learn with time and the experience that comes with it.
Wow, ebay support actually claimed that "IP Address" would prevent the scammer from creating a new account ?! Do they think we are living in 1998 ?? Haven't they heard of VPN or dynamic IP address internet services ?! ebay is a company stuck in the past! there are tons of ways to prevent these sort of scammers from abusing their platform ... they don't deserve your business. Here's a suggestion: use Shopify Auction on your own website ...
What I would do is set a high price like 500 then have a make an offer option. Alot of sales are set like that. Then you can control who's offer you get and if someone wants to pay full price you get a idea of pricing.👍. Easy done.
Things like these can really shake one's faith in people, there are many evil people out there. It has always been the case since the dawn of time. Greetings to you and your family from Switzerland.
She really said “we block the ip address” lol, like who doesn’t know about vpn’s. eBay is not nearly proactive enough against these issues. They would rather spend the money on customer service, a reactive response being the cheaper solution. You even tried to offer solutions and they were just met with excuses. Customer service should be able to help you, but these eBay employees are simply paid to give out apologies, not help. Things aren’t going to change there anytime soon. Hopefully you can find another platform/app to use. Best of luck, cheers!

And also to let people know how careful they have to be selling on platforms like eBay especially with time sensitive items. And if by chance whoever raised that price the way they did sees this shame on you. Maybe in the future you can look at what eggs are going for on other platforms and set a price for that year and put in a waiting list of people who would like eggs from your Mandarin ducks or any of your animals for that matter at a fair price I understand that everybody will get what they want but at least it'll protect these lovely animals.

This is a good plan
This! It's the way legitimate dog breeders work too. Get your customer list first, then when you have the eggs, verify and get payment then ship.
Great idea..!!!..👍
$100 executive hundred dollar eggs $100
But that removes the point of bidding (the chance of the bids going higher than expected with novelty and rarity)
SOLUTION:
Start a patreon! This way you can advertise eggs to loyal subscribers and not to everyone publicly!
He was using the 24 hour auction style as a fair way for a winner of the eggs to be able to win them since too many channel fans were asking yo buy them when he had so few to offer. He had fair intentions under the circumstances.
Or just setup a shopify website
Is here no way too have a closed auction on ebay where only whitelisted people can bid?
Having a patreon or a newsletter of sorts would be a good way too collect information. Have like a 1dollar fee to get whitelisted
He should set up a patron and do raffles instead
@@hurpdurp1254 Good idea. I believe there may be as I've had sellers send me private auction offers.
A lot of things can be done, if ebay is willing, but not sure they ll bother at all
@@mytester6208 OMG that's actually a genius idea! That would work beautifully

Ebay should offer an auction format where the buyer must have a certain amount of money preloaded on their paypal account that is withdrawn the instant they win the auction. That would be the only way to protect against this kind of fraud. This isn't the only kind of auction that is time sensitive. So weird.
Exactly!
May be it can be linked to the credit card. So that they cannot create a account without a credit card. Just like a Netflix account where the amount is withdrawn automatically.

Multipile Problems with it:
You have to set it low to sell it fast as these are time sensitive eggs.
You can also block users you think are fake in the same location. I hope this helps and I thank you for all the Joy your videos bring into the world!
I am so sorry you and your beautiful family had to go through this. Please stay on your toes there is some really not nice humans out there. I will be praying for you all. Hugs and Love, be well and safe.
Perhaps you could do a raffle for the next clutch to sell? Set an entry price per ticket and limit of tickets then just randomly pick one. Then they’re already paid for and someone that might not of been able to pay for them otherwise could get a chance to buy them.
depending on the local government there is a lot of regulations and fees to run a raffle.
Maybe doing auctions on the fb hatching groups? I've seen that work in other groups, and you are less likely to get fake accounts!

This is a "normal" scamming method on ebay. I saw this a lot of times at my work . As long the verification of a person is not improve, this will happen again, sadly :(
