I love the simplicity of my 3.8l. Easy to work on and cheap replacement parts. No cam phasers, high pressure fuel pump, oil cooler or cylinder deactivation.

For the valve cover, unfortunately the exhaust side is a little close to the manifold, but at 14 years old, mine is still not cracked. But I appreciate your video and might get new covers when I see a leak.

Dave, thx for the video. I have replaced oil pan and valve cover gaskets a few years ago on 2004 caravan with about 200k miles. All good so far. The rear exhaust manifold heat shield is disintegrating pretty bad. Should I be concerned? Would be extremely difficult if not impossible to replace I think.
Hey Dave. I actually replaced about a year ago on a friend’s 2010 dodge grand caravan the valve cover gaskets. I used fel-pro gaskets and they sealed just fine. The covers were still in good shape, but the gaskets were leaking. Still no leak to this day.

It does…..over the years I have seen more 3.8 engines than 3.3 so kind of slipped my mind. Modified the thumbnail and title to make mention of that. I mainly see the leak on the wranglers and those came with the 3.8
@@MotorCityMechanic I changed my oil at 3k and didn’t burn a drop of oil.. loved that engine. The tranny was crap, rebuilt it at 100k and it was due again. It was on a caravan.
Always nice to see you post Dave. Have you seen any uptick with 6.7 Cummins grid heater probe problems? I understand that the nut on the bottom of the heating probe can come loose and make its way into the cylinder. Any thoughts? Thanks
@@MotorCityMechanic It seems it's on a certain year range and happens with higher mileage so it's possible people are fixing it on their own or it doesn't make it's way into the dealer being out of warranty. Thanks for the reply Dave.

Lol thanks for the reply. I have one I have to remove. I think this time I will try a small hooked pic to pull the grommet from between the valve and the ridge inside the hole. Anyway, great channel been watching for years, learned a lot. Been waiting on a video on what to do about a clunky whiney Getrag Challenger differential!
@cobraninetysix3883 I have the Getrag 226 in my '14 Challenger R/T. Can't seem to locate a rebuild kit, and I don't want to drop 2 grand on a new diff assembly. A friend suggested Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-110. After the drain & fill, the whine wasn't totally eliminated, but was greatly diminished. Same thing in my '15 300S as well. Just my 2 cents.
@@EarlSinclair97 tried that route. I have the 13 SRT 392 Dif. Dealer changed it due to the clunk and then I got it back with a clunk and a whine. They wouldn’t replace it again. Fought like crazy but no luck. I tried the the upgrade to the heavier weight and it didn’t make much of a difference. Whats strange is that in the cooler weather, it’s not as loud, but in the summer months I don’t even wanna drive it because it gets really annoying. I believe that there must be thermal expansion within the aluminum housing possibly causing the whine where the lash may be out if spec when the gear lube and the housing heats up. Gonna check with some specialists because based upon my research, ya can get a new one and end up with the same problem. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Very true…..a few oil leaks for sure, most common is the oil pan gasket. I have replaced more 3.8’s over time then 3.6’s however

Yeah the 3.8 usually starts burning oil when the mileage gets hight…..rings or valve stem seals typically

i love my 2008 t/c 3.8 litter but i have to add 1qrt of oil every 600 miles you are the guy to ask
The 3.8 eventually starts burning oil internally. Possible valve stem seals or piston rings.

I put 200k on my 3.3. Loved that engine.
They can get a lot of miles for sure…..typically by then rhey are burning oil internally

What about the 3.6 ?
Haven’t seen any melt. Exhaust manifold is behind into the head and there is just a flange where the converter bolts too
