Great informational video! A tip that might help out. you might want to burp the system by leaving the cap off an letting it idle up to operating temp while keeping the tank full to the cap. You can also squeeze the upper rad hose while it’s running and up to operating temp a few times an it should bubble an you’ll see the coolant level go down just keep filling until it stops bubbling. Hopefully that’ll keep you from getting out somewere away from home an the truck running hot on you. If you struggle to get the air pockets out any parts store sell a burping kit. It kinda looks like a funnel check into if you need to. Love your videos keep it up!
I have the same truck but only have 39000 miles on it and I saw that light on once , I bought antifreeze opened the hood and it was full light hasn’t been on since lol . Thanks for the info 😎
I guess it's my turn. I got the Low Coolant message on the way home from work today. 2019 with 22k miles. Geez. I had saved your video several months ago when I was considering buying a used 2019 thinking that one day I might need your video. Well, I guess I was unfortunately right. Thanks for all you do in sharing your experiences with the 17-19 L5Ps.
Great job, the part when your like “and now I’ll take the battery out” made me laugh I don’t know why. Watching this in the hotel room in Goshen, tomorrow I’ll be getting my first load. Excited to get started on this adventure of RV transport.
@@CFarmer well I couldn’t take my first load because my insurance was messed up🤷♂️, got that all situated hopefully I’ll be taking my first load tomorrow.
Excellent info. Great to watch a job being done step by step. Looking at how closely packed the engine bays are nowadays, it makes me long for that old '65 C-10 with the straight 6...open the hood, climb in the engine bay and stand on the floor to change the plugs...😁
Thanks for another great video Charles. I just took delivery of a brand new 2022 L5P Duramax. The new 10 speed transmission is absolutely seamless. You will love the new combo.
I just replaced mine, along with both batteries and I went ahead and did the coolant flush. The air box doesn't need to come out. As long as the battery is out, that's enough room to work.
Well I wish mine was the same problem apparently it’s not cause I had the coolant tank switched out. For a solid week rolling around no coolant messages then bam back again. Some months later noticed visible leakage. I’m a Chevy lover but after getting my new/used truck and it causes more problems then my wife that’s a huge problem.
About to do mine as well; been clearing the warning message on my '17 for about 2 1/2 years now. Found several places to purchase parts for these trucks on line and occasionally I'll find parts even cheaper than Amazon, but it still beats dealership prices. The job looks to be as simple as I thought it would be, but good tips on the extra stuff that needs to be disconnected. Only thing dealership told me was to make sure the air was out of the system or I wouldn't get heat come winter. Was wondering if the air box had to come out before getting the battery out though..... Nice work!
Good video. I just done mine on the dodge yesterday but my light didn’t go off. I don’t know if I got a bad sensor or what. I guess when I do another round I’ll take it back off and try it again
I missed the part where you said that it fixed or didn’t fix the problem… 😬 So did fix it ? Cause i have the same exact issue on a 2018 Chevy Silverado 3500hd LTZ Z71 Midnight Edition…
I don't have any warranty. I have looked at 3rd party warranties and heard good things about a few but i have had a couple of bad experiences with warranties not covering
Awesome man I just had the light come on on my truck. That’s crazy. Canister is not old enough to shit the bed. I may get a flush then get a new canister. God dang sucks that ya can’t just go buy a truck anymore. I love these trucks but eventually we will be forced to buy that new junk. I am almost to the point just cave and get a ford f150 mini van or just go full in and get a Toyota car, save my money. Rent a truck when I want to drive one. I have lost close to 100k in past 7 years and now I o 45k on this truck. Why ! I hope someone builds quality again and puts them all out of business. I guess for now I will buckle down and grab the KY jelly and take it like a man. Live with this truck as long as I can until it gets taken from me. I’m going to pass this truck down to my daughter, long as some insurance company don’t f me over or something like that. New trucks compared to the 17-19 is like comparing a Tacoma to a 1998 Z 71 Ok I’m gunna let it go but I could go on for a long time. Just going to keep praying we get some real engineers back a men!
Hey Mr Farmer, Thank you for posting this video. I am about to have to perform the same procedure on my truck soon as well. I do have one question if you don’t mind? When refilling antifreeze did you fill only top reservoir and let it pull into lower section? Or did you have to fill both upper and lower reservoirs? Thank you again! Awesome video!
Thank you! I only filled the top then after it ran for a while i opened and closed the cap on the side. You should see coolant move from the top tank to the bottom tank. I did that multiple times and would add coolant if needed but I never looked up the correct bleeding procedure. Coolants always full and no low Coolant light
If you do run into any issues send me an email or message me on Instagram but i think it'll go good for you. It feels writer's not having to clear the code all of the time. I should've done this a long time ago
To the best of my knowledge, the bottom is just overflow the sensor is in the top. I filled the top tank and kept an eye on it. I had to add coolant a few times and over time the bottom tank pulled some coolant down. I haven't tried to add any directly to the bottom tank
@@CFarmer thank you so much , I have really enjoyed the videos , I have a Autel 808 and I can’t figure out how to change my tire size to the the odometer correct , any directions or advise , I try to stay away from dealership , I have changed some things just not real sure on programmers or deleting anything , truck seems solid as is … thanks Steve
