IT BEGINS! The Truck Market CRASH Of 2024

  • The truck market is falling off a cliff. Chevy has discounts on almost every new truck. RAM is offering up to 20% off MSRP. Ford is still loaded up with 2023 model trucks. And Toyota is overflowing with 2024 Tundras. The truck market crash of 2024 has just started and the market has already taken a massive dive. Dealers are hurting after a slow month of sales in January and after all the price gouging from dealers the past few years, Truck prices are finally starting to fall. This could be a huge win for truck buyers in 2024 So in this video I'm going to RAM, Toyota, Ford, Nissan (RIP Titan!) and Chevy to see what prices are like, how much inventory they have, and if there are any discounts that make buying a new truck right now... actually worth it!
(i also bought a truck, so If you stay to the end, you'll might just see something really cool)
Check out the truck I just bought!

I work at the largest dodge/jeep/ram/fiat dealer in the state of iowa. I work in the collision center and we had a big dealership meeting where the gm said they had 55 million dollars in new inventory and are paying 7% interest on them and how they need to sell them hahahaha. Then they sent salesman to go around to all the other employees to try and sell us new vehicles, i straight up told told the salesman if they took 30k off the trucks maybe I’d consider buying one. They’re gone immediately and usually sold before they hit the lot.

Those prices are insane to me. I bought a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 10 years ago with 78,000 miles on it for $6.000. I paid it off in about 18 months, and I have been driving it with no monthly payment for about 8.5 years since it was paid off, and it still runs good with 168,000 miles on it. It has the 2.5 four cyl engine with the 5 speed. And it is good on gas, I get 20mpg in the city with it.
I can not even imagine paying $75,000 for a truck, that is more than my Fathers house is worth. He has a 3 bedroom 1 floor 1 bath ranch style house, with a garage and it was valued at $65,000 last year. It is not a mansion, but it is a nice little house for a family with 2 kids.
I can not even see myself going to a bank and asking for a $75,000 loan to buy a truck, that is just crazy to me. The cost of living here is pretty low, and you can get a nice small house for $60,000 to $80,000, so the thought of paying $75,000 for a truck is just madness to me.
I personally would never pay more than $40,000 for a truck, at the most. I got 10 years out of my current truck and it only cost me $6,000.

These manufacturers have huge teams that do market research to ser how much consumers are paying. They'll know how low they need to go in order for us to start buying cars again. If everyone would hold the line and not buy at these prices I can almost guarantee you that average prices for trucks would come down to $40k. The prices should still be around those areas. As a 28 year old that works his ass off, makes $40 an hour, and still can’t even fathom buying a house or putting myself into debt on a brand new truck, it’s ridiculous. All the things that used to be regular life milestones are now too expensive to even afford. All while wages have stayed the same. I feel bad for my kids because i can only imagine what it will be in another 20 years. Greed runs this world and it makes me sick.

I hope you still have those trucks! Those are REAL trucks and with a bit of work (new/upgraded motor, beefing up for capacity, etc) would compete with these new trucks (probably even beat them on reliability) for way less money. Mid 90s was the end of real trucks for real men.

I bought a 2002 GMC Denali with 4WD -and- 4 wheel steering with 6.2L engine and tow package with tach on dash new for $40K in late 2001. There were few options. It came fully loaded. It was considered an outrageous price for a pickup at the time. It's an adult now -- 21 years old and still going strong. No significant maintenance issues. It has picked up a few minor scrapes. I'm happy with it.

Some are only like $2,000 discount, which is insanity. And remember, this is a 2023 model! These dealers are clinging on to the crazy over priced trucks and they are so greedy, it's maddening.

New truck prices are still insanely high. I felt ripped off when I bought a 2020 4WD used with 40K miles, but in excellent condition 18 months ago, but the same pickup new today is double the price that I paid for the used one. The dealers in my area are not offering any real significant discounts on most new trucks, but their lots are overflowing. The price crash is coming, but is not here yet--it will be. Many new car dealers today are surviving only because of their service department business. One dealer in my area laid off nearly all of their salespeople, but have hired 5 additional mechanics--people are repairing the vehicles that they own and the service department is always backed up 7-10 days on appointments, even with the extra mechanics that they have hired.

This I think is the last of the best reliable Tacoma's and its probably my last new vehicle because I will be retiring in a few years time and I wont qualify to finance any more vehicles at these prices not working a job. Every auto UA-camr claiming the market is crashing. I don’t see it at all. Sure, there are some slight discounts to be found. But even the used truck market is still raging. Prices have gone up on the used F150s in the last couple months. I’ve been looking for a used 2017 or later Lariat with under 60k miles for months. They are still well above $30k. I seen a couple drop into the high $20s around Christmas. But now back up again. MSRPs up against for 2024. My days of owning decent low mileage vehicles is over. Insurance premiums have tripled for us in Florida in the last five years as well. I’m going to find a beater and just do my own maintenance.

Prices aren’t going to come down without a recession as bad or worse than 2008, at least this is what I think.
In everything since 2020 we keep hearing “prices will have to come down” yet they’re still selling vehicles, houses, etc.
They just going to high prices and low volume vs lower prices and higher volume to stay in business.
If people buy all these things and overextend themselves it may happen again though.

From a business perspective this is asinine. Both the dealers and manufacturers need to discount deeply to find a pricing level to move this inventory.
