      Hey Brother. How do you feel about using Paint stripper/Pressure wash to strip away old paint as opposed to sanding in preparation for primer? Any drawbacks to using something like ultra aircraft paint stripper?

    As someone who does painting & collision repair for a living the only two suggestions I have are to use a wax & decreased between each grit of sandpaper to clean the surface and to tape off the lights & door handles if you're new to using a dander, it will prevent some unwanted damage. Looking forward to seeing you bedline the truck!

    I've just come to your channel and I'm enjoying it so far, I'm a but disappointed you haven't repaired the dent on the front wing. I know it's a work truck but for a matter of a couple of hours it would look much better.

    • @JamesDguy
      @JamesDguy  9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks and yeah I get that comment on a lot of things. Some of these dents on curved surfaces im not good at fixing because it’s on body lines. I am not a pro at body work I actually hate doing body work because by” fixing” it I sometimes make it look worse. I usually just replace the entire panel as I did with the driver door, front right fender, the entire truck bed and this one was in far better condition. I am probably going to fix the little damaged spots that are left like the fender and other areas but if I don’t get it perfectly straight it will be okay because it will probably get dented right back up. We will see what happens. Thanks and God bless

    Painted my car with rustoleum thunder cloud grey 2 weeks ago. Plan on scuffing it down with 800 then clear over it with 2k. Will there be any reaction? I read that rustoleum takes a long time to cure and some got reaction to spraying over rustoleum after a couple of days.

    • @JamesDguy
      @JamesDguy  9 місяців тому +2

      I like to wait a month for it to really gas off or whatever they call it. I have a video of my 2K clear going over my spray can ep3 paint job no reactions on mine. If it’s the 2X paint it might react and idk why the 2X rustoleum sometimes reacts but sometimes it won’t. The advance formula and the high performance enamel do great with a 1000 grit wet sand and clear

  • @lancebrantlinger-tommy3558
    @lancebrantlinger-tommy3558 9 місяців тому +1

    I’m currently working on a 91 Firebird that has paint issues exactly like you have with that truck. I used 180 grit to sand it down and going to use I believe 320 after. So, you don’t use primer first before the spray paint?

    • @JamesDguy
      @JamesDguy  9 місяців тому +1

      Depends the paint but rustoleum has great adhesion if using the advance formula or high performance enamel. I if the vehicle has multi colored panels I prefer priming the entire vehicle to be the same color before laying on my paint. This one is going to be primed the entire thing since it has multicolored panels and I want good adhesion. But no, I don’t always use primer and I don’t have issues when I don’t. It’s different from spray gun paint where a primer is necessary.
      I have had other brands like Krylon and duplicator flake off without a primer, but oleum doesn’t have that issue and I’m not quite sure why but it does save me money sometimes lol

    • @lancebrantlinger-tommy3558
      @lancebrantlinger-tommy3558 9 місяців тому

      @@JamesDguy Thanks for the reply. This will be the second car I’m using Rust-Oleum on. First one was on a 84 Corvette. It’s flaking in parts and at times I get blisters. Not sure why. Anyways, I’m going to be using the rustoleum that has the 5 settings on it. So, you think since this is a one color car, I’d be fine just ditching the primer and just go with the paint?

      I use acetone, diluted, 10:1 ratio, wipe it vertically, then flip the rag and wipe horizontal, fold the rag, repeat that so it’s gettin wiped 4 times, then take a dry rag and wipe it before it dries up on its own. Will leave it clean. Then I tack it down with a tac rag, blow it with some air, tac it again, and it’s ready for paint. Just don’t wanna be too careless with that 10:1. That’s what works best for me. I don’t use rattle cans tho idk too much bout doing it like that.
