YALL KILLIN IT!!!!! THE WEALTH OF INFO IN THESE NEW VIDS IS EXPONENTIAL!!!! THE INTERVIEWS/ADVICE YOU PUT TOGETHER FROM THE EXPERTS IS UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! GOOD LUCK.... LUVYALL!!!
Hi guys. I’ve been really impressed with your series on buying your next boat. You are thoughtful and well organized (something I appreciate in these kinds of activities) but the most impressive bit is how gracious you have been. A lot of participants made this series work. Good production. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
You guys have evolved into one of the best UA-cam sailing channels on the planet...your pieces to camera are so well done and informative and are a testimony to your intellect, your ability to articulate in an effective, meaningful and pleasant manner and bring your viewers into your inner circle. Bravo and congratulations...can't wait for the exciting boat choice and upcoming sailing episodes. Woohoo👍
Jordan...I've never been more serious: KEEP MOM COMFORTABLE. What She is willing to go through to provide you a family is a much bigger thing than we can even comprehend.
Your boat is your home. It is your house. Houses have spirits. Think back to when you were aboard the boats and remember what the boat said to you. Remember your feelings and go with the one that spoke directly to your heart. This is how I've purchased the different houses I have lived in and have had wonderful happy experiences in all of them. Be well stay safe.
This was the most well produced and informed video on the boat selection process I have ever seen...seriously. Outside perspectives and important considerations, trade-offs for different objectives...I'm somewhat selfish as this whole series has "validated" my purchase, not that I needed that, I'm still head-over-heels in love with my V42 which I took delivery of finally last summer. Bernie hooked me up with a less than 20 year old, lightly cruised, essentially fully outfitted, well maintained and freshly yanmar 57 re-powered boat. Arch, enclosure, dinghy, solar, genset, watermaker, etc. at a "pre-covid buyer's market" price. I was hoping you could find the same. I wish I could sell you mine. I look forward to watching you enjoy yours.
Hi guys, I am not a sailor but a husband and father. So my only advice is when it comes to livinig with you wife and kids in a confined space. The most important thing is... tada ... a happy wife. So go with Valiant 42. I am enjoying your channel. Kind regads from Germany
Do what you can to make your wife happy. If it's not for the best be prepared to say why it's not and give alternatives. It's worked for me for over 32 years.
Great and very informative series. Not a sailor, but a parent of three. They start out small but get bigger and often need their own space so seems to me the bigger living area will be more practical in the long run
Hi Buds, based on your own critera I'd go for the PS40: 1) Computer/nav stn much better suited to your needs, and videos produced here are important sources of income; 2) deck layout is handier and has safety features that will protect you in the inevitable big blows you encounter at sea; 3) a roomy main salon that provides a safe place for little kids to play; 4) an extra $30k in the bank is a nice buffer against unexpected expenses. Good luck, whatever your choice.
@Gus Erland I have never seen so much planning for possible/probable future events and they are making so many assumptions about how their kids will want to share space. I hope that their children are perfect, because so much has been thought out for them already.
It’s been really interesting to see your approach to boat selection and I think you’ve done a great job picking the two boats. Either is a great choice. It is easy to want to get a bigger boat, especially after seeing all the living space on Delos and La Vagabonde, but you seem to understand the trade offs and know what you need. I’m looking forward to hearing about your new boat and seeing how you outfit it for your needs.
First of all, I only found you guys because of the very first sailing channel that I started following years ago..."Sailing SV Delos", so I thought it was neat that you tapped them for advise. I'll go vote (and it has nothing to do with the ever-beautiful Desiree), but I feel like the Valiant, because of its build quality, makes me more comfortable about the two (or 3 or 4) of you crossing the blue someday. I want you guys to have the safest boat possible for you and your future family. I'm almost sad that the search is ending though because it has been an adventure in itself. Love you guys!
Valiant vs, Pacific Seacraft ... what a wonderful dilemma! You can’t go wrong with either. When they were in production, I toured both factories and was blown away by the craftsmanship and attention to detail at each. Of course, I couldn’t afford or justify a new boat, nor one the size you are considering, but I LOVED the Valiant 32 I ended up buying and sailing for a decade. The truth be known, I would have loved a Pacific Seacraft 34 just as much. Good luck with a “no way to lose” decision. What a fun and educational series!
Another great episode as usual. There is no way to go wrong with either boat. You choose the boat that works the best for two of you and we will follow your journey!
What a fantastic series you have put together on your boat search. The inclusion of these truly heavy wait authorities and their thoughtful comments is impressive!
Both Valiants and Pacific Seacrafts are in American Sailboat Hall of Fame which speaks volumes! I once owned a Valiant 32 just so forgiving and comfortable in a seaway. Look forward to your choice for family life that’s what matters!
I pick the pacific seacraft 40 and posted it in season 5:05... reason I picked it... price + newness US$ 229 one-owner Pacific Seacraft 40 has never been lived aboard or extensively cruised. This gorgeous vessel has been lightly used, primarily for weekend recreation and has only 822 engine hours!
A lesson learned: Money is cheap in the grand scheme. Don't let it be at the root of a regret. Wait if necessary to find/get what you really want. I've watched every episode (binged watched a few) and always look forward to the next one. You're incredible.
I tend to agree with my brother here. Don’t let your emotions dictate which boat you choose. Be patient, don’t compromise, and most importantly, be unified. Matt Esmacher
I love how you, as a couple, do such a thorough job of reviewing these boats. Having two prospectives is so valuable. You ought to do this professionally.
Another week? Y’all are killing me! I am OLD! I could pass before the “reveal”. I guess I now have some incentive to hang on until Wednesday. Sign me .... waiting. ☺️
Wow, what a great episode! I am so excited for you and I look forward to following your adventures on the new boat. I have to say though, I will shed a tear when you have to let Atticus go. I feel I have grown alongside of you and learned so much about life aboard a boat. Watching you both learn to do repairs, grow in your relationship, and the fantastic people you have met along the way. Thank you for bringing my along for the ride. Much love Buds!
I have to say that you have become one of my favourite channels and I love your direct comments, by the way PC40 for the exterior an V42 for the interior
I really like how you analyzed the process, beginning to end, and brought in various experts into the discussion. Well done! Your needs may change over time, but you are not likely to regret your purchase. Good on ya!
Whatever boat you go with you will make it work and I’d bet amazingly so. You certainly made Atticus work, and for a decent amount of time! Thanks for sharing, have fun, and best of luck!
Great ep! So many stars of SV UA-cam! The PSC40 because they're still in business and a partnership with them would be a very good move =) The amazing V42 sadly has the wrong saloon. StarGazer, the visibly superb V42 CE in Seattle needs a $5-8k bimini / solar system PLUS a $5k windvane to go offshore / tropics / long passages so too much $
Hi from Brisbane Australia, I think your choice in boats is excellent and the two are very close. But our vote goes to Valiant 42 Pullman version. Love your posts and looking forward to seeing your new boat. Keep following your dreams and stay safe.
Enjoyed your boat buying episodes, extremely interesting and entertaining. Whichever one you choose I know you will be happy. Can't wait to follow you both in the new boat. Wishing you all the best for your exciting future.
Guys, I have three broad comments: First, the thought and work you both are going through is nothing short of admirable! Bringing in John, Bernie, Lin, Nigel and the other UA-camrs was marvelous. We all should learn from you on this! Second, you should both SAIL the Valiant 42 and the PS 40! You’ve been out on the 42 with Chad but not on the PS 40. Third, with Nigel having a PS 40, what does he say about the liner and engine access issues? I will share that I currently own a PS 37 Cutter and love the way it sails and takes care of me! Bill Crealock knew what he was doing and I thank him every time I’m out. Having said that, the folks that sold me my 37 bought a Valiant 42 and are very happy with her (Liberty). Robert Perry sure knows what he’s doing too! As John said, both boats are VERY CLOSE to one another. First cousins you might say, so it all comes down how they feel underneath you. Wonderful luck to you both-and thanks for taking us all along for the ride!
I think you guys have said it very well, "Because sailing offshore can be miserable", that's why I never dreamed nor wanted to sail for days on end from Buffalo, NY to New Zealand. Our passages were from one place on Lake Ontario to or another. Generally most sailing was for 6 - 10 hours or 10 - 14 hours. I didn't like motoring and Challenger sailed herself with a Drifter, Main, Mizzen Staysail and Mizzen. Keep in mind that in 1975 when we first started sailing my 2 boys were 7 & 11 years old and I wanted them to be with me and my wife. I always let them helm and sail the boat. They developed friends in every port on the lake and sailed with us until they were 15 and could sail Challenger with their friends.
I'd rather score points with "she who must be obeyed" than the old man...lol... It is really a very hard decision both have awesome qualities, but one major factor and as one who likes to cook the Valiant 42 has a large galley with a good amount of working space and sink(s) for cleaning as you cook. I'm more concerned about the engines lack of power, personally I'd pull it in favour of a Yanmar xx that can easily move you along, is serviceable anywhere in the world and more power in this case might mean less fuel consumption and wear and tear on the engine and components. But the rigging and deck of the Pacific 40 is perfect and the wood very sexy.... and it has the Yanmar engine.... if only the two could be amalgamated.... The curse of the choosing and the blessing is that you cannot go wrong either way and either way it's a blessing.
They are both super boats but I would lean towards the PS40 for one reason; protected prop. As an ex commercial fisherman it was not a rare occurrence to see large floating nasties at sea, from shipping containers to tree trunks, the hazards are more common than we might like to think. For me it would be a full keel, (with a steel hull and anti torpedo bulges as well :) but a protected rudder and prop would be non negotiable. All the best guys; loving the hunt.
Valiant 42...Happy wife, happy life! I did go to the link and vote. You have really put together a video that speaks to first time and veteran sailors alike. what a wealth of information that you have given us. If you keep going the way you are going, you are going to be in the top 5 of sailing channels on UA-cam. Thank you so much for providing an uplifting and enjoyable video. Keel down and mast up and fair winds for your journey. May you never be becalmed and the seas be kind to you. Luv ya! headed to watch Red Dot on the Ocean/Ocean Research Project
Having access to things Easily in rough seas for the Motor, and the things you need to get to for personal use is going to make a WORLD of difference!! When your struggling with a toddler and need to get to something you don't want to be digging to get to things. Maybe a little smaller in the common area, but you've been saying in the videos, how much room do you need. And hopefully most of your time will be out and about when at anchor. Ether boat will take care of you guys for the logistics of sailing. But when you have kids, you don't need the added frustration of getting into things. I mean really, what if your at sea and need to get into the engine while the boat is tossing and turning. Valiant is what you'll be happier with in the long run... just my opinion. Don't discredit a woman's intuition. She knows... :)
It doesn't matter! Go with what your heart says as they are both great passage making yachts! Either will get you there and do it safely. Super smart to minimize the mainenance and maximize the sailing! You are fast becoming one of the best channels out there because of your content, editing, passion. Enjoy what ever you buy!👍👌👏⛵🌏
Pacific Seacraft 40: Attractive deck, safe at sea, comfortable nav station, decent galley, very spacious salon, good tank access, well-protected propellor, 54hp YanMar engine, what more can you ask for?!
worth the wait...congrats on coming to the end of this process. As much as I/we cant wait to see what you chose, I cant imagine the anticipation yall feel to finally live, and sail on the boat you chose. Looking forward to the live stream....God Bless yall!
@@davida1679 I meant the Seacraft, I believe that's the abbreviation they used. The PS 40... SC 40... PSC 40... Whatever. "What do you think about the P31? It's a piece of sh*t! I'd like to work with the P40. How many people think we should scrap the P-31? There it is. Scrapped. Why? Because you want it scrapped. It's out of there. P-31, out of there. No more. Gone. You want 31 flavors? Baskin-Robbins is where you wanna be." NAME THAT MOVIE...
Rudder: pick the more rugged one. Mom will feel safe with rugged rudder near shore. PS40 Engine Access on PS 40: Easy Solution: Just cut panels out around side or back of engine on PS40: those aren't load-bearing walls, are they? Cut access holes. That's super easy fix for engine access. But IF you can't cut away walls, then PS inaccessible engine is very serious. No way to cure an insecure rudder or propeller at risk of rope wrapping. Deal Breaker? Near shore constant worry. Lin & Larry had a giant oar. Other stuff, galley shape, bunk shapes, where kids play, all irrelevant compared to breaking rudder. One expert addressed rudder safety. But what do I know? I'm just caught up in vicarious adventure. Cheers
I've really enjoyed your sailboat hunting series. Although we're after a Cat, your series has really educated me on a lot of different aspects of a sailboat. Your search will be different from mine, and different from everyone else's, but you highlight a lot of great topics for consideration. Looking forward to hearing about your final pick! We're with you guys all the way!
You two have done a fantastic job on this project. I also fell in love with the Valiant 42 and it would be my top pick but because of your height and your plans to raise children aboard I believe you all would be much more comfortable on the Pacific Seacraft. Good luck to you and I wish you the very best on which ever boat you choose. God Bless ….
@@davidc6510 I'm guessing the boat they bought happened weeks if not a month ago so don't rule out anything that shows it sold in the last month. Sometimes for sale listings are slow to come down so boats that are listed now for sale may have sold in the 30 days and the listing has not been updated. It's a real nail biter as to which one they got. Both are winners so it's great to know they will be in a safe true blue water boat.
Been following you guys for the last few years, enchanted by the whole love affair with the little sailboat and the hard work of funding your adventure. $250k dollar sailboat seems a huge change for you, how have you funded this and does that change your appeal to other young couples striving as you once did. You two buddies were once the very best advert for following your dreams. Don’t loose that appeal please, we loved Atticus 1.
I agree you’ve done a great job in your search, well thought out. I don’t know anything about sailing any of the boats you have presented but I do know “ Happy Wife = Happy Life”! Really both boats seem great. I like the better built boat, you know safety first.
Simone’s husband Paul here . Wow , what a great problem you have . There is a 30,000 dollar difference, but over twenty years and ten’s of thousands of miles sailing that will mater little by then ! Jordan , you can sail any boat , but I can’t help but feel you will be happier sailing the boat your wife love the most . I am frugal by nature , but if you are to keep this boat as long as you think , then the Valiant and it’s build will repay you in the end . On an emotional level , buy the boat your wife loves , you will never regret it . She has been there through it all and , making her happy will truly make you feel the best in the end ! Awesome video and enjoyed is so much ! it matters little.
this is a seriously impressive effort - you have been able to speak with some really highly credentialled sailors - JK, amongst others. - a logical and well-considered approach - love the bit about rudders - kinda nails that down - we wish you well - and hurry up and make your way across the Pacific.
BTW: if it was my sole decision, I’d pick the PS 40. Excellent condition, right sized engine, awesome rudder design, and the owner had it professionally maintained.
You guys are awesome! I love the content you put out there. A great mix of work, fun, and information for realistic boat purchases. Can’t wait to see you on your new boat!
Two things I have learned that may help Jordan... 1. Happy Wife happy life 2. The best advice I received when I first got married was I could be right or I could be happy... I chose happiness most of the time. I guess it has worked because we just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. V42 and get sailing!!!
Just finished watching "Red Dot on the Ocean". truly amazing journey!!! Not only in passage miles, but in his life as well. thanks for the heads up. I bookmarked it and sent to all my family and friends. Luv ya!!
The protected prop is a really big deal IMO, and I think I'd choose the PS40 because of that and its spectacular condition. But there isn't a bad option between the two. I've really enjoyed this boat-shopping series. Thanks for putting so much work into it, and for including so many respected voices. You did a great job anticipating questions in this last one (why no cats? what about center-cockpits?) and I think your priorities and judgment are sound. Best of luck!
What an excellent series this has been. All of the sailors you received advice from definitely know what they are talking about! True legends! Only family missing was S.V. Totum. Good luck on your upcoming purchase.
When my wife saw the "sail locker" on the Valiant, her first comment was "that is not a sail locker, just add a cushion and it is a nursery" It is big enough for a kids cabin until they are about 6-8 years old.
A great fun series on your boat selection. On the one hand, wish it could continue but on the other, happy that you have made your selection. Anxious now to see where you wind up. Thanks for sharing your epic boat selection process.
LMAO! First 1:37 of the video and had to stop to push the like button. You guys were almost responsible for water damage on my laptop and me choking on my drink...Hilarious you two. :D

In my honest opinion , your best vblog yet!!! Looking forward to watching you chase your dreams around our plant on the Valiant 42!
I can’t wait for y’all to sail again!!
Pacific Seacraft. That main salon is where the children are going to be while at sail.
Saloon, not salon.
Sailing is about - what you don't need - that is the magic - you discover how little you do need - Bam JK at his best..
apply that philosophy to life and you'll have the most freedom you possibly can
Look at you guys! Not even sailing and you're crushing it...Mad respect.
SC 40 is what I think you guys want...
Haha. Ya! I do love the Santa Cruz 40. One of Bill’s best designs especially for Transpac
Great episode of comparing PS40 vs V42, and of bringing in wonderful mentors! So many helpful tips and insights in this one.
Cheers
I've said it every week in this series; well done and very informative. This series will "stand the test of time" for sure!
You are a cool couple. Kudos to you
I've really enjoyed your sailboat hunting series. Although we're after a Cat, your series has really educated me on a lot of different aspects of a sailboat. Your search will be different from mine, and different from everyone else's, but you highlight a lot of great topics for consideration. Looking forward to hearing about your final pick! We're with you guys all the way!
When drawer latches fail, all the contents spread far n wide. Picking up and tidying breakages.
Valiant 42 pullman version - the pullman berth area can always be converted to bunk beds to accomodate a growing family.
ooohhh good idea!!
unfortunately no longer on the market :(
@@davidc6510 I'm guessing the boat they bought happened weeks if not a month ago so don't rule out anything that shows it sold in the last month. Sometimes for sale listings are slow to come down so boats that are listed now for sale may have sold in the 30 days and the listing has not been updated. It's a real nail biter as to which one they got. Both are winners so it's great to know they will be in a safe true blue water boat.
Agreed.. and don't forget the engine access.
Valiant 42 all the way!
I'm not a sailor, and never will be, but I have truly enjoyed your quest for a Bluewater Sailboat.Thank you for taking me along.
I agree you’ve done a great job in your search, well thought out. I don’t know anything about sailing any of the boats you have presented but I do know “ Happy Wife = Happy Life”! Really both boats seem great. I like the better built boat, you know safety first.
PS40- sturdier motor and more protected rudder. Sacrifice a little on D’s love on the interior for these safety items like john and Lyn advised.
Sv Day-los haha. I’d go with the pacific seacraft 40
It sounds like you two are well informed about what you need. Wishing you success in your search.
Hard choice! The purported build quality, performance and interior comfort makes me favor the Valiant 42.
this is a seriously impressive effort - you have been able to speak with some really highly credentialled sailors - JK, amongst others.
A very tough decision between the two boats. Great video - vlog series. I chose the Valiant 42 for two reasons. Engine access and build.
I’m glad y’all mentioned Matt’s non-profit!
You guys are awesome! I love the content you put out there. A great mix of work, fun, and information for realistic boat purchases. Can’t wait to see you on your new boat!
42 - remember, its the answer to Life, the Universe, and everything!
Excellent point!!
LOL
Zen and the Art of Yacht Maintenance
I shared your video with a friend that bought a Valiant 42 from Bernie a few years ago. He enjoyed the video.
You have put together a superb series on boat shopping. Many thanks!
SC40 for the engine and rudder/prop advantages.
PS 40
Just finished watching "Red Dot on the Ocean". truly amazing journey!!! Not only in passage miles, but in his life as well. thanks for the heads up. I bookmarked it and sent to all my family and friends. Luv ya!!
I think the Valiant 42. There are some things more important than the "perfect boat." Happy wife, happy life.
The guy talking about cats doesn't know what he's talking about. 50' to sail around the world? Somehow we managed on a 40' :)
Exactly what I thought too, but they would not be buying the Pullman berth Valiant 42, unfortunately.
A great fun series on your boat selection. On the one hand, wish it could continue but on the other, happy that you have made your selection. Anxious now to see where you wind up. Thanks for sharing your epic boat selection process.
I saw a twinkle in your guys' eyes with a smile at the beginning of the video... What did you guys do?
I have an idea... :)
Valiant 42 is my bet!
The vote is super fun (I voted valiant!) but only you know all the nuances that lead to the right decision. Can't wait for Wednesday! Love you guys :)
Ps40. Save the $ for the college fund. Good luck and happy sailing.
LMAO! First 1:37 of the video and had to stop to push the like button. You guys were almost responsible for water damage on my laptop and me choking on my drink...Hilarious you two. :D
😆
Still trying to find what happened to Atticus after you left her, is there an episode that covers that in detail?
This will be coming soon 😁
@@ProjectAtticus Thanks so much for getting back, look forward to the story. Hope she continues to be enjoyed and loved. I love and have a few unique boats of all kinds and looking forward to enjoying my free Grampian G23 when I semi retire this year.
I am on Team Cabo Rico 42
Love the Valiant 42 , with the canoe stern, and the storage compartments, Go Dez
