You guys aren't as prolific as some vloggers but I really enjoy your videos. I like the way you explain not just what you are doing (and thinking) but why. Keep them coming and I'll keep on watching.
Thanks Dana! We believe in quality over quantity, and although we would LOVE to produce more content we put a lot of time behind not only the projects but the filming and editing itself. Not to mention we both work full time and Chris is a professional cinematographer so getting him to edit for “fun” after a big shoot can sometimes be like pulling teeth 😂 we appreciate the kind words and can’t wait to share more soon
THANK YOU ALL for your patience as we did our best to finish this video. Chris's laptop died suddenly so we decided to upgrade to the M1 Mini and monitor that colorists use since, well, Chris needed it for work anyways. In addition to the minor computer crisis, we have also been busy working on our boat and others while managing our respective businesses to "fund the dream"... We look forward to more sailing soon, and can't wait to share some exciting news with you all! Stay tuned :)
It was definitely a beast of a project. I wish I could have participated a little more but i'm glad Jon was able to step in for me while I was at work!
Believe me, I've been sailing more than 40 years. Your sense of humor is the most important asset aboard that boat. Everything else can be replaced. So what happens if Calif Highway Patrol stops you and finds 2-part epoxy, do you get arrested? Holy Mama.
Great job of retrofitting the refrigerator/galley area. Just found your channel a little earlier and love the professionalism of the work that Chris has used in retrofitting Avocet with Joh and your assistance Melissa. I will have to spend some time viewing all of the back videos so that I can get up-to-date.
Pretty sure Avocet is my favourite yacht of all the sailing channels... such as classy looking boat and you're doing a great job getting her back (and perhaps beyond) to her full glory.
Wow, this seriously made our day! Avocet has been so good to us, its wild to think our hearts were set on a completely different boat before we "met" her. It has been an honor to continue the previous owners legacy.
Absolutely! We want to make sure the info we share is more than just "we like it because its pretty" ... we want to share the "why" and "how" as well! Thanks for watching and commenting
WOW! Okay, this was the best comment we have read. Thank you so much for the kind words and support, we are thrilled you enjoy our hard work :) Stay safe out there!
Well done Avocet crew and yet another example, even with quality production boats, of how corners are cut. Your solid refit work will seriously pay off 👍🍺🍷
Thank you, friends! It is amazing how some designs can be so well thought out in theory yet simple corners are cut (sometimes literally) like our fridge. As technology advances I'm sure in 40+ years we will be saying the same about today's "new" yachts!
I follow several sailing channels and this was one of the better refit vids I've seen. Nice work on the video and on the galley! Fair winds and following seas.
I really really think the howler monkeys and tools story has to be expanded on. Also the sander I think is the #1 most used tool restoring a sailboat. I collected 7 and a half pounds of sand dust from my boat project last year. 11/10 great video! I look forward to the next one!
Just remember that 'heat tolerant' is a full grade below 'heat resistant'. I think I would be putting my hot pots into the sink for safety from damages to benches and from boat movements. The refit looks fantastic!
I knew of a boat that had an icebox with insulation all the way down to the hull, after a couple of decades the temperature changes from outside of the hull to the colder insulation caused some pretty nasty blisters and rot! Blisters Are easily fixed though so no worries, might have been why the foam was isolated though!
good vloggs guys, lucky to meet you along TikTok on expedition Adams,I going to look all your vloggs one by one, starting from this evening and will gif every vloggs my 👍up.
Was kind of surprised you had to drive to LV to get those items not available in California ... SHOCKED !! Nice work on the galley refit, well done Chris. Reminds me of Dan fixing up Uma with enhanced galley. Really enjoy your channel, one of my favorites, you guys ROCK !!
I feel the pain. Did this two years ago on our Pearson 424. I now have a functioning fridge freezer with 7" of insulation in the freezer and 5-7" in the fridge. Tons of space and the compressor hardly runs. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing. The galley looks amazing. I am stealing a bunch of your ideas for my boat restoration. I hope to make my boat look as good as Avocet some day. Cheers!
Chris: The reason not to do it ? I don't know" lol great thinking he wants to do it right that for sure. Sorry took me a while to watch your video, I am subscribed to too many sailing channels and UA-cam does not do a very good job reminding me which ones I have not watched yet, despite having notifications set to always.
I use that pink foam to build rc airplanes. Honestly, the easiest way to cut it is with a hacksaw blade, not on the holder. Also, those cheap snap off razor blade knives, with a straight edge. Cut with an extreme angle, and you get super clean cuts. Usually takes a couple of passes. And elmers or titebond woodglue works great.
Someone asked me the other day "how many more projects do you have?" and after listing the 3 main ones it turned into "well theres also varnish... and it would be nice to build a new shelf... oh and maybe install that doo-hickey we have had laying around..." so they truly never end. if they did we would be bored,
@Renegade Show You should know. Most people however finish them, according to your own YT channel, you just start them. But that's OK, because every yard I've ever been in has a guy like you. I'm guessing you're THAT guy in your own yard. Be proud of it however. Somebody has to be THAT GUY.
Nice work !! Motivating me to fully refit too. I just have a few questions as your excellent video has me thinking about my 1978 Pearson 35 project. What type or brand of refrigerator/freezer system was originally installed ? Does your compressor run much less now through the day ? What type of hinges are installed on the door, allowing the insulated door plug to open and close? That's some really nice craftsmanship. Again, excellent work and thank you for sharing this project !!
Ahoy Don! We had a Seafrost air cooled compressor, but we recently upgraded to an Isotherm keel-cooled compressor and evaporator which works better here in warmer climates (Mexico). It runs a lot less now! The hinges were found in a marine consignment shop, and are just marine fridge hinges. We write about the project more here: www.svavocet.com/2021/04/28/building-a-marine-fridge/
Sometimes creating a mess is the only way to create a masterpiece... Chris is good at seeing through it all to the final product but I cant see the "big picture" until it is closer to the finish line!
