thank you, yes i can get a little lax on safety gear, need to make improvements in that area. you guys calling me out on it does help keep it fresh in my mind.
@@victorsuarez2954 a proper rated safety glasses won't shatter. It may crack or get deformed but I haven't seen it cracked like the windshield does. I have seen quite a few incidents and safety glasses does really help a lot, but we have our own beliefs and I respect that.
If you use a hammer even to drive a nail it's best to have safety glasses. Never grind anything without eye protection nor fool with Freon without eye protection. Good video.
Just did one of these jobs, as usual I watch Mr ezrider and laugh how I was told to do it. I like your style, and sometimes it takes backyard mechanic skill to get it done. Thanks again
This is a great video - I am replacing King Pins on my 1967 MC5A Bus and am having trouble finding a shop who will do the job. I've got mine all apart and am looking for someone to replace the bushings but maybe now I can figure it out myself. Thanks for taking the time to document.
My bearing is out on my drivers side.I was told it's from not jacking the weight off the wheel before greasing. But anyway I'm tackling this job on my only day off on my w9.Thanks for the video!Hope mine come out easy!
I just got put out of service in the December 2019 DOT inspection with king pins. Sucks, I'm just a 1-truck (International 4300) company, now without any income and not enough cash for the repair. Your video is tempting me to give it a go in my driveway. THANK YOU so much for taking the time to post this video!!! I got shit faced one night and did a face plant on a beer can in my driveway. I got the same black eye, I feel your pain. My license renewal was due the next week so now my new license picture is proof of what an asshole I am. However, people that ask for my ID get a great, drunken story. Thank you again for you video!!!
I just started watching your channel and it is pretty good. Don't let peoples comments upset you. The only person you need to worry about is the one who sleeps next to you hopefully that's your wife. God bless and keep on trucking!
Went to vocational school 3 years to be a diesel and truck mechanic. Been doing since 1980 even after i started driving. Please use safety glasses (I've had 2 major eye surgeries on my left eye and was blind in my left eye for 3 weeks ( HORRIBLE feeling) protect those eyes son !!! I thought i was the only one who used a hone to clean and size the bores 👍👍👍 you did DAMN good !!! Always put the shims between the axle and the top bushing boss (you DID !!) Good job and great video. ALL THE BEST SIR.
Thanks for the extra attention to detail not many mechanics will teach you much ? I am doing king pins on a new flyer bus with no instructions? your video helps
the press is a good idea i took an old kingpin and welded a long piece of key stock to it so someone can hold it while the other guy swings the sledge. i heated mine with a rosebud and with luck about 5-6 swings they fell right out
I know the feeling when it comes to stuck kingpins. The 1.5" ones are a nightmare, the 2" ones come out easier. As a recommendation, when i get a frozen wedge pin, i heat it up cherry red with a torch. Then I lean on it with an air hammer. When it comes to the kingpin, i heat the spindle just a little, and then drive it out with an air chipping hammer. Sometimes i alternate between the chipping hammer, and the 16 .lb sledgehammer. Some guys use kingpin presses, but they are expensive, and don't fit all trucks. And if possible, i like using the spiral kyser king pin kits. No reaming, hardened steel bushings, and they last forever. Hope this helps.
Greate video! Ben there, done that in forgetting the safety glasses. Have a few war wounds myself. I like the idea of the press, I'm going to try it. Thanks for the information
the press worked really good, put some legs on it after this and now it makes a really handy bench top press as well. pretty sure i actually broke my face when this happened cause almost a year later now still have some mild pain where i got hit and can feel a large indention in the bone just under my eye socket where i got smacked in the face....lol
Glad you were not hurt anymore than you were. Your description of the mach 2 drift was entertaining, but as Mr. Robinson indicated, safety glasses are not a bad idea.
No, but worked for p and b out Bismarck, one of your other viewers mentioned you being from n.d., was just curious . Have my own truckn trailer now down in az but do haul to Fargo now and then when the rate justifies it out of Nogales, az
I'm a retired truck mechanic, I remember the old days when the new bushings were just a brass bushing that you installed and then you used a great big reamer and reamed and reamed until the king pin fit the bushing. it was a lot of work. Then later they came up with plastic bushings which was real easy, but they didn't last very long.
I have done my fair share of king pins I have always pushed from the bottom because some pins are marked top by a T on the pin .they may have a slight taper
I just found your channel today and I’ve been binging on them ever since. Excellent content!! I’m a truck and heavy equipment field mechanic. Your work is spot on. Keep up the great work brother!!!!!!!!
Thank you for the video where did you get your bearing removal and install tool? I'm working on mine now old ones are the kiser no hone and don't come out real easy.
Made that OOOOhhhhhhh noise at the drift coming back at your eye. Recently had a big old chunk of metal embed in my eyebal in a similar occurrence. I wear safety glasses now.
Really like video. I have a problem with the King pin fit and there is a side by side play. I can't find a bigger king pin. What can I do to fix this problem?
I need to have kingpins replaced on my 1995 International 9400. What is the best place and what brand to get King Pin kit? Thanks for the video. Thanks for your help
Great video! When I did mine I used the Kaiser no ream king pins. I heard they aren't as good as the ones you used but it's been 5 years and 500k and they still seem to be holding up
Do they make a roller bearing kingpin kit for the big trucks? I installed a roller bearing kit on my 1950 Ford F1 a few years ago and it has been great.
Question... I just installed my new bushings, and the king pins will not even go in yet. I have a small hone, but it's taking a long time to get the bushing to take the pin. Is this normal? I only have a 220 grit stone, but is this supposed to be slow process? Thanks for the great videos.
That’s funny. I was changing a Motor mount on a Mack and the spacer or metal thing inside the bushing came down and smacked me in the mouth. I thought I was going to be missing a tooth for a bit until I got the feeling back in my mouth
One hit and the little pin came right out, must be nice. Last one we did took an air hammer and a torch and many hours just to remove the little pins, forget the kingpin itself.
You will always get a thumps up from me, I can tell that your a down to earh hard working gentleman who enjoys helping people.
thank you. 👍
Same here. I like genuine down to earth people. All the best to you
Thank you for taking the time to show those wanting to learn.
Brother please use safety glasses. You seem like a decent tech. Would not want you to lose your eyesight. Godbless and thanks for the video!

Jimmy E Robinson super video
Maybe is worst if a piece of plastic gets in to the eye, just saying.

This it's the third time you have given me a great idea you just saved me 1000.00 bucks with your HF press idea well done budd appreciated
That’s pure genius rigging the press to fit over the spindle! Great video!
In Korea...I watched this . I love and respect you.
Thank you

Excellent idea using cut down press. I can use that on backhoe pin also
Really good information Thanks!

Glad you were not hurt anymore than you were. Your description of the mach 2 drift was entertaining, but as Mr. Robinson indicated, safety glasses are not a bad idea.

Your videos kick ass brother. I'm a mobile tech, new to bigger trucks... You're making me some money!! 🤘
Thank you
Since I only done mine twice, I decided to take it to a shop. Some repairs are no for the dyi trucker.
No, but worked for p and b out Bismarck, one of your other viewers mentioned you being from n.d., was just curious . Have my own truckn trailer now down in az but do haul to Fargo now and then when the rate justifies it out of Nogales, az

I have done my fair share of king pins I have always pushed from the bottom because some pins are marked top by a T on the pin .they may have a slight taper
@@DR-um2bv their is a printed spec in the shop manual
I love me some harbor freight too!!
Sir do you have video of how to remove pinion gear from housing. I learn much from you. Thank you.
I am very glad you are ok after all that👍
Fine education. Can the press be used to install the bushing?
Excellent video. Thanks for your expertise.
Modified shop press is a great idea wish we had one in the pauper shop replacing the king pins on wench truck 31
Lol, hope you have been doing well
My kind of tech. Down to earth.
Tell you another thing. We always used the no reams. They run a 100 bucks more but man the time savings we’re equal. Love them no reams
Stemco no ream bushings and pins are the best super easy !
Awesome stuff bud.
Great Job mate!!!
Thank you
I just found your channel today and I’ve been binging on them ever since.
Was wearing glasses when I happened got hit on the bone under my eye near my nose that bone was broken just didn't know it yet at the time
Hey ezrider I really like your channel bro I also work on my own equipment and always trying to learn more maintenance

Great video thanks for the help
The instructions mentioned clocking the bushing but don't say how.. any tips?
That was a dam good video king pins are always a pain.

Largest king pin I've ever seen
Great video buddy
Really like video. I have a problem with the King pin fit and there is a side by side play. I can't find a bigger king pin. What can I do to fix this problem?
Great video, thank you
I need to have kingpins replaced on my 1995 International 9400. What is the best place and what brand to get King Pin kit? Thanks for the video. Thanks for your help
PT blaster spray ,3 pound hammer and cheater bar pipe helps ; also gloves and plastic face shield .
Glad to see nearly 200k views!
didn't realize this video that that many views kinda a old video that just keeps slowly growing over a long period of time.
If grease is coming out of the bottom of the kingpin does that mean the kingpins need replacing? Thanks.
Where did you get the removal/ install tool for the bushings?
Great video! When I did mine I used the Kaiser no ream king pins. I heard they aren't as good as the ones you used but it's been 5 years and 500k and they still seem to be holding up
glad to hear it, i have never personally tried the no ream
Do they make a roller bearing kingpin kit for the big trucks? I installed a roller bearing kit on my 1950 Ford F1 a few years ago and it has been great.
Hyprmtr- YES!!! SOME SEMIS HAVE KIG PINS MADE BY MERCEDES BENZ AND THEY HAVE ROLLER BEARINGS INSTEAD OF BUSHINGS
Did the tool you used to take out the old bushing come with the kit? Awesome video! Done like a man...no gloves
Thanks for sharing nice job 👍

do you use a lip ring tool or the same tool to remove and install bushing
So the the lil metal seal goes to the bottom of the bushings not the top?
Thanks for the video!
That’s funny. I was changing a Motor mount on a Mack and the spacer or metal thing inside the bushing came down and smacked me in the mouth. I thought I was going to be missing a tooth for a bit until I got the feeling back in my mouth

Badass video you know what your doin!👌
Trying to fix king pins on a 1977 Ford ln750. New to big trucks and this truck seems to bounce and wobble
I’m having trouble getting the bushing lip seals in without damaging them. What kind of tool is that you used to drive them in? What is it called
