  • This will be the first of many videos on our 84 SVO shop car. All stock 2.3 turbo car. Bought it to make some new products from, but also want to play with power management and see what we can get out of the car in stock form. We had a lot of fun making this video, please like and subscribe to follow this project of ours.

Been waiting for an update on the SVO. Don’t give up on it, you can make it ‘respectable’ with just a little work and dollars. I’ve had my SVO for over 20 years and 170k miles, and pretty much seen it all. You should name it ‘Grandfather’, since it was the start of SVT. Lots of fords ‘firsts’ with the SVO.

I do love the SVO's. I only wish Ford used its unique features (5 lug wheels, 4 wheel disk brakes, upgraded suspension) on the base GT cars.

I had an 86 SVO that had a built engine with Wiseco pistons (upped to 9.2 compression), ported everything, big valves, aftermarket computer, bigger front mount intercooler, 420 roller cam, 3.5 inch exhaust, T3/4 hybrid, 8.8 inch rear with 4.10 gears, and a modified to fit T-5 trans from a V8 Mustang. On 91 octane it would only do about 12 PSI because of the compression but it was way faster than the stock engine at 18 PSI. I would run 20 PSI with a few gallons of 100 octane unleaded in it. From a roll it would run away from my friends 98 Z28. Damn thing still got 27-28 MPG :)
The only cons were it was difficult to drag race because out of the hole it wanted to bog and lose turbo boost or boost up and vaporize the tires.

Yes. Ported the stock head and installed bigger valves. Ran a Ranger roller cam at first. Then went to the bigger roller.
Pretty much ported and gasket matched everything from the bigger throttle body to the exhaust manifold.
If you have a later one with the brown top injectors (36#) you can go to up around 300 HP with them before you run out of capacity.

The 2.3 engines were never super reliable, even less so turbocharged. That said, having driven both a new SVO and new modern eco boost, the SVO was less competent overall but more fun to drive than the faster Eco boost. Almost all the early turbo engines had issues in those days. The best way I can describe them was relatively cheap and yet a little exotic. If you were willing to work on them as much as any other exotic car they were a fun hobby. If you were expecting Honda reliability you were not going to enjoy owning one! Yours has certainly seen better days but I think you will have fun with this project!

There are so few of these left, why not modify it and keep the original spirit of the car instead of butchering it

    • @Scramspeed
      @Scramspeed  3 роки тому +2

We do not plan to butcher it. As of right now we are leaving it in 100% stock form and plan to do Holley EFI on it to see how much power can be made with no parts change.

I bought a new SVO in Nov 1984. It was FORD (Found On Road Dead ) & towed out of my garage 6 days after I took delivery. For over 40 days out of the next 3 mos, it was either being towed into the shop or IN the shop confusing the shop people. I had to PAY to RENT a car to get to work ( so I could pay for the vehicle in the shop ). This was the last American car I did and will ever buy. It's only Honda ( Acura ) and/or Toyota (Lexus ) for me. The union doesn't care about their customers and now I don't care about them. I used to drive around with a "Buy American" sticker on my car. No more.

I can't watch anymore .. i've just seen the sign of pure stupidity: (stock, not drift hydraulic one!) Handbrake lever almost touching the sunroof.. if somebody do that to any car from my garage, that person will NEVER be allowed anywhere in the area of my garage.
WAS that car on the MOUNTAIN RIDGE? Was a declined or inclined surface there? Then W H Y?!? Did you dare to use uwn brain? Did you know is a CABL /pair of .. which are tensioned when you pull that lever? There's NO RUBBER CABLES, but steel ones, did you know that?

We've been waiting for this! THANK YOU! All this time, we've been making HUNDREDS of thousands of horsepower, winning national events for DECADES, installing custom turbo systems, fuel injection retrofits, doing LS swaps, and building crazy cool one-of-a-kind stuff, and FINALLY! FINALLY! Someone explains to us the baffling mystery, The awesome majesty, of the "Emergency Brake."
We've been so busy working on the cars of our thousands of happy customers that we never had time to learn ourselves. Bless you sir! Our kids want to be YOU when they grow up.

@@Scramspeed yes, my kids do want that and you know nothing about me or my life or my knowledge about various domains.
If you were something or somebody, that would make you to know sarcasm can't exist without a minimal level of intelligence, because it become just a FART, as your post above.
I was speaking about that brake lever, then you feel need to SHOW OFF, to "give me a lesson" about who you are and what marvelous things you do having at your disposal all resources of a planet.. 🤣.
We builded here with almost no resources some 1000bhp from 3200cmc 6in line from 15years ago, a country hars exploited by western "democracy" after 50years of communism... So, your build of 2800bhp based on big block chevy and having EVERYTHING at lenght of a hand.. did not impress me at all. If something did impress me, is skills of those drivers which runs on track those builds on big tyres.
