I personally never had a problem with Microsoft entering the gaming space initially, when they were focused on predominately single-player games that had a multi-player component to them...But I had a huge problem when Microsoft decided to go all in with On-line only games as a service games, which I recognized early on and that's when I was out. And when they tried to go digital only with the X-Box One, I was OUT! Games as a service will never be profitable, as it requires too much investment & too much up-keep & constant flow of content to ever be profitable, forcing these companies to adopt the heavy-handed micro-transactions route, which will never be accepted. Its just a dumb model. But these mega corporations only see the potential for obscene profits and that is ALL they care about. Then they act surprised when they don't make obscene profits. Its utter stupidity but notice that they always manage to fall upwards. The hated Bobby Kotick from Activision recently got a $400+ million severance package from Microsoft, while studios like Tango & Arkane get shuttered just to save a few million. How does this make any sense?

Well the reason why Microsoft joined/got into the video game landscape was from four former microsoft employees comvincing, at the time, Bill Gates, to get into gaming and such. It also was the result of former Sega of America employees whom wanted to get revenge at sony for succeeding with both the PS1 and the PS2, and so by making their own video game console that would continue Sega's console legacy into Microsoft, that's how they got into the gaming sphere. But nowadays, since Microsoft is like "Well, we can't go any further with graphics and specs, we now have to go down the money rabbit hole and do subscriptions and online only stuff". And since the Xbox Three console was introduce (aka Xbox One shown in 2013), Microsoft has never recovered ever since, and they're just on life support at this point.

I'm a person that tends to like video game consoles that I can also use a computer operating system built into the hardware, as well as being able to play backwards compatible with all games and all consoles, including physical copies of games I can own without DRM or any internet connection required and such. Some games can't be re-released sadly due to licensing, copyright, or even products that once used to be on the market no longer exist. Heck, some gaming studios have went under and trying to buy out the licenses for the games itself is very pricey for a business if no profit for those games is yet to be made for the new generation anyway (hence why I love emulation the most. It allows those whom didn't experience before the 2010s to be able to play video games that they didn't grow up on to experience them just as much as the 1990s, 1980s, and 1970s children did 50/40/30 years ago).
But I mean, go figure, even I use the controller on my PC anyway to play some games, while others I use a keyboard and mouse. It just depends on the video game I'm playing myself and whether or not I can get used to the controls.

Yeeaaahhhhh They might release a new variant of the console, and probably their fifth and final console, but I don't know what will happen to them in 2025 to 2030/2035 and such. At this point the PC/Mobile market is continuously growing by the day, and will continue to grow for all of mankind. And unfortunately many consoles have become basic computers at this point, with hardware inferior to the actual professional 10,000+ dollar PC dev kit desktops that they devs can work on, but no one can afford a PC over $1,000+ dollars, let alone $500.000 at max. So if they do announce they're retiring from console making, I would laugh knowing they would end up just like how Sega ended up in (considering it was the four employees at Microsoft back in 1999 and former Sega employees wanting revenge on Sony that convinced Microsoft to enter into the gaming market in 2000/2001 in the first place.)

And why are they raising the prices of game pass again if they just did it less than a year ago? Don’t they know that’s why people canceled subscriptions to Netflix? Hi-Fi Rush would have printed money if it wasn’t released basically for free. I would love to play it after their being rumors it could release on the Switch, but I’d never buy an Xbox and then they shut down the studio for literally no reason so who knows if it’ll ever be available on other platforms. Unless workers in the company mention how/what has happened in there, and unless Microsoft comes out and tells everyone that what they have been speculating or talking about is the "actual" truth, we can only theorize, predict, or speculate what is going on in these companies....But yeah, if Microsoft leaves the console business, I'm fine with it considering I was never an Xbox person growing, it was always Nintendo+Sony, until I dropped them out around the 7th generation in both 2006 and 2010, and switched to PC that I've been playing games on since the late 1990s early 2000s when I was very young.

So while I grew up in the 90s mostly playing Nintendo & Sega. I never had a preference for a company. I usually bought whichever system was better suited at the time and then usually a Nintendo system with it. Xbox was the king during the 360 era and I played most of the games on that system because the online was better and the games for the most part played better on it. Then with Xbox One, The system is overpriced and underpower at launch. The PlayStation 4 on the other hand basically just did exactly what the 360 did but better and was more powerful for less money at launch. This generation I bought both the Xbox Series X and PS5 because I still like playing the Halo games on Xbox but arguably the PlayStation 5 has most of my library since I bought a lot of stuff on PS4. The only thing that's keeping me owning an Xbox is the older titles and backwards compatibility. I mean I even just bought Hi-fi rush on PSN because it looks better on PS5 and was on sale. For the record I never bought game pass except for like one time. Being an adult now at 39 means I don't have as much time to play games as I used to, so while game pass was a good value I don't have enough time to play all those games that justify the cost. For me to cheaper options to buy a game and then spend the time playing it and then once I beat it move on to the next thing. It also doesn't help that I have a few comfort games I go back to play from time to time. I already knew Game pass was going to be the downfall of Xbox, It's too good. Like Xbox can make some great games but if they're not making money off of selling the games then it doesn't really matter does it. I mean the proof of that is the fact that a lot of the Xbox games that came over to PlayStation have hit the top of the charts. Xbox has a good games but can't make money off of them because they stagger themselves. Honestly I think PlayStations approach to their membership for the higher tiers is a better plan. Don't put any first party titles out at launch until they run their lifespan and sell the most they can. This way they still make money and then whenever it gets older they put it on the service after it stopped generating revenue. The people on the service still get a benefit from being able to play those games. Like I understand why The higher ups at PlayStation said on Twitter that the game pass is not going to be able to last. It's too good, They should have made it to where Game pass lets you try out Microsoft first party titles at launch for like a 24-hour period to help generate more interest in buying those games but just given them away makes them no money. Now they could give people a discount for owning game pass when buying first party titles at release kind of like how EA play gives discounts to EA titles. Actually now that I think about it and I'm going to hate myself for saying this, I think EA's method is the best method there is for how they handle their games on their EA play service.

The MS purchase of all those studios for 70b has to be one of the most bone headed decisions in business history. 1st...you bought them to make exclusives for your console when your console base is nowhere near what it should be to make any significant money back and being that all your games are now gonna be released on SONY means that the exclusive argument is totally irrelevant. 2nd...Paying that money for a small install base without insuring that a major list of exclusive games means the purchase of those studios was pointless. You could have not spent that money and those games would still have come out on your console. 3rd...You cut your own throat with day and date releases on gamepass insuring that players pay a subscription fee instead of paying full price for a game. 4th...Making gamepass available on PC where more houses have a pc then a game console means you will sell less and less consoles thus shrinking the necessity of having an xbox console meaning the money spent to research and develop new xbox's becomes a waste of money.
It is like xbox is being run by a chicken with it's head cut off. I feel MS has never taken it seriously because they have so much money. They approached it like they could buy their way to the top. They have been relying on the same 3 franchises from the beginning (G.O.W., Halo and Forza) after that, it's been nothing of real note. Maybe a few titles here and there. But when your game library doesn't grow in any respectable manner, gamers will go to the console that gives them a better library with more quality choices.
And with the comments they've made and the actions they have taken over time(must always have an internet connection, that players don't own the games even if they buy them, that players can't just take games to their friends homes and so on) have shown that they have no clue what gamers want and don't want. That does not build consumer confidence. Now, personally, I think xbox is and always has been garbage. I think the only reason they were around when they started is like when people call any soda a coke, all the parent's who didn't know anything about games called every console an xbox cause of all the marketing like the parents when I was a kid called every console a Nintendo when I was a kid. And that's why you see the age gap. However, even with xbox being garbage, Sony needs the competition to keep them progressing and to keep them listening to the gamers. Without xbox or another more adult centered console(sorry Nintendo), Sony will get stale and take advantage of it's gamers because there will be no other option. My hope is that xbox crashes and SEGA comes back.

Xbox lost the console war with the Xbox One. They went for family entertainment system first and gaming console second while the playstation was a gaming console first family entertainment system second.
Xbox spent too much time flaunting things like 'the xbox has voice commands and able to clip gameplay' and every ps4 owner was like 'yeah....so does the ps4 but we didnt need to make it half of the advertising'
Some of my friends got Xbox Ones and I could never get over how non user friendly the dashboard is. Its full of ads and the actual 'Play Game' takes such a small space compared to Store buttons and ads. Sure the playstation has ads but only if you go over the actual store or ps plus tab. Also 1000x more simple to navigate.
Also didnt help gaming community goodwill when Microsoft went on an IP exclusive campaign. Xbox Studios really expected Starfield to be the saving grace but when it wasnt really that good at all it was too late the damage was done.

The story gets far far worse!
According to insiders, such as Jason Schreier. The reason Tango got the axe was due to them asking for more assets so they could begin developing Hi-Fi Rush 2. Specifically funding and manpower, and after the purchase of Activation, Microsoft doesn't have the cash.

Part of the reason that streaming services failing is that the model can't really support having so many people involved in it. It will really only work if there is one or two of them at least for mainstream content. People aren't going to subscribe to six or seven different services to watch all of the shows they want to see especially if they only have a casual interest.
They also will not keep six or seven of the same type of subscription going indefinitely just because. Gamepass has the same problem. People will have one or two services they will subscribe to, and they will subscribe and unsubscribe as necessary from all others. Even if they put COD into Gamepass at 20usd they wouldn't necessarily get the full 240USD value of a full year subscription since people will probably cancel and restart as they see fit due to life constraints.
They would be putting themselves into a situation where they would need to wait three months to collect 60USD which can easily fall through at any time due to people canceling before 90 days have elapsed.
Streaming services need to be more like old school video rental stores or Gamefly where you can choose either to sign up for the monthly service or rent an individual title and pay a fee as long as that item is checked out. They need to stop hoping for people to just forget that they have these subscriptions enabled.

Gamers have such a short term memory, look at wild card studios for example, they are the kings of screwing up release dates and delays, they dropped from top 5 sold games on release to one of the least played titles for months! Then when scorched earth finally came out the player base came crawling back. That will happen with this as well. I would bet on it.

I’m one of those people that doesn’t care about game pass I just buy the games I want screw subscriptions besides Xbox live I don’t even pay for GTA plus only when they offer something like a 50 car garage or something like that what I will do is if there’s something from GTA plus that I really want like the 50 car garage from last year they added in the gameI bought it one time and then I cancel the subscription right after I buy it so they don’t keep charging me, but I still get what I want from the from the thing I’ve only done that three times because I don’t really buy into the whole GTA plus thing it’s stupid and with game pass I just don’t care enough to spend the extra money for game pass because you can either get Xbox live regular price or spend a little money more to get game pass plus Xbox live and I just get Xbox live because that’s expensive enough just buy games like I did since the Xbox 360 I’m not going to change and some games I still buy on disc

phil should of been fired years ago. Imagine being in charge of a gaming console and saying "it's not like games sell consoles anyways" ummmm what?¿? That's the only reason people buy consoles. Remember the smart glass?¿? I was like what does that have to do with gaming?¿? Metroid, Mario, Zelda still sell Nintendos, God of War, Spider-Man, Uncharted still sell PlayStations. xbox is like owning a beach with no ocean completely not worth it. xbox has never been able to get me on board, I loved Halo during the bungie days and Gears original trilogy, heck even Fable but xbox doesn't even know what to do with its own ip's anymore, even indie studios sink under them, I say sell the whole company to anyone else cause if you're not going to respect your creations then someone else will. As they say in my generation bye Felicia.

Gamepass ruined Xbox. Games are not movies, they were never meant to be part of a subscription based service. Nobody bought games like HiFi, because why would they, when they can play them for free, with the subscription. The gaming industry is built on sales, when you don't get those sales, you don't make enough money to justify your existence.

If a AAA publisher made a game for 1 million, and it made 500 million the first week. They would be pleased.
When the sequel comes out (again made for 1 million) and makes 500 million the next year within the first 7 days, they will call it a failure, lay off employees and close the studio.
