Android phones have One hand mode, wherein the display shrinks in size and can be navigated with one thumb. Apple lags behind in useful features as usual.
The cinematic mode looks markedly better this year and I think for budding youtubers or other creatives, that could be worth the upgrade (from an older phone at least).

I received my IPhone 14 Pro Max on Friday morning. I’ve gone for a 512 GB version in Deep Purple. I’ve signed up for a 36 month contract through EE. Loving all the features on the phone, I’ve yet to scratch the true surface of the phone. I’ve installed a Mous Limitless 5.0 Aramid Fibre Case alongside a Spigen glass screen protector. Glad I moved over from Android that is for sure.

Nobody is mentioning this, but the iPhone 14 pro line up also has a redesigned 5g chip.. making it 2 times faster in the same location verses the 13 even two times faster Normal LTE speeds over the 13's as well which in my opinion is a very good upgrade that nobody is talking about for some reason.
One thing to note, you have made a comment about recording at night and switching to the 3x lens. If you are recording at full res (which I assume you were) and at full fps (which I would assume too), then you can’t change lenses at all. So that’s just 3x zoom on the main lens. I’m assuming the software is updated to make the most of the 4x binning in lowlight video. That 3X button is just digital zoom on the main camera.
So on 4K30 or 1080P it would actually use the telescope lens instead of digital zoom? What you said is rather interesting and would explain why it appears as less sharp. I wonder if they'll update it.
@@dacejoy02 yes exactly, the iPhone can’t change cameras while recording high quality. Like start zoom and a higher value, then try to zoom out. You can’t. I think at low quality you can push through them all

Thanks for a very detailed review comparing the 2 top iPhone models. Sure sounds like I can hold off on upgrading as I have an iPhone 13 Pro max and I can't really tell the difference in photo and video qualities. Sure the oddly named "dynamic island" is cool, but isn't worth the $900+ I need to pay after trading in my old phone which still has 100% battery capacity. Cheers, mate! From Canada.
I think I will skip this one. Would like higher optical zoom and USB-C for more convenience and speed boost of data transfers. I think they did something quite nice with the pill shape and the way it interacts with applications. But they could have done something similar with the notch and that would still have been pretty cool. So I have my doubts with how long they will stick with this "Dymanic Island" thing. Sounds cool, they know how to make things sound cool. The camera improvements - well, on a day to day usage - where people will mostly be seeing content on their phones - you will be hard pressed to see many differences. However Apple always manages to sell people ideas. New stuff to do. Like now action video, last year cinematic. They plant ideas in peoples heads and customers are intrigued and perhaps an old interest is awaken and now a product is here for them to realise their old ideas. This is what the industry does, in the end, they wake up old ideas we had all along in our heads and present products for us with which we thing we might be able to actually do something about them.
i honestly highly doubt theyre going to go usb c. apple removing the sim tray is just a sneak peek for them removing the charging port and going all magsafe. so if you wanna charge your phone via magsafe youll need to buy an accessory thats apple mfi certified. giving apple more money.
I agree with a lot of your points, but what’s really killed it for me was the eSIM only for the USA. Weirdly I prefer the notch over the island. I prefer to just have a section off the side that I lose out on instead of my video of whatever having to go around some section of screen.
@@catears3053 MagSafe is worse for the battery due to increased heat and also way less efficient. I saw one video where it took 4 hours magesafe charging to 100%… but I don’t remember what phone so take it with a grain of salt. That being said, I can totally see Apple doing that. Making people buy their MagSafe charger. Going with USB-c would just be giving in to the demands of what literally everyone wants, that’s too pro-consumer, lol. Then again, they’re getting in trouble for not including a charger in one area, they pulled their products, so they may shoot themselves in the foot if they have to include a MagSafe charger.

Plus, let’s say you want a screen protector, imagine how ugly it would be if it weren’t a full screen protector but had the “i” shaped cutout. Plus, I heard that in bright light you can distinguish the blackened pixels from the notch. This doesn’t bother me because I live in a dark hole 😅
Cinematic mode was a flop imo. Pro res also didn’t fair well. These are gimmicky now and will be for few more years. Not all apple features become good as people show it to be
Remove the feature they just introduced? No chance. That’ll be there for at least iPhone 15,16 and probably 17. Next year they’ll probably probably add it to the non pro too.

It's a hard pass for me this year with the esim. As someone with multiple phones that likes to switch between them it's an absolute nightmare. Unfortunately I'm sure more manufacturers will start to adopt the same but hopefully they'll make it as simple as just activating it from phone to phone. I'm also not a fan of the island...seems far more intrusive than the actual notch and more like a notification that can't be dismissed.

Opened maps and put my destination in, started driving. Then turned my phone off and the maps on the CarPlay screen kept updating after my phone was “off” so essentially your phone is on standby even after you turned it off. Crazy world we live in
I want Apple to do more work on their potrait mode and telephoto camera .This is the camera and mode that people use the most and loves to use .So improving that will be amazing and I really don’t understand why Apple isn’t using the lidar sensor for portrait mode .It’s been three years since they introduced the lidar sensor but still they are not using it to improve the edge direction and depth mapping while taking portrait mode photos or cinematic video

People can get their money’s worth, it’s good for the environment and if you really want to upgrade every year carriers give such amazing trade in value since iPhones hold their value so well. And with iOS updates every year your device will always feel fresh. I only upgraded from the 12 pro max to the 14 pro max because I felt the upgrades were significant enough for me even though my phone was still amazing as is.
I have a 12 pro max and I can’t upgrade. No lightening port. No split screen. The dynamic island is intrusive and no 8k video. I will keep my 12 pro max and wait for the 15 pro max
for the last few days I was really interested to take the plunge an upgrade my iphone 12 to a 14 pro max. In the end , I could not. I felt the upgrade was good yes as I would be getting better battery/120htz display/ camera's (yes and for me not really)/ Dynamic Island. Its great but when i look at my 2 year old iphone 12, i decided I am just going to get a portable battery pack and wait for the 15 pro max :). One more thing.. no USB Type-c is a deal breaker for me as I would really life faster charging speeds and ease of using one charger for all my devices (macbook Air, headphones etc ).
Yea I agree imma keep my 12 pro max for another year and see what the 15 pro max offers and then I will upgrade.I still think it’s not worth it to upgrade. The thing that I do not like about the dynamic island, is that its at the top of the screen and the only way to get to it is either by invoking one handed mode or maneuvering your hand to reach it which leaves more possibility of dropping your phone. The camera is not that big of a change for me due to not using my phone as my primary camera.
I’m an IPhone user since Iphone 4. Skipped the 7 abs the XS. Liked the 11, 12 and 13. The cameras are the most important feature for me. I have a S22 ultra and a 14Pro in black in front of me. I installed GCAM on the S22 ultra. No comparison, the pictures of the Samsung are substantially better than the Iphone 14 Pro!! Video on the Iphone is better, though. My 13 pro is on sale, will switch to Samsung this year.
Great video Tech chap. I personally upgraded from my 12 pro max pacific blue to an iPhone 14 pro max deep purple which I’m totally loving. The new color looks really awesome in various lighting conditions and the dynamic island is an interesting functionality to have on the new notch.
Not enough of an upgrade over the 13 for me. I want to use the camera mainly for macro shots and they look roughly the same. I just bought the 13 pro max as box opened after watching these reviews. Saved about £350 vs the new Pro max 14 which is well worth it IMO. Biggest disappointment for me is no Usb-C if it had this I'd probably have paid the premium.
I received my 14 Pro a few days ago, upgraded from the 11 Pro Max. I am 100% happy with this upgrade. The smaller size, better camera, DI and Always On are very nice and functional. Best phone I’ve ever owned.
Dynamic island's physical cut out is actually a pill and hole cut out with screen in between and the ui makes it looks like a whole pill shape. U can actually see it in direct sunlight
I bought one yesterday! I upgraded from a used iphone xs max, my iphone 14 pro max is definitely worth the upgrade, truly delayed gratification is best
4 mins in and you already answered my two questions: thumb reachability and smudges on the front facing camera. And just as I expected, it can be a little frustrating, but I guess we’ll have to adapt if we want the latest and greatest

Good video. I do have to say though that the "dynamic island" aka "annoying pill capsule shape screen interrupter" I find quite distracting. I never liked the notch, but this is absurd. It even cuts into the original video mode on the edge that was only an issue on the full screen mode with the notch. Sure Apple made good on a bad design by adding features that technically enhance the cutout, but I am definitely passing on this year and will continue to do so until they come up with something that is more palatable.
I was thinking of switching to the iPhone 14 but, I love my Note 20 Ultra too much. Only a little circle for the front camera cut out and the always on display keeps the screen off while only displaying the time and date and it's very customizable. Also, The zoom is amazing and I can actually take detailed photos of the moon. The main reason I love this phone though is the in screen fingerprint scanner. I would hate to give that up for face unlock. IDK why apple doesn't do an in screen finger print scanner.
I just got my 14 Pro Max today. I’m really enjoying it tbh. I upgraded from the 11 pro max. Right off the bat: -the screen and cameras are significantly better. -The dynamic island.. well.. it does very little. Which is fine tbh. Also I have to politely disagree about the short vs long pressing the island. I like it the way it’s currently set up. (Short for app, long for widget). -I have turned off the always on display though. It’s just too bright and I personally don’t need it. -Also, Somehow the signal is better? Like it latches on to signals better than before. - the one thing I’m confused about is if now this phone tracks “rings” even without an Apple Watch. Feedback on this would be much appreciated. I believe the touch intentions for the dynamic island are consistent with other interactions in the ios. For example single touch on a picture opens it while long press just expands it with other options, same goes for normal notifications and apps. I maybe in minority but I prefer the existing implementation.
idk if there's a video you have that you can refer me to or if it's something you can explain in a reply. but if this video is shot in 4k 24fps, how is there a 4k 60fps playback quality setting for the video? how does the recording fps affect the playback fps? In my head it seems like 24fps scaled to 60fps would mean the footage is slower?

I tested both 13 pro max and 14 pro max side by side as well and the 14 was shooting more cool images while the 13 was shooting warm images that was more closer to the actual color of the room. It really isnt a huge leap between the two of you have the 13 pro max you will still take spectacular photos and video
@@bobbyroberts2566 With the 3x, the difference is negligible for photo quality, similar ISO, similar shutter speed and file sizes. I got the 14PM but it just does not offer enough of a value add over 13PM, so returning it. Even the main lens has comparable pictures unless you are pixel peeping, all shots from main lens on 14 PM have slower shutter and higher ISO. 48MP RAW seems attractive but it's not for everyday user.

I was wondering, a lot of reviewers seem to have mentioned that while very similar, the 14 pro series seems to have just a bit worse battery life than their 13 pro counterparts. I'm wondering, is that comparing the 14 pro series in iOS16 to the 13 pro series in iOS15? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere, but can the worse battery life merely be due to the new operating system rather than just objectively worse battery life (essentially, I'm asking if you've tested the 13 pro and 14 pro battery life in iOS 16 and found that the 14 Pro is still a bit worse)?

Isn’t it consistent with how you would interact with apps and also notifications on the Lock Screen (tap to open app and long press to get more options)? I feel it’s quite a consistent way to interact. I have also seen some other reviewers mention this so maybe I am missing something
You are right, it is congruent, but I think they still intuitively feel that touch and holding feels more restrictive to open the dynamic island window. The dynamic island feels like it should only be a tap away, not a tap and hold every time.
You're right - and I think you could argue both ways. It's just in my mind a dynamic island notification > bigger widget > full screen app - feels like a more natural flow

My last iphone was the 12 pro and i never used a case. I must have dropped it on the concrete around 20 times, and then it finally cracked a year later. I used Apple Care for the first time, not expecting much, but i sent my phone for repair with their packaging they sent me, and I received a brand new phone 2 days later, i was really surprised
I had an i13PM before, and now I have an S22U, which I like better. After watching this video it became clear that it is not worth switching from i13PM to i14PM. So for me, there is no question that I would rather wait for Samsung's answer, the S23U. (Y)
Honestly, the Dynamic Island even if it is not vital, is really very well thought out and fun, use a weakness (pill 💊) to make it a strength 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. But, it also highlights this aspect of Android manufacturers (in this case LG) who are very creative but never go after their ideas 🤦🏽♂️. On the other hand, it also highlights this aspect of Apple which always restricts new software features to new iPhones by wanting you to believe that it is related to hardware 🤧. When I see the pill 💊 and the notch side by side, I can't stop imagining how much display surface Apple would have gained by positioning the pill as a notch and especially by bringing the selfie sensor closer to the Face-iD 🤦🏽♂️ Honestly, if you have an iPhone and it works without problems, it is better to wait until next year for the iPhone 15 which will necessarily have a USB-C port.
They most likely won’t, a lot of photographers use the iPhone not just as their normal phone but as a camera, considering this was shot on the iPhone, I can see why. Apple also encourages photographers which is why they focus on the camera quality.
I’m running the 13 pro max, and absolutely love this thing! After a year of use my overall battery capacity has dropped 1% and I easily get a full day of heavy usage with about 35-40% battery left at the end of my day! I’ll probably end up holding out and waiting to see what the 15 has to offer.
Coming from an owner of iPhone 13 Pro Max, the Dynamic Island feature definitely got me tempted, but I'm skipping for the 15 Pro Max, for the periscopes, USB-C, and perhaps a taller height (6.8-6.9) in general.

Still using my iPhone 8plus along with my iPhone XS. I was gonna get the 14 but decided to wait another year and hopefully the 15 will have some design changes as well. If not oh well, I’ll be getting the 15🙏🏼
The UK/EU price increase is due to the pound sterling/euro tanking in worth over the last year But am still probably going to upgrade my s21 ultra to the 14 pro max
@@kevanmcnay3079 that won’t work as you can’t buy iPhones directly from Apple in the US, and get it shipped to the UK, unless it’s a third party seller or you or someone else is visiting the US to purchase one. But the bigger problem is the US models now only support e-sim, which might not be be supported by mobile phone networks in the UK and other countries.
Coming from the iPhone 11 Pro max. Got my iPhone 14 pro max on release. It was 100% worth the upgrade. It’s the most solid and high quality phone I have ever held. Since maybe the iPhone 4. I love the box like frame. I hated for so many years having that rounded cylinder shape phone. I slung my iPhone 6 Plus down a stone hallway because there was nothing to hold on to. Just from pulling it out of my pocket. That was the last iPhone I had for 4 years or so. The feel the size the volume on videos (almost too loud) A 13 with iOS 16 maybe not be worth the upgrade. But instead of listening to people on the internet. Why don’t you decide for yourselves. Phones these days hold their value and cell like crazy. There are a lot of people that can’t get contracts, or afford the 120$ monthly bill. So they buy phones put right. But the phones are also 1-1,3k$. Still expensive! So they buy used ones. If you can afford the upgrade and don’t mind the bill. Upgrade then and sell your 12-13 iPhones. Everyone wins.
Three things which I was hoping for : 1. I was hoping for a USB-C. It's an absolute travesty that this bare minimum standard has been adopted yet. Even my current Android device costing less than one-fifth of the iPhone has it. 2. Also, it's been almost an year since Samsung and Micron have already developed the LPDDR5X RAM so they could definitely have adopted. However, I think that was a logistics issue. 3. Thirdly, they could definitely have gone upto 8 GB RAM. My device has that as well. Keep a few games and apps on standby and that gap closes fast.
iPhone doesn't need as much RAM as cheap Android phones as iOS is much better optimized. And Lightning is a far better standard than USB-C that's why Apple keeps it. They should switch the iPad back to Lightning IMO in order to better segment themselves from the others.

No way you think this seriously 😂 Lightning has USB 2.0 speeds while USB C has USB 3.0 speeds, newers USB-C are Thunderbolt 3 which has up to 40GBps, Lightning is only 480MBps (to be precise Lightning 480Mbps/60MBps vs. USB-C gen 1 5Gbps/640MBps) That`s why Apple switched iPad to USB-C

I’m actually writing this comment on my new iPhone 14 Pro Max. Surprisingly, the larger screen isn’t that bad at all. In fact, the volume buttons are actually placed lower so your dominant hand can easily reach the volume buttons. Nice. The screen is a bit wider and a smidge longer. That’s it. Otherwise, Apple does a fantastic job keeping the overall feel and look exactly the same for the iPhone 4. I’m using this with no hesitation as the placement for everything is exactly where it’s suppose to be. Other than the improved dynamic notch, you won’t notice a big difference from the previous iPhones. And that’s my honest take on it. Oh, I’m coming from an iPhone X.

I was really considering returning my 14PM and going back to the 13PM but I noticed the timer app which I use often on the dynamic island. I like that I can see the timer within my apps 😀. But other than that it seems like the exact same experience of the 13PM. I’ll hold on to it a little bit longer I have a 14 day window period to return back to Sprint /T-Mobile.
I was very close to buying the 14 Pro Max and trading in my 13 Pro Max yesterday with Apple. I pulled out the last minute just knowing i will honestly see no difference in the two phones - it’s just a “psychological” thing and showing off the silly island notch thing. I might in fact go to Samsung for the Fold 4. I’m tired of waiting for Apple to introduce something mind blowing for once.

The 16.1 beta fixes the island reachability issue, the island now moves down in reachability mode and is much easier to use

I received my IPhone 14 Pro Max on Friday morning. I’ve gone for a 512 GB version in Deep Purple. I’ve signed up for a 36 month contract through EE. Loving all the features on the phone, I’ve yet to scratch the true surface of the phone. I’ve installed a Mous Limitless 5.0 Aramid Fibre Case alongside a Spigen glass screen protector. Glad I moved over from Android that is for sure.

Nobody is mentioning this, but the iPhone 14 pro line up also has a redesigned 5g chip.. making it 2 times faster in the same location verses the 13 even two times faster Normal LTE speeds over the 13's as well which in my opinion is a very good upgrade that nobody is talking about for some reason.
@13:05 The iPhone’s video quality in action mode is light years ahead of the competition in their implementation of this technology.
One thing to note, you have made a comment about recording at night and switching to the 3x lens. If you are recording at full res (which I assume you were) and at full fps (which I would assume too), then you can’t change lenses at all. So that’s just 3x zoom on the main lens. I’m assuming the software is updated to make the most of the 4x binning in lowlight video. That 3X button is just digital zoom on the main camera.
So on 4K30 or 1080P it would actually use the telescope lens instead of digital zoom? What you said is rather interesting and would explain why it appears as less sharp. I wonder if they'll update it.
@@dacejoy02 yes exactly, the iPhone can’t change cameras while recording high quality. Like start zoom and a higher value, then try to zoom out. You can’t.

Thanks for a very detailed review comparing the 2 top iPhone models. Sure sounds like I can hold off on upgrading as I have an iPhone 13 Pro max and I can't really tell the difference in photo and video qualities. Sure the oddly named "dynamic island" is cool, but isn't worth the $900+ I need to pay after trading in my old phone which still has 100% battery capacity. Cheers, mate! From Canada.

I think I will skip this one. Would like higher optical zoom and USB-C for more convenience and speed boost of data transfers. I think they did something quite nice with the pill shape and the way it interacts with applications. But they could have done something similar with the notch and that would still have been pretty cool. So I have my doubts with how long they will stick with this "Dymanic Island" thing. Sounds cool, they know how to make things sound cool. The camera improvements - well, on a day to day usage - where people will mostly be seeing content on their phones - you will be hard pressed to see many differences. However Apple always manages to sell people ideas. New stuff to do. Like now action video, last year cinematic. They plant ideas in peoples heads and customers are intrigued and perhaps an old interest is awaken and now a product is here for them to realise their old ideas. This is what the industry does, in the end, they wake up old ideas we had all along in our heads and present products for us with which we thing we might be able to actually do something about them.
i honestly highly doubt theyre going to go usb c. apple removing the sim tray is just a sneak peek for them removing the charging port and going all magsafe. so if you wanna charge your phone via magsafe youll need to buy an accessory thats apple mfi certified. giving apple more money.
I agree with a lot of your points, but what’s really killed it for me was the eSIM only for the USA.
Weirdly I prefer the notch over the island. I prefer to just have a section off the side that I lose out on instead of my video of whatever having to go around some section of screen.

MagSafe is worse for the battery due to increased heat and also way less efficient. I saw one video where it took 4 hours magesafe charging to 100%… but I don’t remember what phone so take it with a grain of salt. That being said, I can totally see Apple doing that. Making people buy their MagSafe charger. Going with USB-c would just be giving in to the demands of what literally everyone wants, that’s too pro-consumer, lol.
Then again, they’re getting in trouble for not including a charger in one area, they pulled their products, so they may shoot themselves in the foot if they have to include a MagSafe charger.

Plus, let’s say you want a screen protector, imagine how ugly it would be if it weren’t a full screen protector but had the “i” shaped cutout. Plus, I heard that in bright light you can distinguish the blackened pixels from the notch. This doesn’t bother me because I live in a dark hole 😅
Cinematic mode was a flop imo. Pro res also didn’t fair well. These are gimmicky now and will be for few more years. Not all apple features become good as people show it to be
Sticking with my 13 Pro Max hopefully the 15 gets rid of lightning and they improve/remove the dynamic Island.
Remove the feature they just introduced? No chance. That’ll be there for at least iPhone 15,16 and probably 17. Next year they’ll probably probably add it to the non pro too.

It's a hard pass for me this year with the esim. As someone with multiple phones that likes to switch between them it's an absolute nightmare. Unfortunately I'm sure more manufacturers will start to adopt the same but hopefully they'll make it as simple as just activating it from phone to phone. I'm also not a fan of the island...seems far more intrusive than the actual notch and more like a notification that can't be dismissed.
Also makes you easier to track. If you can’t take the sim out then you have to leave your phone behind

@@talltale9760 I know man, I did a test in my car with apple carplay. I have no navigation in my car, just CarPlay which mirrors my phone screen. Opened maps and put my destination in, started driving. Then turned my phone off and the maps on the CarPlay screen kept updating after my phone was “off” so essentially your phone is on standby even after you turned it off. Crazy world we live in
I want Apple to do more work on their potrait mode and telephoto camera .This is the camera and mode that people use the most and loves to use .So improving that will be amazing and I really don’t understand why Apple isn’t using the lidar sensor for portrait mode .It’s been three years since they introduced the lidar sensor but still they are not using it to improve the edge direction and depth mapping while taking portrait mode photos or cinematic video

People can get their money’s worth, it’s good for the environment and if you really want to upgrade every year carriers give such amazing trade in value since iPhones hold their value so well. And with iOS updates every year your device will always feel fresh. I only upgraded from the 12 pro max to the 14 pro max because I felt the upgrades were significant enough for me even though my phone was still amazing as is.

I have a 12 pro max and I can’t upgrade. No lightening port. No split screen. The dynamic island is intrusive and no 8k video. I will keep my 12 pro max and wait for the 15 pro max
for the last few days I was really interested to take the plunge an upgrade my iphone 12 to a 14 pro max. In the end , I could not. I felt the upgrade was good yes as I would be getting better battery/120htz display/ camera's (yes and for me not really)/ Dynamic Island. Its great but when i look at my 2 year old iphone 12, i decided I am just going to get a portable battery pack and wait for the 15 pro max :). One more thing.. no USB Type-c is a deal breaker for me as I would really life faster charging speeds and ease of using one charger for all my devices (macbook Air, headphones etc ).
Yea I agree imma keep my 12 pro max for another year and see what the 15 pro max offers and then I will upgrade.I still think it’s not worth it to upgrade. The thing that I do not like about the dynamic island, is that its at the top of the screen and the only way to get to it is either by invoking one handed mode or maneuvering your hand to reach it which leaves more possibility of dropping your phone. The camera is not that big of a change for me due to not using my phone as my primary camera.

I have a S22 ultra and a 14Pro in black in front of me. I installed GCAM on the S22 ultra. No comparison, the pictures of the Samsung are substantially better than the Iphone 14 Pro!! Video on the Iphone is better, though.
My 13 pro is on sale, will switch to Samsung this year.
Great video Tech chap. I personally upgraded from my 12 pro max pacific blue to an iPhone 14 pro max deep purple which I’m totally loving. The new color looks really awesome in various lighting conditions and the dynamic island is an interesting functionality to have on the new notch.

Not enough of an upgrade over the 13 for me. I want to use the camera mainly for macro shots and they look roughly the same. I just bought the 13 pro max as box opened after watching these reviews. Saved about £350 vs the new Pro max 14 which is well worth it IMO.
Biggest disappointment for me is no Usb-C if it had this I'd probably have paid the premium.

I received my 14 Pro a few days ago, upgraded from the 11 Pro Max. I am 100% happy with this upgrade. The smaller size, better camera, DI and Always On are very nice and functional. Best phone I’ve ever owned.
Dynamic island's physical cut out is actually a pill and hole cut out with screen in between and the ui makes it looks like a whole pill shape. U can actually see it in direct sunlight

You don’t have to adapt to anything. You don’t HAVE to touch the dynamic island,the OS works exactly as it did before.
No matter which phone you have you have to wipe the cameras before use..

Good video. I do have to say though that the "dynamic island" aka "annoying pill capsule shape screen interrupter" I find quite distracting. I never liked the notch, but this is absurd. It even cuts into the original video mode on the edge that was only an issue on the full screen mode with the notch. Sure Apple made good on a bad design by adding features that technically enhance the cutout, but I am definitely passing on this year and will continue to do so until they come up with something that is more palatable.

I was thinking of switching to the iPhone 14 but, I love my Note 20 Ultra too much. Only a little circle for the front camera cut out and the always on display keeps the screen off while only displaying the time and date and it's very customizable. Also, The zoom is amazing and I can actually take detailed photos of the moon. The main reason I love this phone though is the in screen fingerprint scanner. I would hate to give that up for face unlock. IDK why apple doesn't do an in screen finger print scanner.

I just got my 14 Pro Max today. I’m really enjoying it tbh. I upgraded from the 11 pro max. Right off the bat:
-the screen and cameras are significantly better.
-The dynamic island.. well.. it does very little. Which is fine tbh. Also I have to politely disagree about the short vs long pressing the island. I like it the way it’s currently set up. (Short for app, long for widget).
-I have turned off the always on display though. It’s just too bright and I personally don’t need it. -Also, Somehow the signal is better? Like it latches on to signals better than before.
- the one thing I’m confused about is if now this phone tracks “rings” even without an Apple Watch. Feedback on this would be much appreciated.

I believe the touch intentions for the dynamic island are consistent with other interactions in the ios. For example single touch on a picture opens it while long press just expands it with other options, same goes for normal notifications and apps.
I maybe in minority but I prefer the existing implementation.
idk if there's a video you have that you can refer me to or if it's something you can explain in a reply. but if this video is shot in 4k 24fps, how is there a 4k 60fps playback quality setting for the video? how does the recording fps affect the playback fps? In my head it seems like 24fps scaled to 60fps would mean the footage is slower?

Of all the commentary UA-cam videos on the new iPhone, yours is the most objective. You have put iPhone 13 side-by-side for comparison. I really like your video!
I tested both 13 pro max and 14 pro max side by side as well and the 14 was shooting more cool images while the 13 was shooting warm images that was more closer to the actual color of the room. It really isnt a huge leap between the two of you have the 13 pro max you will still take spectacular photos and video
Could you compare 3x telephoto between both in photo and video quality?
@@bobbyroberts2566 With the 3x, the difference is negligible for photo quality, similar ISO, similar shutter speed and file sizes. I got the 14PM but it just does not offer enough of a value add over 13PM, so returning it. Even the main lens has comparable pictures unless you are pixel peeping, all shots from main lens on 14 PM have slower shutter and higher ISO. 48MP RAW seems attractive but it's not for everyday user.

I was wondering, a lot of reviewers seem to have mentioned that while very similar, the 14 pro series seems to have just a bit worse battery life than their 13 pro counterparts. I'm wondering, is that comparing the 14 pro series in iOS16 to the 13 pro series in iOS15? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere, but can the worse battery life merely be due to the new operating system rather than just objectively worse battery life (essentially, I'm asking if you've tested the 13 pro and 14 pro battery life in iOS 16 and found that the 14 Pro is still a bit worse)?

Personally I find a lot of feature that the iPhone 14 pro max has over my 12 pro max. So I believe that is is worth the upgrade this year.
The AOD messed with me for a couple of days but I am already used to it, the little widgets are nice for at a glance information.

Isn’t it consistent with how you would interact with apps and also notifications on the Lock Screen (tap to open app and long press to get more options)? I feel it’s quite a consistent way to interact. I have also seen some other reviewers mention this so maybe I am missing something
You are right, it is congruent, but I think they still intuitively feel that touch and holding feels more restrictive to open the dynamic island window. The dynamic island feels like it should only be a tap away, not a tap and hold every time.
You're right - and I think you could argue both ways. It's just in my mind a dynamic island notification > bigger widget > full screen app - feels like a more natural flow

My last iphone was the 12 pro and i never used a case. I must have dropped it on the concrete around 20 times, and then it finally cracked a year later. I used Apple Care for the first time, not expecting much, but i sent my phone for repair with their packaging they sent me, and I received a brand new phone 2 days later, i was really surprised

I had an i13PM before, and now I have an S22U, which I like better. After watching this video it became clear that it is not worth switching from i13PM to i14PM. So for me, there is no question that I would rather wait for Samsung's answer, the S23U. (Y)

Honestly, the Dynamic Island even if it is not vital, is really very well thought out and fun, use a weakness (pill 💊) to make it a strength 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽.
But, it also highlights this aspect of Android manufacturers (in this case LG) who are very creative but never go after their ideas 🤦🏽♂️.
On the other hand, it also highlights this aspect of Apple which always restricts new software features to new iPhones by wanting you to believe that it is related to hardware 🤧.
When I see the pill 💊 and the notch side by side, I can't stop imagining how much display surface Apple would have gained by positioning the pill as a notch and especially by bringing the selfie sensor closer to the Face-iD 🤦🏽♂️
Honestly, if you have an iPhone and it works without problems, it is better to wait until next year for the iPhone 15 which will necessarily have a USB-C port.

They most likely won’t, a lot of photographers use the iPhone not just as their normal phone but as a camera, considering this was shot on the iPhone, I can see why. Apple also encourages photographers which is why they focus on the camera quality.

I’m running the 13 pro max, and absolutely love this thing! After a year of use my overall battery capacity has dropped 1% and I easily get a full day of heavy usage with about 35-40% battery left at the end of my day! I’ll probably end up holding out and waiting to see what the 15 has to offer.

@@kevanmcnay3079 that won’t work as you can’t buy iPhones directly from Apple in the US, and get it shipped to the UK, unless it’s a third party seller or you or someone else is visiting the US to purchase one. But the bigger problem is the US models now only support e-sim, which might not be be supported by mobile phone networks in the UK and other countries.
They finally fixed the zoom in/out issue w/c started when they introduced the 3 camera system. It’s now smooth again.
13 Pro/Max look like great used value over a new iPhone 14. I would get those if you want to save $ and want 120hz

Coming from the iPhone 11 Pro max. Got my iPhone 14 pro max on release. It was 100% worth the upgrade. It’s the most solid and high quality phone I have ever held. Since maybe the iPhone 4. I love the box like frame. I hated for so many years having that rounded cylinder shape phone. I slung my iPhone 6 Plus down a stone hallway because there was nothing to hold on to. Just from pulling it out of my pocket. That was the last iPhone I had for 4 years or so.

A 13 with iOS 16 maybe not be worth the upgrade. But instead of listening to people on the internet.
Why don’t you decide for yourselves. Phones these days hold their value and cell like crazy. There are a lot of people that can’t get contracts, or afford the 120$ monthly bill. So they buy phones put right. But the phones are also 1-1,3k$. Still expensive! So they buy used ones. If you can afford the upgrade and don’t mind the bill. Upgrade then and sell your 12-13 iPhones. Everyone wins.

Three things which I was hoping for :
1. I was hoping for a USB-C. It's an absolute travesty that this bare minimum standard has been adopted yet. Even my current Android device costing less than one-fifth of the iPhone has it.
2. Also, it's been almost an year since Samsung and Micron have already developed the LPDDR5X RAM so they could definitely have adopted. However, I think that was a logistics issue.
3. Thirdly, they could definitely have gone upto 8 GB RAM. My device has that as well. Keep a few games and apps on standby and that gap closes fast.
iPhone doesn't need as much RAM as cheap Android phones as iOS is much better optimized. And Lightning is a far better standard than USB-C that's why Apple keeps it. They should switch the iPad back to Lightning IMO in order to better segment themselves from the others.

@@bLaffix Lightning as a better standard? No way you think this seriously 😂 Lightning has USB 2.0 speeds while USB C has USB 3.0 speeds, newers USB-C are Thunderbolt 3 which has up to 40GBps, Lightning is only 480MBps (to be precise Lightning 480Mbps/60MBps vs. USB-C gen 1 5Gbps/640MBps)

I’m actually writing this comment on my new iPhone 14 Pro Max. Surprisingly, the larger screen isn’t that bad at all. In fact, the volume buttons are actually placed lower so your dominant hand can easily reach the volume buttons. Nice.
The screen is a bit wider and a smidge longer. That’s it.
Otherwise, Apple does a fantastic job keeping the overall feel and look exactly the same for the iPhone 4. I’m using this with no hesitation as the placement for everything is exactly where it’s suppose to be. Other than the improved dynamic notch, you won’t notice a big difference from the previous iPhones.
And that’s my honest take on it. Oh, I’m coming from an iPhone X.

Whatever that new notch display Island you call it on the iPhone 14 Pro nothing beats the Samsung Galaxy Note10 Plus with the Bezel Less display and the tiny round notch in the middle which hardly covers up anything unlike your ugly looking IPhone recycling the same old use parts & concept from last gen IPhones haha 😂🤣🗑.

Casetify cases are very expensive for a phone. There are many more cases that are not expensive and are very good to save iPhone. But well everyone spends their money as they want. 😄😄

I was really considering returning my 14PM and going back to the 13PM but I noticed the timer app which I use often on the dynamic island. I like that I can see the timer within my apps 😀. But other than that it seems like the exact same experience of the 13PM. I’ll hold on to it a little bit longer I have a 14 day window period to return back to Sprint /T-Mobile.
You could buy an apple watch for the timer, far more useful if it’s on your wrist all the time! It’s like 90% of what I use my watch for🥲

I was very close to buying the 14 Pro Max and trading in my 13 Pro Max yesterday with Apple. I pulled out the last minute just knowing i will honestly see no difference in the two phones - it’s just a “psychological” thing and showing off the silly island notch thing. I might in fact go to Samsung for the Fold 4. I’m tired of waiting for Apple to introduce something mind blowing for once.

Nice video as always. Can you test if the notch covers the UA-cam video when it plays 18:9 aspect ratio? I've heard people had problem with the newer iPhone 13 series, since the notch is lower
