Ive got the Gyro, its a great helmet. The convertable feature is useless to me, i only use it with the chin bar. The day i take it off will be the day i wish id left it on knowing my luck. Bought it on sale, great buy.

My Giro certainly saved me on a bike park crash which retired it. I personally found it pretty uncomfortable and on/off I was faffing removing the chin bar to take the helmet off as it was a really tight fit over the ears.. which is all concerning for helmet removal post crash. Hence i didn't replace it. I also wasn't used to the moto style chin strap and found it a fiddle but I did get better at it.
I now use a POC Coron Spin for Bike Park and despite being heavier it's night and day more comfortable for me... maybe its the weight distribution and more tune-able fit on the POC? It's also significantly more easy to remove and with the quick release safety pads a much better bike park option IMO.
I did use the Giro a couple of times on winter night rides on a non ebike but I never used it on cool/warm day rides as i'd have boiled my brain... still a much more comfortable option on an Ebike and if it fits you well and removes easier than for me then yeah its a reasonable option for non BP stuff IMO.

Just watched your vid I guess I’m going to have to work out my neck and head lol 😂, I just purchased the Giro Switchblade I started doing a little bit of enduro more technical riding. I think by your review that you feel more safer with the Switchblade made me choose between these 2 helmets I’m a person with epilepsy so if I crash the impact of hitting my head can trigger a seizure depending on how safe the helmet is so I went with the Switchblade might be a little heavier , but if it can prevent me from getting a big seizure than it’s the helmet I’ll use. Just hoping I don’t break my neck lol , also with MIPS I think it will make a big difference

I prefer the Bell. Great review!

that small pad in front at the top of the helmet is supposed to be a sweat pad that redirects your forehead sweat an inch away from your goggles. I found it better to wear goggles with it

My one and only favorit: Giro switchblade 👍👍👍👌

I don't think it is all that useful to say you "feel safer" in one helmet over the other. Just because a heavier helmet feels more sturdy does not necessarily mean it is going to be better protection...
My main worry with the Giro is that the mounting mechanism for the chinbar doesn't look that solid. I read a comment from someone that it had come off the helmet in a crash and also a long-term video review on YT said that after just 6 months of use the attachment mechanism on the helmet side had started to come apart.
In contrast the super DH chinbar may be more difficult to mount but it also seems more likely to stay in place even in a crash and not likely to degrade over time.

After using both for a few years I now use a Giro Insurgent for DH riding and a Specialized gambit for enduro and they are great! This video is a few years old now and the market has moved on!

@2:27 you say the bell is heavier and noticeable, but the data says the opposite. Which is it?

Maybe I made a mistake the giro is 100grams heavier sorry for the stuff up

Thanks mate, I also watched your Super DH review. Something that every review misses is the question of sizing. For eg. how does the Medium fit on a head size thats on the fringe between medium and large, ie 59cm?

Thanks for the video dude Im looking at both theses helmets and trying to decide what to get as they are both good helmets. I had a giro half face helmet until I had a big crush on the head so I'm really Considering the switchblade but im wondering about the size I have a 58.5 cm head so wondering if its best to get a medium or a large

    • @SamsBikes
      @SamsBikes  2 роки тому

After having all of them I think the best helmet now is the new specialized gambit or the trot lee stage, i actually broke the switchblade in a crash and I think full face is actually better stronger and I almost never took the full face park off.

I have the 3R The system that tightens around your head loosens really easily and would definitely loosen in a crash, is it suppose to do that?! And is this thing actually good for mountain biking?! There’s no padding, and the helmet seems really thin! I’m mainly going to use this for fast biking around the city and hill Bombing would it hold up to a good crack of the head on the concrete?!?

Mate Bell make great Helmets, its a lighter weight helmet so I would be looking at one of these two for more hardcore riding

Really nice review, I tried on both and bought the Giro because it squeezed my jaw less, but still seemed I "felt" more protected like you mentioned.
Is it common to break the visors? Mine didn't come with the spare GoPro mount visor, I feel like I'd want it even if I don't use GoPro much yet

@@SamsBikes In trail riding yes, but a couple of the coaches at our Bike Park here in ChCh NZ won't touch them for the rock fast tracks we have here. I think they have been improved steadily but I personally think the TLD stage and Fox Pro Frame are better. The TLD Stage fit is also sublime. Neither are as good at keeping cool as the options with removable chin guards as I think the chin pad add to all day riding discomfort.....BTW I am waiting for a Merida e160 with Ep8... that last vid with you mate was rad
