@@smann7236Bangkok itself is indeed the most expensive area in Thailand, but there are a lot of choices when it comes to whichever district you want to live. However, if you live further away from those just like most locals everything will be way cheaper. You can still go to those "expat areas" with buses or BTS or MRT tho

I am Thai and have been living in the United States for over 10 years. I visit my home country every other year, and every time I go back, I feel like I'm a millionaire. However, my view is that if you earn an income in USD or EUR, GBP or even AUD or CAD, you will surely live in Thailand comfortably. Which I think expats and foreigners seem to forget about-that many local Thai people don't have the same privilege as they are. I still have not yet considered whether I would retire in Thailand or the United States. Since both places have pros and cons. And I have seen more cons in Thailand than the U.S. at this point. (I understand you may think I'm crazy to not retire in Thailand, but for a person like me who was born and raised in Thailand until 21 years old, don't you think I have seen it all?) Anyway, what I would recommend is that while you were there, please go out and see other areas of the country. Thailand is culturally diverse; each part of the country is interesting to explore, and Bangkok does not necessarily represent a whole country.
The reason why Thai Americans should retire in Thailand? Because the health care in the USA has become such a disaster. Waiting lists everywhere, poor services, high insurance cost unless you're qualified for the Medicaid which is free but again, long lines, poor services. Doctors here aren't interested in curing your diseases anymore but more interested in putting you in a permanent treatment program that they can bill you monthly. If your kid is American, chances are he/she won't take care of you and you will have to stay in a nursing home which is extremely expensive and most likely you will get neglected by the nurse who may have to take care of 10+ other elderly patients 😂 In Thailand you can get a personal nurse one on one and a private apartment with resort style quality for less than $1500. I'm not reaching the retirement soon but I already figured out a lot of benefits to return to my beloved country Thailand. 😊
@@nathalia7104 You brought out a good point. I still have a long way to go to reach retirement. Yes, if you go to a private hospital in Thailand, you will be treated like royalty. But if you go to a government hospital, you are expecting to be treated as poorly as you would experience in the U.S. Most of these expats and foreigners only make a vlog out of fancy hospitals and never once go to what "real" local Thai people have to experience. To be fair, some of the private hospitals in Thailand are as expensive as you would have to pay in the United States. But the majority of them are still affordable for USD money.
@@SecretObservantI’m Thai and i go to government hospital all the time because it’s free and people in the hospital didn’t treat me poorly at all though, all of them speak to me nicely, so being treat poorly is not always true, at least, for my experience.
@@SecretObservant My mom who used to work for the Thai government got her free health care from her retirement benefits. She went to Siriraj Hospital (a gov hospital) all the time and the services there are top-notch, one of the best in the country (Even the royal families go there all the time.) But because of traffic, recently we took mom to the clinics or local hospital near our home for general elderly treatment instead. The cost is still free. The services are still much more efficient than in the USA. We just walked in and got the appointment on the same day. We saw the doctor and they sent 2 nurses to guide us through the process. After that, we went to pick up her medicine in the same building. The whole process took us 2-3 hours on their busy day. So convenient and so efficient. And me, who waited the entire 6 months for my colonoscopy here in the US it's a really unbelievable thing to see. 😂

Native Americans are Asians by DNA and geographic lineages. Native Americans were robbed of and stripped of their “Asian” and Native identity (and lands) in the Americas.

It is also undeniable that the US was founded on the genocide of NA's and therefore, it is true that the country was founded on discrimination and genocide of Asian Americans. The only two strong things I will strongly praise Asia has been is it’s great medical priced scene and it’s so so so safe.

Thailand has also introduced a new Thai Elite Visa: Bronze, it's a lot cheaper at 650K baht, so about 18K USD. It's good for 5years. It doesn't have as much benefits as the other Thai Elite Visas, but it has a good amount of the same benefits. The main difference is it's geared toward people who want to stay long term in Thailand without the additional bells and whistles of the other Thai Elite Visas.

David, I look forward to the new content. Could you include videos of the cost of living for the different places in Asia you are planning to visit? And could you talk about stuff like how difficult it is to pick up a new language. I have two kids around your age who I have been encouraging to consider living in the East. They are both 5th generation Chinese North American in academia and research so they are finacially comfortable here but are being offered quite a bit of incentives to return to the "motherland". A substancial portion of their colleagues has already made the move but those individuals are 1 gen and may have an easier time adjusting. Looking forward to seeing all the new videos.
Hi. For TH and Malaysia, I'd say minimum of $1500/month to have a good expat life. Singapore is more pricey, so maybe $2000. For Cambodia, VN, PH, Indonesia, Laos, one can live on $1000/ month. Myanmar is in civil war now, so wouldn't recommend. Brunei is good for a short visit but many ppl find it "boring". Of course as with anywhere, it depends on one's lifestyle. If one lives in the capital or big cities, rents will be higher. If one likes to eat in restos, drink, party, travel etc then expenses will increase. In the last group of countries that I mentioned, one can survive on $500 or less (like a local) but most expats or Western-raised ppl won't want that. It would mean living without A/C, cooking at home, etc. Korea & Japan would cost more, as they're almost at par with USA prices. One also has to factor in visa costs, if one is not a dual citizen. If they haven't traveled/ visited for a holiday, then I suggest that they check it out first before making a big leap.
🥰 Thailand must be so beautiful and lovely enjoy 😉 and the best of that asia is much better than the states and other countries and share wonderful moments with your family and friends and subscribers
I am half Thai half American. I worked in US and now I'm retired in Thailand. I agree it's much more comfortable retiring here; your money goes further. It also helps to have dual citizenship.

The comparison is interesting and impressive considering the length of time you have in Bangkok. Anyway, welcome to Bangkok Thailand, the land of smile. Although you'll see more smiling faces outside of Bangkok due to the faster pace of live.
Good move, IMO. I hope you'll learn and adopt a majority mindset living in Asia. A majority mindset ain't saying superiority or similar, it's just saying that iner thoughts of yourself as an Asian, is more the norm amongst a majority Asian population. I think living in CONUS, most Asians have a minority mindset which affects confidence and self worth. You mentioned Thong Lor to stay at in BKK. I think areas like Ratchada or On Nut might also be good. Basically anywhere close to a MRT or BTS station. Good luck.
My advice is that you should move from place to place in Thailand, not just in Bangkok. Places like Chiang Mai or Pattaya are great too for digital nomads. You can also explore nearby Malaysia and Singapore. Also, Thailand may still be cheap, but it's becoming very materialistic nowadays. So if you don't have discipline on your finances, it won't be cheap.
This is the way. If you're Asian-American, you owe it to yourself to travel and explore living some time in Asia.

Having said that, I hang out with normal average income friends [Chinese Thai community is closed knit_connected since they were in primary and secondary school ], I will go out for drinks around.at PromPong, I sit and listen to all these expats going on about how trendy Asia really is and cheap, while drinking their 600 baht cocktails. When I moved here to my area it was emporium and considered the boonies. Now I have emsohere, emquatier, and its already feeling like my old days living in Seoul. The only two strong things I will strongly praise Asia has been is it’s great medical priced scene and it’s so so so safe.
No conservative idiots and their obsession with guns to compensate for their tiny mushroom and tiny brain.
You’re well-off enough to live like the elite Thai.
Woww hope you enjoy Songkran on April 13-15. Im so excited for you!! On the day your lease going to finish of 6 months.
I can see you renewing for another 6 months after you get settled and find how easy and challenging it is to live in BKK. And as many of us are feeling this is a good time to leave the US while trump is messing with our democracy. 😊 I’ll be moving over to BKK in early 2025 for a couple years at least.
straight from a starbucks ha love it. thats a good one the only 24hr one in the area
Forbes 2024 reports :
( Over 12,500 expats living in 53 cities across 35 countries )
Number 1 = Bangkok ❤️
The Best city to live in Asia
Number 6 = Bangkok ❤️
The Best city to live in the World
Now, you got the next challenge to conquer...
Surviving the peak summer in Thailand.
Best wishes during your time in Bangkok. Would love to see a cost of living segment during your time there.
Literally everybody in America is moving to Asia at this point. The west is collapsing hard and fast unser hypercapitalism and ridiculous cost of living.
All the best in Bangkok, David
You'll have a good time here, It's high season and best weather all over the country.
18k for a 5 year visa? You gotta be smoking crack! 😂
Just get the DTV for 300 USD.
@@magicfire1 I want to live in Thailand and not have to leave. You still have to leave the country with the DTV.
@@cjack202003 Once every 6 month or you can extend at immigration. But need to leave and come back eventually. Best deal was the previous 20 year elite visa at 1M THB, which was a steal. For 300 usd, DTV is a steal
Living in Hawaii luxury real estate & tourism is it.. I visited Seoul & was BLOWN AWAY super cool & tech forward.. I subscribed to hear your take on Asia too🫶🏼🇺🇸💜🙌🏼
and i’ve reached the point of moving out of bangkok to a smaller town.
but yeah, bangkok is amazing place :)
Congrats bro. Thailand is hub to fly to other countries in SEA.
Love this video! Thanks for sharing David! 👍👍👍
Very nice standpoint mate 🫡😎 hope you enjoyed your stay in Bangkok Thailand and success for your UA-cam channel 🫡
Wow, I am really surprised, but very happy for you. I am here for the journey with you!
🥰 Thailand must be so beautiful and lovely enjoy 😉 and the best of that asia is much better than the states and other countries and share wonderful moments with your family and friends and subscribers
You Thai fan here. Watch you guys for over 10 years
I hope you continue to have a strong bond with your brother and I wish you the best of luck!
How exciting! If I didn't have my family here in the states would definitely like to join your team. Best of luck to you!!
I am half Thai half American. I worked in US and now I'm retired in Thailand. I agree it's much more comfortable retiring here; your money goes further. It also helps to have dual citizenship.
Crazy you are in town! I just moved here from Laos too but for 5 months already! Super quick to feel like home. Cant wait to hear more from your experience after awhile!
I love how unbothered you are vlogging inside Starbucks
interesting. I'd actually be interested in reaching out. I am currently based in HK but I have a lot of love for Thailand.
I feel so sure most ppl would fall in love with cities for good in Thailand as long as they once been there.
Good for you bro. Time to highlight Asia. Enough videos and I might make the move myself lol 😂
Thats a big move. Coming from an asian in SEA , Im really excited for you. Best of luck.
It would be cool to see you travel around the major cities in thailand - phuket, chiang mai, chiang rai, pattaya etc. Born and raised in singapore but now currently living in Australia, and i totally agree with you about the cost of living, advancements in technology and infrastructure, societal values etc. I defo see Asia's rise and I'm proud of our progress 🙌🙌
Also, i believe Thailand and the Far East is
investing in their people and their future. At
Terminal 21, the landlord gives the
restaurants reduce rent so they can launch.
Also, farangs realize, at least the smart
ones, that being in Thailand is a blessing
And will not do anything to blow it. So crime
is low, and appreciation of Thai culture is
high. Thailand don't play about their country.
Historically and now!
David, just watched your announcement about your 6 month move to Thailand. I'll be on Long Island in January for a niece's wedding. I've known you and Andrew since your arrival from Washington State. Safe travels, always know you've got a friend here in LA and my NY hometown. Looking forward to your future content👍👍 MGB🙏🙏
Good for you David. Asia has always been the place to be. We have the option to always go back home.
good luck David!
Great move David! Looking forward to seeing fresh content from you!
Cool! Kinda funny that you had to justify it to the audience, but good for you! Have a blast, and can't wait to see the new content.
So happy for you!!! As an Asian American I want to move to Thailand so badly!
Nice, make some local friends that will show you all around and take up some Thai language classes.
I think you would like to visit Vietnam too.
Congrats David 👏 🎉😊
You needed this !!
You needed to get away from the BS in America !!
Try to stay in Asia as long as possible !!
Your knowledge of real America is an asset !!
You are a smart thinking man, wish you the best !!
Man oh man I just left Thailand and let me tell you this.. Me moving there is HIGH on the table!!
hey man.. You don't need to justify yourself. Enjoy Thailand. I hear it is great.
What I'd like to see:
1. BRICS effects on local, state, governmental levels.
2. Local economy: wealth distribution.
3. Business opportunities, roadblocks, foreign investment, etc.
4. Acceptance of "foreign Asians, Americans, Europeans " into local culture.
Whats her name? Kidding. Congrats on doing what works for you.
Only to find out that she's a he 😂
True..."What's HIS name?" 🤣
Interesting take on point 5. i am Thai and live in Diamond Bar, never really thought Thonglor and Ekamai as having a big RH and DB vibe. Either way, I am just happy to hear you are living in Thailand for an extended time. Be careful, you might find it very hard to come back to the States.
For food in Thailand. Have a look at the roaming cook. Not sure he's compatible with your style but he's an Englishman who's passionate and very respectful to Thai and Asian cultures in general. At the very least, his food finds is second to non.
You brought back a subscriber 😂😂😂 jealous
Everyone is moving. I too will move in the Philippines.
Interesting.... at least when you discuss things about this phenomenon you have a good foundation to speak from. I can only hope that you show your lifestyle (how you live etc.) in Bangkok. it would be amazing to actually see what you speak of.
Visiting there and living there are two different things. Try it for the 6 months and see if you really like it .
I love to go back asap.. enjoy living bro !
excited to watch your new content once you get settled in Thailand. I saw the Netflix YT video "Ronny Chieng Takes Chinatown" & the whole thing was funny & true 😆 Upward & onward, the Brothers 🙌
Miss OG fung bros vids
I predict that David will love it out there and end up never moving back to the states.
You can work remotely anywhere in the world. With American passport is a plus that you can visit most countries without any Visa required.
The comparison is interesting and impressive considering the length of time you have in Bangkok. Anyway, welcome to Bangkok Thailand, the land of smile. Although you'll see more smiling faces outside of Bangkok due to the faster pace of live.
.. Waiting ....for the 1 week in Thailand 2 weeks in Thailand video!
Good move, brah. If you have income disconnected to location, then getting out of NYC is the right choice.
OMG Welcome Welcome WELCOME!!!🥳👏👏👏
Good move, IMO. I hope you'll learn and adopt a majority mindset living in Asia. A majority mindset ain't saying superiority or similar, it's just saying that iner thoughts of yourself as an Asian, is more the norm amongst a majority Asian population. I think living in CONUS, most Asians have a minority mindset which affects confidence and self worth. You mentioned Thong Lor to stay at in BKK. I think areas like Ratchada or On Nut might also be good. Basically anywhere close to a MRT or BTS station. Good luck.
Come over to Singapore!
Congrats on your choice , Bangkok is dope !
Exciting times! Hope you can visit Philippines too
