Asian culture can be a double-edged sword. Both boys and girls in western societies are berated or ridiculed for their poor grasp of their mother language. IMO this bears different results for girls compared to boys. Because girls are biologically inclined to seek ways around it, they are more likely to completely abandon their Asian roots and sometimes even look down on their roots, guaranteeing some security by escaping ridicule or criticism. Boys are biologically inclined to fight and express anger, so they are more vocal about their identity struggle, and that's why identity-exploring channels like these are predominantly male. Anwyay, my two cents.
The root of this is the hypocrisy of Asian parenting. Parents criticise their kids for not speaking the mother tongue, and when the kids try, the parents ridicule them for speaking poorly. There is very little coaching or encouragement.

This isn't meant to be a fish for attaboys, but I'm a White (Italian American) guy, and I grew up around mostly Chinese friends back in high school in the late 90s. In fact, they were all recent Chinese immigrants. We are still very close friends to this day. More like brothers. I personally never understood why people made fun of Asian guys, and I'd regularly get physical to defend my friends. But, I think a lot of it has to do with that a lot of non-Asians think Asian men are not tough. This is outrageously untrue. Asians are some of the toughest people on the planet, certainly mentally. Asian men are just taught that it is masculine to exhibit self-control and emotional stability whereas Western men are taught it is masculine to express aggression and anger. But, losing your cool is really more of a sign of being a child than a man, in my opinion after being exposed to the Asian way of thinking. Secondly, a lot of people are jealous of Asian success and how fast Asians achieve success in the West, so they pour the haterade.

Problem is asians can out compete people thats why there is racism and discrimination. I heard in the past white america literally burned a whole black town down because they begun to out compete them. It is easier not to be racist or discriminate when there is no competition. But in reality true equality is reached when you respect your opponent as a worthy adversary with sportmenship. Then a weak opponent you can be kind to since you dont see them as a threat. I think it's the media and how Hollywood portrayed us as weak and nerdy looking. While growing up as a kid, pre-puberty, watching bay watch with all the hot white women, I really thought I was going to marry a white girl. But I grew up in a neighborhood with a lot of Asians, and later realize that I love Asian girls, not that I am not open to dating other race, it just depends who you are surrounded by. I never have self-hate and I love being Asian because we're intelligent, very strong for our size, and have excellent work ethics. Look at what came from Asia? Gun powder, martial arts, good food.... Forget the stereotypes, but there are a lot of positive things about being an Asian. We also have great athletes that are Asian, like Ohtani, Inoue, Pacquiao. People always think it's a high risk to cast an Asian male actor as the lead, but people loved Glenn(Steven Yuen), Bruce Lee, Han(Sung Kang). Sung Kang was about to be replaced by a black guy, how racist is Hollywood?

As an Asian dad raising 2 boys I needed to stress the importance of the heroes journey.
Both my sons since they were young have taken Kendo lesson for a few years. My eldest continued with Laido and youngest continued with Brazilian Jui-Jitsu and Wrestling. Learning these marital arts in order to be disciplined.
Both are proficient in firearms such rifle, shotgun and pistol.
Stressed as men we must earn our value and competence is very important. Keep in company with friends that have good moral character. We are protectors and providers of our family.
Unfortunately, for myself I was not taught these masculine endeavors. Funny thing is that I had to learn some of these masculine traits from the 1970/1980’s Shaw Brothers kung fu movies. Most of the Shaw Bros. movies stressed the importance of competence in mastering a skill to fight and weaponry, a brotherhood, sacrifice and heroes do not always survive, but they always accomplish their mission no matter what the cost.
We men, especially Asian men no longer have a strong male role. We have become virtual Eunuches castrated of our manhood. In order to serve our Master of comfort and an easy life. We are taught from the beginning we need to be doctors, lawyers and engineers because these are respected, “safe” and comfortable office careers.

Hahaha not like Mainland Chinese people even care what some South Korean think about us, since China is developing so rapidly we could careless about it, like Truth to be told, most Mainland Chinese people knows way more about Korea, have travel to Korea/Seoul/Busan/Jeju island on trips, than Korean do about China. Most Korean on average tend not to visit China anyways (most of y'all don't even know about the different provinces in China other than the Shanghai or Beijing cities that is it) since some Korean think China is still back water land lol but you guys will visit Japan, Hongkong or Taiwan any day. Anyways most Mainland Chinese don't care that much anyways about it since we Chinese know we are getting better and better everyday, and we don't rely on foreign tourists for economic development okay like y'all countries do, there are enough Chinese domestically for that. Also most Chinese on average are way chill and way less racist towards other Asians or foreigners on average, since China has always been a Empire with big land and different regions so we are way less judgemental on average compared to other Asian countries (aka Korea and some others).

We need to change some aspects our culture to survive and thrive. Drop the bad aspects of our culture - passiveness, non confrontational aspect - and embrace new culture - standing up for ourselves, pride in who we are, the ability to debate and question others and also as Asians - we need MORE unity. Great video but i kind of disagree with their suggestion that our stereotypes are somewhat caused by a proportion of Asian males being "weak" or "uncool". In my view, Asian males have been no less or no more weak and uncool than other races of men. It's just that the media and societies one way traffic and unfair portrayal of Asian men has led to how they are treated in reality, meaning that improving oneself, physically and professionally, whille important to achieve for success, won't make a difference to how racist media (mostly instigated by males who want to remain top) represent us and so they inequality remains. I think that the hans video was trying to point this out and that their needs to be a larger movement towards consequences to racism against Asian males akin to that of other races. And not kissing the behind and trying to change the beliefs of racists who perpetuate Asian male racism for their own benefit and do not want to change, gaslighting AMs along the way.

I agree with you 🤟. "Whoever controls the media, controls the culture". I think fung bros just don't quite realize how much the media impacts the human subconscious. Like you said, the majority of black, hispanic, and white men are just as weak and uncool as asian men. The source of the problem is in the psychological bias, not the physical attributes. Personal success only benefits the individual, it has little impact on the socio-macro scale. To fix the problem, we have to change the Narrative of the Mainstream Media.
The main obstacle for asian american men is because we look down on each other too much, we become gate-keepers of success, instead of trying to help pull each other up. If more asian american male billionaires/mulit-millionaires just actually care, and put great effort into improving the image of asian men in american media, in 10 years time there will be a whole new america.
There's a reason why millions of western women and latinas are currently flocking to south korea in order to search for their "dream korean guy". It certainly wasn't because the average korean men started to "work out more", lol. It was all just due to kpop and kdrama.

To be fair, they didn't really have safety regulations in Hong Kong when it came to shooting movies back then. That changed when Hong Kong was returned to China.
However, most people in the West nowadays don't actually bother with Eastern content unless it's served to them on a platter like Netflix. Just take a look at Shogun. There are plenty of Japanese feudal era shows of higher quality than that, but Western audiences went for one that was made presentable to the West.

Would it help if more East Asian-Americans understood their histories? For instance, the Mongols were one of the fiercest peoples. China is one of the great civilizational states that has endured for 6,000 years. East Asian nations have overcome grinding poverty to offer their citizens a remarkable level of economic wealth.
