I grew up in Bangkok, studied my Master in London and visited NYC two times. I found BKK can offer you very good quality of life in terms of “value for Money” for food, accommodation and transportation. You can live your life upto your budget.. In London and NYC, most of the things are very expensive. On the healthcare side, the private hospitals in BKK are very expensive but you can get access to the healthcare service much easier than in London.
Bangkok is sweat city and the air quality is absolutely terrible during burning season- the one time of the year when the temperature becomes tolerable. You can't win
This is true for the most part, unfortunately there are so many hotspots both inside Thailand and the neighboring countries. Unlike in the U.S. where NYC is far from a farmer who burns his fields preparing for a new growing season. - Air Quality could be bad in that season mixed between combustion fume and smog.
Those PM contaminated air were mainly from Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia. Start from this year, our government will not buy crops from any company these 3 countries who use burning farm field.
Lots of homeless in Bangkok, especially along Sukhumvit Road near the BTS. The difference is that they tend to stay outside, so you won't find them inside the trains with other passengers. But generally, you do not see blatant robberies in BKK because that stuff isn't tolerated there.
I'm Thai-American and own homes in both NYC and BKK. The majority of my family and wife's family live in Thailand. I plan on retiring in BKK in the next 15 years if everything works out, and as long as my daughter becomes financially independent. In the meantime I'll just have to settle with going back to Thailand once every 1-2 years to visit my family and to check on my house in BKK. Whenever I go back I go crazy and just indulge in the food and culture. Ohh as far as the food goes I always come back to NYC like 5-10 pounds heavier.
I'm Thai. Please don't praise Bangkok too much. Because I still feel My country's capital is still not perfect. We are still a 3rd world country that is trying to develop. And it should be even better in the future.
New York is fun for visiting but to live there NO way!!! Bangkok on the other hand is fun to visit and enjoyable for living. Also in Bangkok you don't need to make in the 6 figures and break the bank like New York to enjoy life and hang out with your friends on the weekend.

To be honest I always thought NYC is overrated! When i visited Saigon, Shenzhen, GZ, HK, Shanghai and even tier 2 cities like Chengdu they are more modern cities and fancier amenities than NYC. NYC is old as shit and modern or nice as this place. The giant mall with water park in Chengdu blows NYC. Western hotels like intercontinental hotels are better than in Asian hotels than they are in the states. I grew in SF and the hotels there sucks when compared to the ones in Asia.
NYC is definitely not overrated. 🤣 We're not talking about modern or fancy amenities - that alone doesn't make the city great. What makes the city great are the quality of restaurants, shops, cafes, the architecture and design, the types of people that live in the city, the events, activities, opportunities, the energy etc. No one in their right mind thinks Chengdu, Saigon or Shenzhen are better than NYC. 🤣 Compare NYC to London, Paris, Bangkok, Tokyo sure, not tier 2 Chinese / SE Asian cities.
@ you should travel more. I have been around the world twice. You are too brainwashed by US mainstream media. There is nothing impressive about NYC. Run down subways, homeless people, rats 🐀 in streets, outdated buildings, etc. The only thing going for it is the New York stock exchange which makes a financial hub and statue of liberty 🗽. Cities in Asia and places in UAE all blow NYC. I rather live in places like Taipei and Saigon over NYC . These cities were voted top 25 cities to live in the world by expats. NYC is not in even top 40s list.
I've been to most of those Asian cities and they feel like the future. I don't understand why anyone would want to visit NYC, it's some kind of marketing scam lol.
@@orionvassi the crime against Asians in particular is out of control in NYC. I used to go there for the cheap food in particular in flushing queens but it’s no longer worth. compared to NY, BKK just hits home every note man. accessibility, food, cultural diversity, safety, housing, friendliness of the locals. But there is nothing to be sad about, NY is by no means a bad place. It's just that BKK is exceptional and unique in it's own way. It is by no mean perfect but at least for me not many city in the world can goes head to head with it.
The high speed train is hopefully will be in the near future. So far it reached Vientiane. And if they complete the sections through Thailand, then it will change the game for land travel throughout SEA.
I am Thai, and I think both cities have many similarities and differences. One of the biggest differences is that Bangkok has a much worse urban planning system. This is why it often floods, has severe traffic congestion, and restaurants are scattered everywhere without proper organization.
Other than the weather, I much prefer Bangkok. It's nice knowing I won't get robbed, stabbed, or have to deal with random crazy people and a legal system that refuses to do anything about it.
Have not been NYC for a long time. I was there in 1998 and it was one of the greatest experiences in my life. So sad to learn that it is in a downfall period now
I will definitely not argue with you on one thing. "Tuk Tuk" or the Thai rickshaw did spread around the world from Bangkok. There are other versions of them around the world, but Bangkok isan original, and was well publicized through travel and entertainment scenes to the global eyes. Street Food is a lot harder to say where it was first popularized around the world, but somehow Thailand became very famous for it. Finally, I believe open-air markets will be Bangkok's next jewel given how Chatuchak and other food markets are becoming to global travelers. Great video guy!!! Very interesting topic.
I known this you going to making this content!! Nothing in Bkk is similar to NYC but Bkk it better than NYC! Nyc is only the red stairs in Manhattan that look only impressed the city :-) accrossing I was living in NYC for 10 years. 😂😢🎉
For the transportation part, MTA has weekly fare cap and free connected bus. Bangkok has BTS ,MRT and Blue bus that were operating by different companies, I have to carry 3 different cards to travel around it was just an inconvenience mess and expensive. I am Thai like the US more.
There is also a large Burmese community. Should try out some real Burmese food in BKK. There are many Burmese people there now because of the civil unrest in Myanmar (Burma)
No, they are not. Aliens never invaded Bangkok. The Avengers never frequently fought alien invaders in the comic books and movies in Bangkok. The title of "Battle of Bangkok" is frequently reserved for a type of genre in unsuitable for children.
The more you praise my city and compare it to other places, the more Thailand will be hated by anyone who is dissatisfied. Keep the good things in your heart and answer only when asked. We live like this, we don't compare to anyone, we don't praise ourselves all the time. Whoever is number 1, we are happy. The Thai nature is that anything goes and it doesn't matter.
You commenting is ok ... but would really like to see vlogs where you take your audience with you during the times you are actually experiencing the city, community, culture etc. IMO, show us you actually living the life in another country.
Both cities hold so many homeless people.😂 Thai hobo are less violent, from my pov. But they might beg for money. Don't give them money. The money will just goes to drug and alcohol. They don't have to buy food, people always give them meals and water. Sometimes, Thai people are just too nice.
There are no-go areas in Bangkok. Crime ridden labyrinths, rundown shop houses. You've just never seen them. And you haven't been through Bangkok scorching hot summer starting from mid-Feb.
See a lot of comments about how safe BKK is compared to NYC here, which I kinda agree with and the part that says Thai people are very kind etc. But guys, as a Thai person, there are areas and places you don't go to in BKK as well, we locals also get scammed or ripped off on the street here sooo be careful still.
WOWWW 😮😮😮 you already here, BKK. I.love. to say FungBro clips shape my accent in the last few yrs. Wud be awsome if I could see.you once during. you're in BKK
You don’t have illegal immigrants running around robbing stores and selling it on the street. Thailand won’t give free money away. Both cities not ideal if you are trying to retire.
The one thing is never ever similar New york or any states, the true is Thai minimum wage so unfair for poppulations 's income is not balanced for cost of living in Thailand.
No, we do sleep in BKK past 11pm in the center area and malls. But the small night clubs and party bars can be opened till 4am here now back to normal.
Are you Local Bangkok people?? 24Hr life means here in Bangkok you could go out at night and still could find a 24Hr Cafe like Starbucks and also a lot 24hr Local Cafe for you to work at anytime and also there are 24hr Gyms in Bangkok too if you do not know and a lot places there are still a lot of people on the streets and of course those 24hr 7-11s that are everywhere in the city for you to find something to eat at anytime you want to and also there are even a wet market that open after Midnight for the restaurants and street vendors to buy and most of them people used to go shopping at around 2-3am in the morning such as Bangkapi Market at Ladprao Rd. Also there are many malls that open 24hr just like The Street Ratchada Mall, Ekkamai Mall, Samyan Mithtown, Foodlans and ETC. And also a lot of 24hr internet cafe, And that's why people called Bangkok never sleep and also last week I just watched the foreign youtuber tried to sleep all night like 24hr at the internat Cafe in Bangkok. That's why I ask you are you a local Bangkok? Or you probably never used the night life here in Bangkok Because you just gave tourists the wrong data while there are countless of choices here in Bangkok and a lot of foreign youtubers also did tons of contents about it. And If you lived in the normal city that not 24hr after 8pm all the people would go to sleep bro and you could find nothing to eat also those countries do not have a lot of Vending Machines at nearly every condo or building just like in Bangkok so you have nothing to do at night time my friendamd yes do not have even 7-11 at night.
@@onalonan Honey, you have google these days to check what you say is crap. No mall open passed 11pm at best including Ekkamai Mall. If you are talking about the tourist trap zone and party zone like Khaosan road? Sure, but they are clutter in a small place to not disturb the locals. No Starbuck in Bangkok opens 24/7 here honey, it's only 7-11. BTS and Subway in BKK SLEEP AFTER MIDNIGHT! Dear boy, alot of NYC infrastructures do not close after midnight and Thailand has no need to normalize this for our locals. It's only for tourist traps like you people to make you feel at home especially the sleazy shady zone like red light district cowboy street for example. xD
@tuck295q ok bro, I do not know what you are talking about BUT if you are a real Thai living in Bangkok you should know that nowadays there are around 20-30 branches of Starbuck that open 24HR!!!! Now I'm at Praram 9 RD and there are already 3 branches of Starbucks around this area that open 24HR!!! Please, check the data about your country before give the data to the tourists my friend. I already told you and the tourists about the fact because the some tourists probably want the real data but I do not understand why do you have to fight back with the very wrong information? it's not cool bro. For me I'm not even a fan of Starbuck but this is just the true data, OK? And I believed that most Bangkok Thai known that there are a lot of Starbucks that open 24HRs.✔

Bangkok and New York aren’t the same 😂😂😂. I’ve worked in New York, and I’ve been in Bangkok 8 years now bruh. Not even close. People just go to Bangkok for the girls. That’s it. It ain’t the temples or beaches or the city, it’s for the women who give you +3-5 points just for being non-Thai 😂😂
I'll throw something in there that is totally unrelated to this video. I recently went to Thailand this past summer, and I was nowhere near the big cities. I explored many smaller towns and mountainous regions, and here's something that I noticed. I saw a lot of Chinese and/or Taiwanese flying into Thailand when landing in Bangkok. I was frequently stopped by either the Thai National Guard or the Thai Army when driving throughout Thailand. From my ears on the ground, I've heard that I look too Chinese and/or Taiwanese, so they always had to check me and gave me some problems, because the Thai Government has been cracking down on a huge influx of illegal drugs like fentanyl as well from China or Taiwan from what they've encountered since Covid lockdown years. Wondering what others think about this. Or maybe it's just me, and I look like a drug addict or drug cartel or something.
Chiang Mai is good if you enjoy mountains. Southern provinces for sure if you're a beach person - they're all beautiful, just make sure you check the seasons.
Chiang Mai if you like mountains. If you like the beach, Pattaya or Hua Hin. Pattaya is famous for its red light district but there are areas like Jomtien where you can get away from that. It's ~2H away from BKK so it's easy to travel there, lots of buses. Hua Hin (beach town) is a bit farther & more relaxed. There's also a number of retired expats. If you like the island life, there are several islands to choose from (Phuket, Koh Samui, etc).
I just got back from a Thailand trip, I didn't go to BKK though. I loved Chiang Mai, it's still pretty big imo, but not too bad. Rush hour traffic gets pretty bad though, it'll probably take you 30+ minutes to get anywhere during that time. Traffic there is worse than where I live in the States. I also went to Chiang Rai. It's smaller & more laidback, but you'll probably run out of stuff to do fast if you stay there long though.
@@lazzi2462 hey there. You're right about Chiang Rai. I think it's more rural than CM and it's good for locals & retired ppl (who want quieter lives). If one wants more city action & younger ppl (digital nomads) then CM is better. It's similar to Pattaya vs Hua Hin. Both are beach towns. Pattaya is more citified while Hua Hin is more rural.

There is that^ but TH is also famous for tourism and nowadays, digital nomads. Another well-known place for digital nomads is Bali, Indonesia (dubbed as "Silicon Bali") but they have very different vibes - relaxed island life vs capital city/ metropolis (BKK). Chiang Mai in the north of TH is also popular to foreigners (if one likes mountains).
There are that kind of places in every city in the world. If you don’t like that thing, don’t go. Bangkok has lots more for you to visit. Different ppl have their own taste, can’t blame them for that.
I am trying to decide Manila or BKK. Both has pros and cons, but I like the fact that you can get by in Manila with Eng, but in Bkk, you need to know Thai. This is a big problem. How you gonna buy an apt in BKK?
Hi. I don't think he's trying to buy an apt/ condo in BKK. He's mentioned that he's signed a 6-month lease, so he's there for that time (or so). Since he's still of working age, he must also think of the tax implications. If he stays in a country for ~183 days or so, he becomes a tax resident. There's an issue now in TH on whether they will tax foreign income or not. I've seen it in some expat vlogs. PH doesn't tax foreign income (for now) & has a tax treaty with the US. In both countries, foreigners can't own land but can buy condos. Re: Manila, a lot of foreigners (esp older ones/ retired) prefer Cebu or Dumaguete over Manila. I guess it depends on your age &/or what you're looking for. Manila is more hectic. It's the capital; very busy & over populated. There are pockets of popular areas for expats, like BGC or Makati. Cebu & Dumaguete are in smaller islands and are more relaxed. Transport is easier & better in BKK.

Lower cost of living but there may be more corruption, poverty, less infrastructure, etc. Btw, if you're considering TH 🇹🇭 but don't like BKK coz it's hectic, you can check out Chiang Mai (for mountains) or Pattaya (for beach). There are also lots of expats in Pattaya, loads of condos & hotels too. Btw, I've visited BKK (several times) , Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Manila (many times) so I speak from experience. If you plan to be based somewhere but want to travel to neighboring countries, BKK or TH is better situated.
What does that have to do with anything? The richest places aren't necessarily the best. Otherwise NYC wouldn't have only half the amount of international visitors as Bangkok. People want to go to the fun, interesting and lively cities, not the richest places on earth. Otherwise Liechtenstein and Qatar would be flooded with tourists but they get barely any.
Yes, I agree. Since they deal with Asian/ Asian American issues, I think they should also tackle the bad sides of history, as well as the good. He could go to Cambodia, visit Siem Reap & Phnom Penh. He can take flights or go on a bus - easy enough to do so.
One word that optimizes the biggest difference: FASHION! NYC is the fashion capital of not just the U.S., but the entire WORLD. Bangkok has some isolated designers who are the bomb, and its fashion scene is growing, but it's more localized and is focused on streetwear and Thai styles. NYC touches all levels of fashion, from hip hop to couture and everything in between, and it touches the west to the east (Tokyo). There's definitely opportunity there, but it's not there yet, probably cuz its too dang hot and BKK doesn't have all 4 seasons. Love both cities to death, but NYCs fashion scene, muah!!! 😘😘😘

Live in BKK. Visited NYC since 90s and recently 2023.
NYC was better than BKK in 90s.
In 23, BKK is far far better than NYC. Not even close.
Ahhh!….Left the Big Apple for the Big Mango!! Welcome to Thailand!! 🔥🔥🔥
So glad to see you move to my city. I am an entrepreneur and owner of a music school in Bangkok and have been following your channel for over 5 years. We are a small business trying to use AI to teach music. So glad you moved here.
The fresh haircut is on point! 😉
@@TheThaiStreetWoah, so Chiang Mai could possibly be livable year round if they keep boycotting?
@@Syrxen Not an easy thing to do, since it’s related to one country that is still focusing on fighting a civil war.
Bangkok is like NYC, except the Smash-n-Grab robbery, and the homeless.
and income
In Thailand you have more than 200,000+ Restaurants from all over the world not included countless of street vendors waiting for you to try✔🙏💕
You point out that people defecate on the subways in New York and you still juxtapose NYC to Bangkok.😂 This is so disrespectful!
New York is fun for visiting but to live there NO way!!! Bangkok on the other hand is fun to visit and enjoyable for living. Also in Bangkok you don't need to make in the 6 figures and break the bank like New York to enjoy life and hang out with your friends on the weekend.
Born in Bangkok and currently live in Boston also travel to NYC every years and yeah I feel like Bangkok is very similar to NYC in terms of diversity
Aren't the majority thai people in bkk
I'm Thai but don't insult NYC like that. They're not comparable. BKK is still light years behind NYC. 😑
You are exactly right. Manhattan doesn't have electric and communicative wires like on Wireless Road in BKK, ironically.

It blows NYC eh? lol
Southeast Asia is really catching up to places in China and south Korea especially with all these new super apps like Grab. Of course WeChat is still the king of apps. You get live a king 🤴 in a lower budget. I am looking to retire once my daughter finishes college.
compared to NY, BKK just hits home every note man. accessibility, food, cultural diversity, safety, housing, friendliness of the locals.
You forget one thing about how similar Bangkok and NYC is neighbor migrants ramp up in the city working for blue collar jobs everywhere
More than 10+ millions of them and most of them came to work here in Bangkok illegal.
You are not comparing wages of USA to Thailand, do you?
Wow..interesting meaning expats will have trouble
Never get bored watching your videos. Excellent observations👍
I’m so glad you’re loving Bangkok! Enjoy!!!!😘😘😘
Have not been NYC for a long time. I was there in 1998 and it was one of the greatest experiences in my life. So sad to learn that it is in a downfall period now
Great comments and comparison. Enjoy them a lot. Thks,
I will definitely not argue with you on one thing.
Omg! Lisa vs Taylor
That looks like The Commons in Thonglor. I’m from NYC and plan to move to BKK in the next year or two. Can’t wait!
Chaotic is what both cities share
Hi I’m Thai from Bangkok I love you this comments Bangkok and New York Twins chaotic city 😅🤣😂
Absolutely correct 😁
Been to BKK many times, I always describe it to those that haven't been as the NYC of Sth East Asia. BKK vies with Seoul as my favourite city in Asia.
wrong on 2. Bangkok closes down, buses and trains don't run at night
Fyi "Tuk tuk" is Thai word derived from the sound the engine make. Now people call it tuk tuk all over the world.
LMAO the analogies in this are so obscure, detailed and funny.
There is also a large Burmese community. Should try out some real Burmese food in BKK. There are many Burmese people there now because of the civil unrest in Myanmar (Burma)
I didn’t know they have tuktuk in New York. Tuktuk was and still the go to commute in Thailand since i was very young. Almost 40+ years
ตอนนี้ก็ยังมีครับพี่แต่ไม่ได้ใช้บริการเพราะ...แพง (เทียบกับระยะทาง)
No, they are not. Aliens never invaded Bangkok. The Avengers never frequently fought alien invaders in the comic books and movies in Bangkok. The title of "Battle of Bangkok" is frequently reserved for a type of genre in unsuitable for children.
I'm agree. Both feel like home to me.
You just moved to Thailand and already assume you know about bkk. 5-6 videos within 3-4 weeks. บลา บลา บลา เก่งงงงง
Only Bangkok is much better and safer
You commenting is ok ... but would really like to see vlogs where you take your audience with you during the times you are actually experiencing the city, community, culture etc. IMO, show us you actually living the life in another country.
Both cities hold so many homeless people.😂 Thai hobo are less violent, from my pov. But they might beg for money. Don't give them money. The money will just goes to drug and alcohol.
They don't have to buy food, people always give them meals and water. Sometimes, Thai people are just too nice.
There is the problem of illegal immigrants coming to beg around. It‘s against the law. Don’t give them money.
Most beggars come from countries around Thailand. Don’t give money to them.
There are no-go areas in Bangkok. Crime ridden labyrinths, rundown shop houses. You've just never seen them.
And you haven't been through Bangkok scorching hot summer starting from mid-Feb.
Bangkok has so much to offer, from vibrant street food to its dynamic energy-just like NYC! Why not stay longer and fully experience its charm?
If Thailand goes forward with the Land Bridge project, then Thailand will compete with Singapore easily.
I made this comparison many times on Threads and got roasted to death. But they are extremely alike
I realized that it is much more similar to Brickell Miami than to NYC.

You don’t have illegal immigrants running around robbing stores and selling it on the street. Thailand won’t give free money away. Both cities not ideal if you are trying to retire.
Bangkok has many gangs from neighboring countries (begging, pick pocketing)
If you compare the GDP, Bangkok is a mouse and NYC is an elephant.

And I saw all of your comments on UA-cam are all negative especially contents about Thailand.
Now I'm not really sure you are the real Thai or Not after all negative comments also very wrong information.
Bottomline.... Bangkok wins hands down 🙇🙇♀😎🙏
Bangkok and New York aren’t the same 😂😂😂.
As a Thai I never heard of this
What city do you suggest in Thailand if you don’t care for the big city life
Safe and good for solo travellers
Chiangmai is good
Chiang Mai is good if you enjoy mountains.

Thanks for the info before this I just thought it's a place for foreigners to get easy access to women and ladyboys.

Nope ...
I am trying to decide Manila or BKK. Both has pros and cons, but I like the fact that you can get by in Manila with Eng, but in Bkk, you need to know Thai. This is a big problem. How you gonna buy an apt in BKK?
BKK by far, Manila is far more dangerous and there’s a reason why they have armed checkpoints throughout Makarti
@@dw7647 Yes. I like Thai food, Thai culture and everything else about BKK better than MNL. But, I cannot understand contracts, I cannot communicate with the barber. This is important too. Thai girls are prettier as well.

@@nc1975cops shake down people in PH 🇵🇭 too, but I think they focus more on the whites. If you're Asian & can pass for a local, you can stay more under the radar.
Yes, those are the cons of living in the "global South" (I don't like using 1st vs 3rd world). Lower cost of living but there may be more corruption, poverty, less infrastructure, etc.
Btw, if you're considering TH 🇹🇭 but don't like BKK coz it's hectic, you can check out Chiang Mai (for mountains) or Pattaya (for beach). Pattaya is infamous for the red light district but if you don't want that, then there are areas where you can avoid it (like Jomtien).
NYC just has more than 3 times the GDP of the whole of Thailand
Yes and has more than 3 times of Crime and Homeless and Drugs 🤣😂
NYC's GDP is 51 times bigger than your whole country, Latvia.
NYC also has more GDP than 95% of the world’s countries. NYC has more GDP than Tokyo, Seoul, Paris, Dubai, London as well.
More GDP also mean more expensive cost of living which is the main reason why some people from the west move to Asia.
I want to see the fungs bros go to S21 museum in Cambodia and do a review on it . Please remind them to go there
Yes, I agree.
BKK is the bomb.
Hey, you failed to mention Singapore! Not nice!

The nightlife and energy is nowhere near NYC and BKK. Singapore is nice but it is more sterile and controlled, which some people may prefer.
