People Watching in Lower Manhattan

- I went to visit an old friend and help out with the Sandy relief at Coney Island this November. On my way to the airport, I decided to set up the tripod and take some footage of the people that live and work here to remember the trip. No music, no soundtrack, just the sounds of the city breathing. Watch in HD.
I was so happy when he finally got the taxi
Yessss he finally got a cab haha
perfect ending.
lol
yes hahahahahhhahaaaah lolsss i was also see him only hehehe...finally he got a cab ,i thought he was a contract traffic man in civil dress lolsss
I think he was standing in the wrong spot
***SPOILER ALERT***
lol i knew i shouldn't have looked down at the comments you totally spoiled it for me XD
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The kids fighting
The lady's embarrassment after tripping
The guy trying desperately to get a cab.
So good!!!
This videos really good for if you need to people sketch but your not out and about.
Carolina Alberto I'd love to see some of them if you ever put any online!
i came here for the same reason!
Perfect for quarantine ~
same
exactly what im doing haha
this never gets old bro it's 2021 and this is still the best people watching video i can find of nyc
How does everyone act so consistently normal? So effortlessly. Whenever I'm out in public I feel like I'm constantly "acting" normal in public and fail at it miserably. Constantly anxious and nervous people pick up on it so easily.
you probably weren't socialized much as a youth besides school or family which are insufficient. I suspect so cause i was the same but got over it after calming my nerves.
The time it took for him to get a taxi, he may as well have walked there! haha. Wow, this video is great. This is what I love to do on holiday. Go see daily life. Watch people. See the fashions. See the hubbub. Hear the sounds. Be in the middle of the life. And I can do all that, just sitting on my office chair at home now. Brilliant! But it's not going to stop me travelling. The sound and stillness of the camera you've got there is great. Thanks for having the nerve to stand out in the middle of it, and film it, for the satisfaction of the likes of me.
I used a Canon Rebel T2i on a tripod to capture the footage, I think people just assumed I wasn't filming them because instead of looking at the camera or acting like I was filming, I would play with my phone, look the other way, look bored and basically pretend I wasn't filming when I really was. People expect a blinking red light to signal recording and I disabled it on my camera.
NYC is the best place to work as a cab driver because you always have clients. All the cab drivers were passing that poor guy because they were having already clients.
This relaxes me
Thanks for the kind words! Comments like this makes me want to keep making videos :)
Watching this high is the beat thing ever guys, just letting you know
That was great! Glad that the poor guy finally got a cab! That sprinkled a bit of comedy through the video. Very well done video!
I know it is an old video but I loved it just the same
thanks for sharing !!
Absolutely loved that! You have a fabulous camera. Thank you so much for filming & sharing that. I so hope to get to NYC one day, but in the meantime, I can watch all this stuff & it gives such a good insight into how it really is there. So glad that dude finally got a taxi - I would have worried all night about that! LOL
My!, you're easily flattered...that's refreshing.
Loved it! Thanks for taking the time...loved it!
I love this. Thank you for uploading AND taking the time to film it. And raw as well :)
you are welcome!
I enjoyed this, especially since I recently returned from there on a two-day tour, which wasn't long enough in hindsight. I was ready to leave after the 2nd day, but since I've been home, I realized there was a lot I didn't see or photograph. I'm considering returning, mainly to photograph some different sights. I went there mainly to see the broadway musical, Cats. Of course, I added some tours while there. I like the way you ended it by showing the guy finally getting a cab. Nice video.
what a good production!Thanks alot.
This makes me sad, very sad indeed. So so many people, yet each one passes another never knowing who they are or speaking to them. Alone on an island of people. How lonely that must feel, sometimes profoundly.
I don't know about you but I would prefer it this way unless i was meeting someone interesting. I am an introvert though.
As an introvert I like it this way haha it's more than enough to be in a city with so many people, I would have anxiety having to socialize with everyone. lol
stargate4698 Exactly how I was thinking about this.
This is such a lonely world if you think about it.
We all have a long way to go until all of us Humans finally understand that we are all ONE race, How this universe always destined us to be.
There is a bigger picture that we not know about in this Universe, yet we humans act like strangers to each other. It's really weird to think about it.
+stargate4698 like stockholm
+stargate4698 You don't need to know 8 million different people to be happy, you know.
Amazing thing you are doing! It’s very very interesting. I believe it’s imperative to document human at our purest state of mind. It’s when we most vulnerable.
You start to see the soul in us.
Great video! You really need to produce more like this . . . please.
Went to school down town in the 60ies greatest city !!
I chose this video for a writing assignment, and I am glad I did. It's fun! Makes me want to visit New York in the way I didn't get the chance the only other time I visited. Kudos!
Wow! nice vid! Just the everyday life of a city! Congrats for the vid!
Perseverance pays off for that gentleman and hailing a cab. Was beginning to lose faith in the NYC cab company there. And when I visit NYC, you've given the idea of doing some people watching myself, maybe in 10min increments and a collage for an hour or so therein. :)
Using this for a creative writing project so that I don't actually have to go anywhere... thanks for this!!
good video. u captured a lot of up close people watching
I was reading Erving Goffman, and wanted to see how people act in public in New York. Very similar as to how they act here in São Paulo, Brazil, were i work and live. Thank´s for the video!
Oh he did get a cab !!
My dog loves this.
Please do a new "Manhattan People Watching" 2016 ..maybe the same time of the year :-) Thank you for a great video!!
You have quite a nice people watching clip here :) lots of things going on and lots of different people
Cool video 😊 love stuff like this

Thanks a bunch! trying to find videos of observing people because I'm trying to learn better animations and anatomy. =)
OH YES - LOVED THIS
Good luck with the move!! I too am moving to the east coast from Illinois, on Friday!! (8/30) and I am nervous too. Mostly excited though.
This is so good like I always wanted to visit the US of a
Love it! And Is He's still trying to hail that cab. But the Ladies (thank you), Bob Ross's long lost cousin, Skateboard Man, Dont' ever get in the way of a delivery bike, i use to drive one with the big box on it with 3 wheels! Did I mention the Ladies, the subway shots, but only Manhattanites call it the subway, in BKLYN we call it the train, ol timers say the El. The Sounds, the boss yelling at the workers, nothing like running into a good street band, and next time i'm in the CiTy, i gotta buy one of them Sandy shirts, and tasty gyro, a Gyro, not, a yro, or a yoro, a GYro. hot dogcarts sure have become high tech. And nice shot of the Brooklyn Bridge. and did i bring up the Ladies? The train sways, and the people move on the street in a rhythm you have to experience. By the way HEY TAXXIIEEE!!!
Good video. Cheers.
Nice video. Well done. Please make some more like this in the same style.
Its about time he got a taxi lol love the vid. I'm moving to ny ina week so scared but excited
TXM3000 how's it been? Any cool stories?
I Love New York!! I vist once a year for 2 weeks ! The best city in the world!!! Fun Fun Fun!!! And a lot of nice people not all are mean.
very well done. It takes a special kind of person to live in NYC. It`s too big and too many people for me. But i guess it`s what you are used to.
That's my sentiment as well. I recently returned from there - spent two days there. I was glad to leave. I definitely couldn't live there. I'm used to my slower pace of New Orleans. People in NY are always rushing, so it seemed, and this video revealed just that. Plus, they seem a bit unhappy and cold natured. New Orleans is quite different.
pro tip. If the light on top of the cab that says taxi is not lit then the cab is occupied or going to pick someone up. If it is lit then it is available to pick you up.
Damn dude was literally waiting for the cab for long 🥲🤣
SPOILER ALERT: THE MAN GETS A CAB AT THE END :D
lol It just shows all the comments were relieved when he finally got one. I do hope all the other cabs had clients already in them or Boo! to the driver.
Amazing. Do you have any more like this?
My pleasure, you deserve compliments
cool!
I love people watching, although I enjoy sticking to only a few people and watching them specifically. It’s nice to know their schedules and you get to watch them just hang out I’m glad there’s a small community of watchers like us
Yeah, so, this is exactly what I need right now. #Quarantine
dude i think im gonna use this for figure drawing
New York fever brought me here. I went to NYC when I was 11 which was 4 years ago and am dying to get back. It was so different there me being from california when I saw a liquor store I was happy because I wanted some Wise Onion and Garlic chips but all they had was wine and beer. Liquor stores in CA have chips sodas and wine and beer. I hope I get to live there when I'm older.
+OG Bobby Johnson Really? Seems like a pressure cooker to me. Lots of sound and fury signifying profits and inequality. Idk. New York freaks me out.
yeah everyone in the video (if u pay attention to their facial expressions) just looked tired/worn out/anxious. If that's the price of living in NYC-sacrificing peace of mind for fleeting thrills and ego gratification- then count me out. But then it's like if i live somewhere quiet, then i get FOMO. FML lol
Most lively downtown.
girl on hollister shirt...soo cute!
why thank you :)
HE FINALLY GOT A TAXI.
Thanks, now I don't need to visit NYC ;P
I will try, thanks, next city might be boston, then chicago
Can I use this footage in a video, it will not be monetized and you will be credited in the description and end of video, I love your work; please let me know if you see this i know it’s been years
Need me a camera with this good quality
14:31 REJECTED
How do you film these without people noticing the camera? Do you use something like a GoPro, but then hidden?
How did you get all those people to your set? Buses?
So cool. Are you recording at 24fps? It looks nice and filmic.
that poor fat guy just couldn't get a cab, i was rooting for him i swear!
+TwistedGalaxy dont wanna sound rude but maybe he should walk more if u know what i mean
TwistedGalaxy lmao yeah
is it weird i watched this whole video?
What! Lol I wanted to see that guy get his cab.
Just realised he does so happy!
Don't live in a city this is interesting content for some reason
5:42 - Jared Kushner.
is the nervous/anxious man on 10:28 you? just to know though..
14:18 HAHAHHAHAHAHA I'm so sorry but it's too funny
and 14:33 teenager be checkin the girl who tripped head to toe lol
+wimbletone oh i tripped on cam but i have my man to make me feel safe let me kiss him so i can feel powerful like he is. People watching will know i got my man to empower me.
+Peter Byron He doesn't seem powerful to me, ignoring her like that.
she's lucky, she could injure her ankle. and that's because of the annoying camera.
Whats golden is 14:30, she goes into kiss him on the cheek and he darts his head back to avoid it.
Hi, Im Sana and im currently searching for video materials for my Masters Research project and this video would be a great video, please could you let me know if that would possible?. I can explain the study in more detail before you agree, if you would like. Thankyou, I hope to hear back from your soon.
Omg.. 5.52 😊😊
14:19 lady tripped snd almost fell causally
can someone please explain why people watching is so enjoyable? Could you also explain why some of you like to take photo's or videos? Do you ever wonder if you are percieved as creepy? Thanks
You didn't leave the tripod all alone did you? surprised nobody stole it if that's the case
Never, I was always standing near it
Ah, yes...hailing-a-cab. I couldn't be certain if that was IT...or if he was welcoming auto in-wrapped visitors to the neighborhood.
I see that you 'ave not only a fancy (& good eye) for apexes...but also the nuances and particularities of the human-animal. (A Renaissance Man, what?)
too fast between scenes, still interesting thou
The story of the fat beast who finally got a cab. That chick with the red hair on the right when ur on the subway tho umph stone cold fox!
10:40
All those taxis and not one stopped for the fat guy. No wonder UberX got so popular.
I'm a sadist aka people Watcher it's cool. Fun
